Chapter 413 : The Consequences of Being Too Obsessed with Rear Guards
“By the way, is your club always this sparsely populated?”
“There are actually two more members, but their attendance is unpredictable. Even when they do show up, all they do is act lovey-dovey in the clubroom. Honestly, now that I think about it, I’d rather they not come at all.”
“Oh~” Ling Ning nodded thoughtfully. A small, quiet club like this suited her just fine. Originally, she hadn’t planned to join any clubs, but since Su Ya wanted to join, it made sense to pick one that wasn’t overly demanding.
As if a thought had suddenly struck her, Lin Xi leaned forward with a look of eager anticipation. “Wait a minute… Are you two thinking of joining this club? If so, I’d be more than happy to have you!”
Hearing Lin Xi’s words, Xia You, who had been quietly watching Magical Girl Xiao Ai nearby, perked up. Her ears figuratively stood on end, keenly attuned to the conversation.
Ling Ning turned to Su Ya. “What do you think, Xiao Ya? This club isn’t crowded or chaotic, and it seems pretty laid-back. Personally, I think it’s a great choice.”
“Well… will you stay with me if I join?” Su Ya asked, her voice unexpectedly soft and shy. The moment the words left her mouth, she regretted them. Why am I acting so coquettish in front of Ling Ning? We’ve only known each other for a few days!
Ling Ning smiled indulgently, as if Su Ya’s words were the most natural thing in the world. “Of course. If you join, I’ll join too.”
Xia You, overhearing this, bit her lip slightly. Something about this didn’t sit right with her—the tone, the smile, the whole interaction...
“Xia You?” Ling Ning called out, noticing her dazed expression. “What’s on your mind?”
“Huh? Oh, nothing. I was just lost in thought. Did you ask me something?” Xia You replied, looking slightly flustered.
“I was asking how you feel about us joining this club?”
“Sure, as long as you’re joining, I’m in.”
“Great, then it’s settled!” Ling Ning turned back to Lin Xi. “Could you give us three application forms?”
“Of course! Let me just find them…”
Lin Xi replied, rummaging through a drawer. It took her quite a while to locate the forms, buried in a corner of the room. Due to the club’s small size, she had nearly forgotten where she had put them.
As they filled out the forms, Ling Ning glanced at Lin Xi and asked, “By the way, why does your club have so few members? With you as the face of the club and Xia You as your ‘legal loli,’ you’d think some decent promotion could bring in a lot of recruits.”
Lin Xi sighed dramatically. “Well, Xia You only joined yesterday, so that doesn’t count. I did try marketing the club as a haven of beautiful girls once. The result? A horde of guys joined, hoping to score dates... It was a disaster. Let’s not talk about it.”
Shrugging, Ling Ning nodded sympathetically.
She understood all too well. In her past life, she had joined a club for the sole purpose of meeting girls. After three years of persistence, she had finally managed to date Su Ya—her girlfriend from that lifetime.
Smiling faintly, she couldn’t help but recall the cries of frustration from the single guys in her old club when she succeeded.
Once they finished filling out the application forms, they explored the clubroom, finding all sorts of gaming consoles and even a box of snacks tucked in the corner.
“What kind of club is this, really?” Ling Ning muttered to herself. But she liked it.
“By the way, Senior Lin Xi, where is the esports club’s activity room?” Su Ya asked hesitantly.
“The esports club? Out the door, turn left, go upstairs, then take the first right. You’ll know it when you see it—it’s full of people and computers. Why do you ask?” Lin Xi replied lazily, curling up on the sofa with her phone.
“Oh… I know someone in the esports club. I just wanted to stop by and see them.”
“I see~”
Ling Ning’s eyes gleamed with a subtle light. Clearly, she needed to step up her game. “Xiao Ya, I’ll go with you.”
“Alright.”
“Ling Ning, you go ahead. I’ll stay here and rest for a bit.”
“Okay, I’ll come back to get you when we’re leaving.”
Ling Ning replied, not noticing anything unusual in Xia You’s demeanor.
Following Lin Xi’s directions, Ling Ning and Su Ya arrived at the esports club’s activity room. Even before entering, they could hear the lively chatter and shouts from inside.
“Quick! Hold the line, we’ve almost got this!”
“Reinhardt, target their Pharah!”
“Lucio, stop standing around—dive in and ult! I’ve nano-boosted you!”

“What’s wrong?” Ling Ning asked when Su Ya suddenly stopped in her tracks.
“It just seems… really crowded in there. Wouldn’t we disturb them if we just walked in?” Su Ya asked nervously. Truthfully, she was too shy to enter.
Ling Ning blinked, then pointed at an uncurtained window nearby. “How about we take a peek through there first? But are you sure your almost-boyfriend is in there?”
Su Ya nodded. “He told me during lunch that he was busy with club activities and couldn’t leave, so…”
Without saying more, they approached the window. Peering inside, they saw a bustling room filled with people and computers—it looked more like an internet café than a clubroom.
After some searching, they finally spotted Xie Zeyu at one of the computers, deeply engrossed in his game. Beside him was a girl, laughing and chatting with him. They seemed to be having a great time.
As they watched, the girl said something that made Xie Zeyu relinquish his seat to her. He then stood behind her, leaning in to guide her hands on the controls—a position that looked unmistakably intimate.
Ling Ning instinctively glanced at Su Ya, only to see her stomp her foot and storm off. Without hesitation, Ling Ning followed.
Meanwhile, inside the clubroom, Xie Zeyu suddenly shivered, feeling an inexplicable sense of dread. However, his attention quickly returned to the “girl” seated before him.
Unbeknownst to everyone else, the “girl” was actually his roommate, who had lost a bet the previous night and was forced to dress in drag.
“I’ve been playing too much Overwatch recently,” Xie Zeyu thought. “I’ve been neglecting Su Ya. I should take her out for dinner tonight and make it up to her.”
