How Could I Possibly Have a Daughter After Reincarnating?

Chapter 405 : Sure, Let’s Leave It to Fate!

“You can head up. I’ll stay here.”

Ling Ning said with a gentle smile, standing under the girls’ dormitory. She had just returned with Su Ya after their movie outing, and the evening sky was beginning to darken. The streetlights lining the road cast a soft glow, creating a serene and elegant aura around Ling Ning.

“Thank you for taking me to the movies today.”

Su Ya said with a sweet smile. Ling Ning’s company had greatly lightened the disappointment she had felt after her boyfriend canceled.

“It’s no problem. I’ve been wanting to watch that movie for a while but hadn’t found anyone to go with. I should be thanking you for accompanying me! Anyway, it’s getting late. I should head home.”

“Alright. Be careful on your way back.”

Ling Ning took only a few steps before suddenly stopping. She turned and called out to Su Ya, who was about to head upstairs.

“Xiao Ya, can I ask you something?”

“Huh? Sure, what is it?”

“You know how there’s a mandatory health exam before college entrance exams? Did your results show any abnormalities?” Ling Ning asked cautiously.

The question came out of nowhere, but it stemmed from a deep-seated worry. She suddenly remembered the true reason Su Ya had broken up with her in their past life. The thought made her anxious.

“Health exam?” Su Ya tilted her head, puzzled by the question. Nonetheless, she answered truthfully. “No, everything came back normal.”

“I see.” Ling Ning nodded thoughtfully. Though reassured by Su Ya’s answer, she silently resolved to take Su Ya for a comprehensive medical checkup at the hospital soon. She wasn’t going to let Su Ya disappear from her life again—no matter what.

“Is something wrong?”

“Nothing, just remembered something. You can go ahead.”

Su Ya nodded and turned to head upstairs. Watching her leave, Ling Ning’s lips curled into a soft smile. She stayed in place until Su Ya entered her dorm room before finally turning to leave. Reuniting with Su Ya in this life felt like a miracle.

When Su Ya entered her dorm, she found her roommates preparing to head out.

“Oh, there you are. We were just about to go grab dinner at the cafeteria. Since everyone’s here, how about we eat out instead?” Lu Muyuan suggested.

“Sounds good.”

“Sure.”

“Okay.”

The group found a restaurant nearby that looked appealing and managed to snag a table before the dinner rush. The place was buzzing with students, many of whom were gathering for meals after registration day.

As they sat down, Su Ya glanced at the silent twins, Li Qian and Li Meng. Gathering her courage, she carefully asked, “Li Qian, Li Meng, are you close with Ling Ning?”

“Yeah, we went to high school together,” Li Qian replied, casting a smug glance at her younger sister. When it came to connections, she had the upper hand.

“Pfft, just a washed-up classmate,” Li Meng retorted. “I’m Ling Ning’s close friend!”

“You—” Li Qian started, but remembering Ling Ning’s earlier lecture, she restrained herself. With their two roommates watching, she decided to let it slide.

Li Meng had similar thoughts. After making her point, she remained silent.

Both sisters simultaneously turned their attention to Su Ya. For someone who had just spent the afternoon with Ling Ning, she was now a subject of great interest—potentially even a rival.

Feeling their intense gazes, Su Ya blinked nervously. Why was everyone suddenly staring at her? It was making her uncomfortable!

“So, Su Ya, how long have you known Ling Ning?” Li Qian asked curiously. If her memory served her right, she had never seen Su Ya before. Could they have met through work or something?

“Not long. We just met yesterday.”

Su Ya replied, recounting how she and Ling Ning had met.

Hearing this, the twins simultaneously sighed in relief. Upon learning that Su Ya had a boyfriend—albeit an almost-boyfriend—they relaxed. For now, there was no immediate threat.

Li Qian seemed to forget that she herself had once been in a similar situation.

Su Ya also noticed how much the twins seemed to care about Ling Ning. Every mention of her name sparked countless topics. It was clear that Ling Ning was someone special.

Thinking back to her day with Ling Ning, Su Ya couldn’t help but recall the moment during lunch when Ling Ning had leaned in to wipe a grain of rice off her face. Her cheeks flushed slightly at the memory.

After dinner, Su Ya returned to her dorm, took a refreshing shower, and headed to the balcony with her phone. She was disappointed to find only one new message, and it wasn’t from her almost-boyfriend but from Ling Ning. There had been no calls or texts from Xie Zeyu, despite his promise to contact her later.

It was already past 9 PM. Not a single message. Su Ya couldn’t help but feel angry. After hesitating for a moment, she decided not to call him.

Instead, she opened Ling Ning’s message and started chatting with her.

Meanwhile, Lu Muyuan, who had planned to invite Su Ya for a board game, saw her engrossed in her phone.

Noticing Su Ya’s smile, Lu Muyuan assumed she was chatting with her boyfriend and decided not to disturb her.

At a nearby internet café, Xie Zeyu was fully immersed in playing Overwatch. His teammates were unusually strong, and they’d been on a winning streak all afternoon. It had been ages since he’d felt the thrill of consecutive victories.

“Damn, what’s with that Tracer? How is she hitting me from there? Her aim must be pure luck!”

“Don’t worry. I’ll go after her with my Winston—oh, come on! How did she land that headshot?!”

“I just stepped out of spawn and got wrecked. That Tracer has to be hacking!”

Hearing his teammates’ complaints, Xie Zeyu glanced at the screen. All his teammates on the point had been wiped out—every single one of them by the enemy Tracer.

Just as he was processing this, his Mercy got headshotted by an arrow seemingly out of nowhere. Watching the replay, Xie Zeyu clenched his fists. He was determined to turn the game around against this so-called “lucky Tracer.”

In the heat of the game, Xie Zeyu completely forgot about Su Ya and his promise to call her.

“Wow, it’s been so long since I’ve played Overwatch. Tonight was amazing! Lucky Tracer for the win. Playing while texting feels great!”

Ling Ning stretched contentedly in front of her computer, a satisfied grin on her face.
