Chapter 638 : Skilled Ling Ning
“What were you two talking about in there?”
As Ling Ning and Su Ya stepped out of the room, Su Ya’s mother couldn’t help but ask curiously.
“Nothing much. Xiao Ya was just complaining that I came all this way without giving her a proper heads-up~” Ling Ning replied with a polite smile.
At her mother’s question, Ling Ye furrowed her brows slightly. For some reason, her mother’s speech seemed a bit off, though she wondered if it was just her imagination.
Trailing behind Ling Ning, Su Ya still had a faint blush lingering on her cheeks, though her expression had calmed. She shot a quick glance at Ling Ning before quietly sitting down on the sofa.
Ling Ning paid no attention to Su Ya’s demeanor and smiled faintly to herself. Thinking about Su Ya’s earlier reactions in the room, Ling Ning couldn’t help but feel her visit had been worthwhile.
The metallic taste of blood still lingered faintly in her mouth, and Ling Ning chuckled bitterly. Su Ya hadn’t held back at all when she bit her tongue. Though she hadn’t bitten too hard, it had still drawn blood.
Noticing Ling Ning’s expression, Su Ya threw her a “serves you right” look. After all, Ling Ning had kissed her again while she was off guard—and even tried to slip her tongue! If her parents had caught them, it would’ve been a disaster.
At that moment, Su Ya’s mother glanced at the clock before standing up. “It’s almost noon. Ling Ning, why don’t you stay for lunch? Auntie will cook up something special.”
“Thank you, Auntie. Let me help, too~”
Su Ya’s mother looked at Ling Ning skeptically. No matter how she saw it, Ling Ning didn’t seem like someone who could cook.
“Mom, just let Ling Ning help. She’s good at cooking. Besides, it wouldn’t feel right for her to eat without contributing~”
“You really know how to talk, don’t you?” Su Ya’s mother scolded lightly, playfully tapping her daughter on the head.
Su Ya pouted slightly, but seeing her mother’s gentle expression, she chose to obediently stay quiet. After all, her head was more important. What if it got knocked silly?
Ling Ning smiled subtly. Su Ya was just as she remembered from her past life—still so afraid of her mother.
“Auntie, it’s fine. Xiao Ya and I always joke around like this at school~”
“I see. Well then, I’ll leave it to you.”
With that, the two headed into the kitchen.
Initially, Su Ya’s mother had her doubts, but upon seeing Ling Ning’s practiced movements, she felt reassured. Handling ingredients with such ease was not something an inexperienced person could manage.
“Don’t you live on campus, Ling Ning?”
“No, I live fairly close to the school, so I go home. Besides, I need to cook for my little… sister. That’s why I don’t stay on campus~” Ling Ning explained, catching herself mid-sentence.
“What about your parents?”
“My parents passed away in a car accident when I was little. Now, it’s just me and my sister.”
Hearing this, Su Ya’s mother fell silent. Judging by Ling Ning’s sister’s age, her parents must have passed when Ling Ning was still very young. Imagining a child raising her younger sister alone tugged at her heartstrings.
Sensing the somber mood, Ling Ning quickly added, “That was a long time ago. Things are pretty good for us now~”
“I see. If you ever need help, don’t hesitate to let me know.”
“Thank you, Auntie.”
Engrossed in her conversation with Su Ya’s mother, Ling Ning didn’t notice Su Ya peeking in from the kitchen doorway. Su Ya had thought Ling Ning might say something strange, but to her surprise, they were just having a normal conversation.
Still, Ling Ning was truly remarkable. In just half a day, she had won over her mother completely. Even her father seemed to approve of Ling Ning, judging by his gaze.
Why was Ling Ning so skilled at this? It was as if she were completely at home.
Noticing Su Ya at the door, Ling Ning turned slightly and shot her a knowing smile before returning to her tasks.
The reason Ling Ning could win over Su Ya’s parents so effortlessly was thanks to her memories from her past life. While she wasn’t sure if things would play out the same way, she had devised a plan based on her prior knowledge—and it seemed to be working perfectly.
With Ling Ning’s help, lunch was ready in no time.
The delicious aroma wafting through the air made Su Ya’s mouth water. With her mother’s signature dishes and Ling Ning’s cooking, it was bound to be a feast.
Just as Su Ya was debating whether to sneak a piece of braised pork, she suddenly realized Ling Ning was standing beside her, smiling mischievously.
“I-I wasn’t going to sneak a bite!”
“Oh? So you were planning to sneak a bite? I didn’t say anything; you just admitted it yourself~”
Ling Ning’s teasing left Su Ya speechless. Why did she always feel so flustered around her?
“Alright, go wash your hands. It’s time to eat. Ye Ye, you go too~”
“Okay~”
After one last longing glance at the food on the table, Ling Ye followed Su Ya to the bathroom to wash her hands.
As the last dish was brought out, Su Ya’s mother smiled warmly at Ling Ning. “I didn’t expect you to be such a great cook, Ling Ning. And it’s funny—we seem to share a lot of the same habits in the kitchen.”
“Oh, not at all. I just know how to make simple dishes. As for the habits, maybe it’s fate that we’re so similar~”
Ling Ning twirled a strand of her hair bashfully. After all, much of her cooking skill had been learned from Su Ya’s mother in her past life. It wasn’t surprising their styles matched.
“My, my, with someone as capable as Ling Ning, I wonder who will be lucky enough to marry her someday~” Su Ya’s mother joked.
“Auntie, you’re teasing me! I’m still young; I’m not thinking about that yet~”
“Haha, time flies, Ling Ning. Make sure to cherish those around you~”
“I will~”
