How Could I Possibly Have a Daughter After Reincarnating?

Chapter 598 : Smooch~

“Well then, Xiao Bai, I’ll be heading off.”

“Mm, goodbye.” Bai Yiyue reluctantly waved at Ling Ning. If only Ling Ning could stay another night—how wonderful that would be. Her carefully chosen “victory” lingerie from last night had gone completely to waste. Ling Ning hadn’t reacted at all upon seeing it.

Was the lingerie too plain? It seemed she would have to buy something bolder next time.

After changing her shoes, Ling Ning left with Bai Jie, heading for the underground parking lot. Wu Zi had parked the car there after dropping them off earlier.

Upon reaching the lot, Ling Ning glanced at Bai Jie’s luxurious car, a flicker of envy in her eyes. When would she be able to afford a car like that?

If possible, she’d love a sports car from the “Overwatch” brand—not just sleek but equipped with all kinds of futuristic tech.

As they got into the car, Ling Ning noticed that Bai Jie had been unusually quiet since she came out of the shower. While Bai Jie wasn’t overly talkative, she would usually make some casual remarks.

Just as Ling Ning began to feel puzzled, Bai Jie opened her mouth as if to say something but then sighed and stayed silent.

Ling Ning caught the hesitation and found it strange.

“Sister, is something bothering you? You can tell me, you know.”

“It’s nothing… Just some old memories that came to mind. Don’t worry about it,” Bai Jie replied as she started the car and drove out of the parking lot.

Though Bai Jie didn’t drive often, her skills were solid—at least, that was Ling Ning’s impression as a seasoned commuter.

For some reason, traffic was particularly heavy that night. Bai Jie sighed, staring at the steel gridlock ahead. If she had known, she would’ve taken another route.

Ling Ning checked her phone and said wryly, “Sister, there’s a car accident up ahead. That’s probably why it’s so congested. Once we pass it, it should clear up.”

“A car accident?”

Bai Jie nodded, understanding the unusual delay. This road wasn’t typically congested, even during rush hour.

As they waited, Ling Ning considered pulling out her phone to pass the time but decided it might be better to chat with Bai Jie instead.

“Sister, are you planning to attend Xiao Bai’s concert?”

“Yes, since it’s happening on campus, I’ll be going. By the way, I saw online that some people think Yiyue is holding the concert at S University because someone she likes is here. Is that true?”

Ling Ning’s face froze. She let out a nervous laugh. “Didn’t Xiao Bai tell you? I’m not sure myself…”

“Is that so?”

Bai Jie glanced at Ling Ning. Her mind wandered back to what she had witnessed earlier—Ling Ning and her daughter kissing in the living room. When she had first heard the rumors, she didn’t believe them, but now… they might hold some truth.

Still, the two were quite bold to pull such a stunt while she was showering. What if she had caught them in the act?

Feeling Bai Jie’s gaze, Ling Ning grew uneasy. Had she done something suspicious? But after racking her brain, she decided she hadn’t, so it should be fine.

Just then, traffic began moving again. Whatever caused the delay must have been resolved. Bai Jie focused on driving while Ling Ning’s thoughts spiraled into chaos.

“Ling Ning, we’re here,” Bai Jie’s voice called, pulling her out of her reverie.

“Huh?”

Ling Ning realized they were already parked outside her apartment building.

“Thanks, Sister. Would you like to come up for a bit?”

“No, I just remembered something I need to take care of. You go ahead.”

After watching Bai Jie’s car drive away, Ling Ning turned and entered her apartment. However, upon arriving home, she noticed that neither her daughter, Ye Ye, nor Xia You was in the living room. That piqued her curiosity.

She made her way to Ye Ye’s room and knocked lightly on the door. “Ye Ye, are you in there?”

From inside, she heard a thud followed by Ye Ye’s pained yelp.

“What happened, Ye Ye?!”

Ling Ning instinctively tried the doorknob, only to find it locked. Before she could say anything, the door opened to reveal Ye Ye’s tearful face.

“Mom, you’re back.”

“Yeah. What were you doing in there? Why was the door locked?”

“Nothing much, just watching anime. It’s no big deal,” Ye Ye replied nonchalantly, though she was inwardly flustered. She had been reviewing the last section of a rather “educational” video and got so engrossed that she hadn’t noticed her mom’s return.

In her excitement, she had accidentally stubbed her toe, and the pain was now killing her.

“Watching anime? Do you need to lock the door for that?” Ling Ning tilted her head, suspicious. Still, she decided not to pry further. “Ye Ye, Xiao Bai’s concert is coming up. Are you planning to go?”

“I’d like to, but I already made plans to hang out with friends that day,” Ye Ye said regretfully.

Though Ye Ye disliked how clingy Bai Yiyue was with her mom, she couldn’t deny her fondness for her music.

“Is that so?”

“Mm. Mom, you go ahead without me. Don’t worry about it.”

“Alright. Maybe I’ll ask Xiao Bai to sing for you during a karaoke session later. A private concert just for you.”

“Mom, you’re the best! Smooch~”

“Hey! How many times have I told you? If you’re going to kiss me, don’t slobber!”
