Chapter 599 : How Could a Facial Cleanser Be Uncomfortable
“Ring ring ring~”
The shrill sound of the alarm jolted Ling Ning awake. Last night, she and Xia You had stayed up far too late playing PUBG, so she hadn’t gone to bed until the wee hours.
Time flew by, and today was the day of her clingy, obsessive childhood friend’s concert. However, Ling Ning felt no nervousness at all—it was still early morning, and the concert wasn’t until the evening. There was no point in heading out so early.
As she pondered her schedule for the day, Ling Ning suddenly felt some movement in her arms. Her daughter’s small head peeked out from under the blanket, and with drowsy eyes, she asked, “Mom, are you getting up?”
“Go ahead and sleep some more. But if Ye Ye wants to get up, I won’t stop you,” Ling Ning replied with a smile.
“Okay~”
Ye Ye yawned and buried her face in her mother’s chest, snuggling in for more sleep.
Ling Ning sighed in resignation. Why wouldn’t her daughter use a pillow? Did it really feel better to lie on her chest? And wasn’t it uncomfortable to stay under the blanket like that?
Glancing at the time, Ling Ning placed her phone back on the nightstand and closed her eyes, planning to doze off a bit more like her daughter.
Just as she was drifting off, her phone rang again—this time, it wasn’t the alarm but an actual call.
With a sigh, she picked it up and saw that it was Li Qian calling. Why was Li Qian calling so early?
“Hello? Ling Ning?”
“Yes, it’s me. What’s up, Xiao Qian Qian? Why are you calling so early? Yawn~”
There was a moment of silence on the other end before Li Qian exclaimed, “Don’t tell me you’re still in bed!”
“What’s wrong with that?”
“Today is Bai Yiyue’s concert! How can you still be lying in bed at a time like this? Aren’t you even a little excited?”
Ling Ning sighed and said in a resigned tone, “It’s still morning, Xiao Qian Qian. The concert is in the evening. Getting excited now won’t do any good.”
Frankly, given her relationship with Bai Yiyue, she could have the singer perform a private concert in her own home anytime. There was nothing thrilling about attending the public event.
“Well, that may be true, but even if the concert isn’t until later, we could at least visit the campus now. Who knows? We might bump into Bai Yiyue,” Li Qian said excitedly.
“Impossible. She’s probably still resting and conserving energy for the performance.”
Li Qian went quiet, suddenly remembering that Bai Yiyue and Ling Ning were good friends. Even her concert tickets had been personally procured by Ling Ning.
“Even if we don’t go to campus, we could go shopping or something,” Li Qian suggested.
“Just admit it—you woke up early out of excitement and want someone to keep you company~”
“Th-that’s not true!”
Ling Ning sighed, already knowing she had hit the mark. “So, where are you now?”
“Outside your building…”
“I knew it. Alright, come on up. I’ll get up now,” Ling Ning said with another sigh. Then she added, “Oh, and if it’s convenient, could you bring breakfast? Thanks.”
Before Li Qian could respond, Ling Ning hung up. She truly wasn’t in the mood to get up this early on her day off.
The call had disturbed Ye Ye’s sleep. Peeking her head out groggily, she asked, “Mom, is someone coming over?”
“Pretty much.”
“Are you getting up then?”
“When the doorbell rings,” Ling Ning replied lazily.
The cold weather made it hard to leave the cozy warmth of her bed, but the thought of the heated kotatsu in the living room made it slightly more bearable.
Eventually, the doorbell rang, pulling Ling Ning fully out of her half-asleep state. She shuffled out of bed, threw on a jacket, and went to the door. As expected, it was Li Qian, and she was holding breakfast.
“Good morning, Xiao Qian Qian~”
“I told you not to call me that! It’s embarrassing if someone hears,” Li Qian complained as she followed Ling Ning inside.
“You could call me Xiao Ling Ning in return. I wouldn’t mind at all~” Ling Ning said with a mischievous smile.
Li Qian blushed slightly at the suggestion and muttered, “Who would call you that?”
“Aw, Xiao Qian Qian is so cold. I almost regret letting you in,” Ling Ning teased, her syrupy tone making Li Qian shudder.
Even Ling Ning couldn’t handle her own sugary voice and quickly changed the subject. “Alright, sit here for a bit. I’ll go wash up.”
“Okay.”
As Li Qian sat down, she couldn’t help but notice that even with her slightly disheveled appearance, Ling Ning exuded a unique charm. If someone photographed her right now, it would surely captivate many admirers.
On her way to the bathroom, Ling Ning paused and asked, “By the way, where’s your sister?”
“Oh, her? I’m not sure,” Li Qian replied with a faint smile. In truth, she had ditched her annoying little sister earlier and was confident she wouldn’t be able to find Ling Ning’s place.
Just then, the doorbell rang again.
