Chapter 414 : As a Straight Man, Wanting My Partner to Be Straight Too—Is That Wrong
“Don’t walk so fast! Wait for me!”
Ling Ning quickened her pace to catch up with Su Ya, whose figure was retreating rapidly ahead of her. After witnessing her boyfriend acting intimately with another girl, it was no wonder Su Ya was upset. Anyone in her position would have reacted similarly.
Looking at Su Ya’s sorrowful expression, Ling Ning opened her mouth to say something comforting but found herself at a loss for words. She did, however, silently curse Xie Zeyu. He had seemed like a decent guy, yet he had revealed his true colors in just a few days of dating Su Ya.
“He wasn’t like this before,” Su Ya said softly.
She and Xie Zeyu had been classmates for three years in high school, always in the same class. She thought she knew him well, which was why she had accepted his confession.
If anyone else had claimed her “almost boyfriend” was cheating, she would have refused to believe it.
But having seen it with her own eyes, the intimate way he acted with that girl was undeniable.
“Maybe… he was just teaching her how to play a game?”
She didn’t want to defend Xie Zeyu, but seeing Su Ya so distraught, she thought offering an alternative explanation might ease her pain.
“…”
Ling Ning reached out, intending to gently touch Su Ya’s cheek, but her hand paused mid-air. She hesitated, then instead placed it on Su Ya’s head, softly stroking her silky hair.
“There’s no point in overthinking it now. How about this: after school, you can confront him and get things straight. I’ll be right there with you the whole time.”
Su Ya bit her lip before stepping forward and burying herself in Ling Ning’s arms. The faint, soothing fragrance coming from Ling Ning calmed her turmoil.
Neither of them noticed Xia You standing in a nearby corner, watching silently. Her fingers dug into her palms, her emotions barely restrained.
After some time, Su Ya finally composed herself. “It’s almost time for class. If we wait any longer, we’ll be late.”
“Alright. And, um… I’m sorry about earlier,” Su Ya apologized softly, her head lowered.
“It’s fine. Let’s go—let’s call Xia You, too.”
“Okay.”

In the classroom, the teacher was enthusiastically explaining the lecture, but Su Ya couldn’t focus. Her mind kept replaying the scene she had witnessed earlier.
She wanted to stay calm and not dwell on it, but no matter how hard she tried, the memory lingered like a stubborn shadow.
Frustrated, she rested her head on the desk. Normally, when she wanted to forget something, she would either sleep or distract herself with other thoughts.
But she wasn’t the least bit sleepy now. Instead, her mind naturally wandered to Ling Ning, the beautiful girl she had only recently met.
Despite the short time they had known each other, Ling Ning gave her a strange sense of familiarity. They had so much in common, and many times, it felt as if Ling Ning could read her mind with just a glance.
Could Ling Ning and I have been lovers in a past life? Su Ya wondered.
But the thought made her laugh. Lovers in a past life? What a ridiculous, adolescent idea—she’d left those kinds of fantasies behind long ago.
Still, one question gnawed at her: why was Ling Ning so kind to her? They had only just met—why go out of her way? Could it be that Ling Ning saw her as a stand-in for her former friend?
The thought weighed heavily on Su Ya’s heart, more so than the sight of Xie Zeyu with that other girl.
Suddenly, she sat upright, frustrated, and ruffled her hair in exasperation before collapsing back onto her desk.
Her erratic behavior startled the boy sitting next to her, who had been silently hoping his proximity to a pretty girl was a sign of good fortune. Now, he wondered if it was an omen of doom.
Why am I overthinking this? Su Ya thought miserably, wishing the afternoon would pass faster.

“Zeyu, shall we grind some ranks after school?”
One of Xie Zeyu’s roommates, who had a delicate face, grinned mischievously. This was the same “trap” roommate who had been dressed in drag earlier, though he had changed back into men’s clothes for class. With his makeup still on, he looked strikingly androgynous.
“Not today. My girlfriend texted me earlier, saying she wanted to meet after school.”
Xie Zeyu replied nonchalantly. He had been so caught up in gaming the past few days that he had nearly forgotten about Su Ya. Initially, he’d planned to ask her out for dinner that evening, but her text came first.
Thinking about it now, he realized he’d been a terrible boyfriend. After today, he resolved to cut back on gaming—after all, his girlfriend was far more important.
“Aw, come on! Don’t ditch us. I was going to dress up again and join you guys later~”
Xie Zeyu rolled his eyes. While he had to admit his roommate looked good in drag, he was a straight man. Big-eyed “moe” girls weren’t his thing—he’d leave those to others.
“Wei Niang, let me tell you something: I’m straight. And no matter how good your cross-dressing is, it can’t compare to my girlfriend’s looks.”
“I’m straight, too! Cross-dressing is just a little hobby of mine,” Wei Niang replied casually. “Besides, as a straight man, is it wrong to want my partner to be straight too?”
Xie Zeyu folded his hands in mock prayer. “You’re too much, you’re too much!”
“Hmph! Who was it, back when I first wore drag, whose eyes almost fell out of their sockets?” Wei Niang shot back with a sly grin.
“Hey! That was a normal reaction! Imagine coming back to the dorm and finding a scantily-clad ‘girl’ in there—it’d shock anyone! Didn’t you see our other roommates’ reactions? They were even more exaggerated than mine!”
Xie Zeyu sighed helplessly. Living with a cross-dressing enthusiast in a dorm was dangerous—let your guard down, and you might find yourself questioning everything.
“Hehe~”
