How Could I Possibly Have a Daughter After Reincarnating?

“Ding-dong, ding-dong, ding-dong-ding-dong-ding-dong…”

Hearing the relentless doorbell ringing, Ling Ning pulled the covers over her head, trying to muffle the sound. It was still early, and the incessant ringing was pushing her patience to its limit.

The doorbell continued without pause, showing no sign of stopping. Ling Ning couldn’t bear it any longer. She threw off her blanket and glanced at her phone—it wasn’t even eight in the morning yet! Who could possibly be ringing her doorbell this early?

Sighing in defeat, Ling Ning got out of bed, walked to the door, and looked through the peephole. Standing outside was her childhood friend Bai Yiyue, looking bright-eyed and excited. Why was this airhead here so early?

Even though she was confused, Ling Ning opened the door.

“What brings you here so early?”

“Why else? I came to hang out with you, of course~” Bai Yiyue replied, as if her presence there was the most natural thing in the world.

She’d been away for several weeks, filming a series of variety shows out of town, and had only returned last night. She’d been so eager to see Ling Ning that she’d come over first thing in the morning. Today was also a special day for her, which made her even more excited to see her old friend.

“Well, you’re already here, so come in and sit down… Yawn~”

Ling Ning yawned, giving up on any hope of crawling back into her warm bed for more sleep.

As Ling Ning headed to the bathroom to freshen up, Bai Yiyue tiptoed into her room and threw herself onto the bed, taking a deep breath.

“Ahh, Ling Ning’s scent, Ling Ning’s pillow, Ling Ning’s blanket, Ling Ning’s bed… How I wish I could just sleep here forever~”

Just then, Bai Yiyue noticed something on the bed—a small piece of white fabric. Wait… could this be… Ling Ning’s worn lingerie?

Staring at that tempting white piece, Bai Yiyue could no longer resist. Her hand slowly reached out, giving in to the temptation.

Moments later, Ling Ning finished washing up and came back out to find the living room empty. Her visitor was nowhere in sight. She raised an eyebrow—if Bai Yiyue wasn’t in the living room, the only other place she could be was her room.

Sure enough, Ling Ning walked in to find Bai Yiyue sitting at her desk, casually flipping through a novel her daughter had just bought, How Could I Possibly Have a Daughter After Reincarnating. Ling Ning hadn’t thought much of it at first, but out of curiosity last night, she’d started reading it and found it surprisingly entertaining. She’d also heard the author was rumored to be a total heartthrob.

“What are you doing in here?”

“Oh, I got bored sitting in the living room, so I thought I’d see if you had any good books lying around~”

Ling Ning eyed her suspiciously. She was pretty sure Bai Yiyue didn’t usually care much for books. Had she suddenly developed an interest in reading?

Bai Yiyue met her gaze with an innocent look, a barely noticeable smile playing at her lips. She’d been very careful, quickly putting everything back in place as soon as she’d heard Ling Ning finish in the bathroom. She’d recently learned a few tricks to cover her tracks.

Thinking of her new skills, Bai Yiyue recalled the USB drive she’d bought at a recent comic convention. It was shaped like a fish, and she’d originally bought it to store photos of Ling Ning. But when she plugged it into her computer, she found it already had nineteen mysterious folders, named after the twelve zodiac signs and the seven stars of the Big Dipper. Out of curiosity, she’d opened the folder marked Leo, and before she knew it, she couldn’t stop exploring.

“Fine, if you’re reading, take the book to the living room. I’m going to get dressed.”

At the mention of “getting dressed,” Bai Yiyue, who had just gotten up, plopped right back down.

“Oh, come on. We’re both girls here—there’s no need to be shy around me!”

“I’ll count to three. If you’re not out by then, you’re on your own today. One… two…”

Before she reached three, Bai Yiyue was already outside, closing the door behind her.

Hearing the lock click, Ling Ning sighed. She really didn’t know what to do with her overly clingy childhood friend.

Outside the room, Bai Yiyue stared at the closed door, disappointment flickering in her eyes. How unfair! Just because we’re both girls, why did she have to chase me out?

A while later, Ling Ning finally emerged, now dressed in a simple skirt and blouse. With the summer heat, she’d all but stopped wearing tights, and makeup was unnecessary—she was naturally beautiful enough.

“Wow, you look stunning, Ling Ning!”

“Oh, cut the flattery. Go sit in the living room. I’ll go check if Ye Ye wants to join us.”

Ling Ning went to her daughter’s room and peeked inside. Seeing her daughter still fast asleep, she decided not to wake her. The relentless doorbell earlier hadn’t even disturbed her sleep, so it was best to let her rest.

When she returned alone, Bai Yiyue asked curiously, “Isn’t Ye Ye coming?”

“She’s still sleeping. She probably wouldn’t get up even if I called her, so let’s go without her.”

“Oh~”

Bai Yiyue nodded, slightly disappointed. She’d wanted to bond with Ling Ning’s daughter today, but now it seemed she wouldn’t get the chance. Still, spending time alone with Ling Ning was also appealing.

“By the way, remember when we took those wedding photos together?”

“Yeah, what about them?”

“It’s been about a month since we took them, right? The album should be ready by now. How about we pick it up today?”

Thinking back, Ling Ning realized Bai Yiyue was right. She hadn’t noticed how quickly time had flown by—it had already been a month since those photos were taken. Her vacation was slipping away, and she’d be back to school in less than two months.

Ling Ning shook her head, dismissing the thought. Worrying about school during vacation would only ruin her mood.

“Alright, let’s get breakfast first!”
