How Could I Possibly Have a Daughter After Reincarnating?

Chapter 306 : Give Me Back My Feelings, You Jerk!

"What are you doing here?" Lin Xi asked, her tone flat as she looked silently at Ito Makoto.

"I… I just wanted to see you," Makoto replied, gazing at her with what he hoped was a look of deep affection. He knew her well; she was soft-hearted. If he could just apologize humbly enough, there was a good chance he could win her back.

He’d already broken things off with that spoiled girl. Whatever happened, he was determined to get his ex-girlfriend back!

He’d even left his clothes from yesterday unchanged and sprinkled a bit of water on his hair and clothes to make it seem like he’d spent the night out in the cold. As he’d been about to go up to knock on her door, he’d unexpectedly seen his ex-girlfriend coming down with that attractive, mature-looking girl by her side. Their relationship must be quite close for her to allow a sleepover.

I never even managed to stay over once, he thought bitterly. The idea that he’d dated her for three years without even a kiss was pathetic.

At Makoto’s words, Lin Xi bit her lip. "Just leave. It’s too late for anything you say now. We’re already over!"

"Lin Xi, I don’t expect you to forgive me. I know I was wrong. I spent the entire night here, realizing that you’re the one I truly love."

Seeing the slight wavering in her eyes, Makoto let a brief smile flicker across his face. She still has feelings for me, he thought. It looks like my chances are pretty good.

Standing nearby, Ling Ning felt goosebumps at Makoto’s over-the-top lines. She couldn’t believe he had the gall to say this after what had happened the night before. If she wasn’t careful, she’d laugh out loud right here in the street.

Just then, a security guard happened to be passing by, and an idea popped into Ling Ning’s head. She called out to him. The guard, on his way home after the night shift, was initially annoyed at being stopped but quickly softened when he saw a pretty girl calling him over.

"Yes, miss? How can I help you?"

"Excuse me, Officer, but I was wondering if that guy over there really spent the whole night here?" Ling Ning asked, pointing at Makoto.

The guard looked in the direction she was pointing and shook his head. "That guy? I know him. He just came in when I started my shift this morning, eating a bun as he walked, and he tossed the wrapper near the security booth, so I remember him well. Besides, we have patrols at night. If he’d been standing around all night, he’d have been sent off a long time ago."

"Thank you, Officer!" Ling Ning flashed him a bright smile.

"No problem at all, miss."

Makoto felt a chill run through him the moment Ling Ning had called the guard over, and sure enough, after hearing the guard’s response, he looked visibly deflated.

"W-wait, Lin Xi, let me explain!"

He tried to plead, but his words sounded hollow and futile.

Lin Xi had heard every word the guard had said. She gave her ex-boyfriend a quiet look. "There’s nothing left to explain. Our relationship ended the moment I ran into you yesterday. I hope you won’t show up in front of me again. Goodbye."

With that, she turned and walked away. Ling Ning shrugged indifferently and followed her.

Makoto stared at their backs as they left. He didn’t chase after her; he knew that in this situation, there was no chance she’d listen. But who was that girl with his ex, constantly ruining his plans? This wasn’t the first time!

"How did you know he was faking it?" Lin Xi asked in a muffled voice. She’d almost fallen for her ex’s lie again. How many times had he deceived her? How many lies had he told? Why had things turned out like this?

"It was simple. You’re too close to the situation to see clearly. Just look at the water stains on him—they don’t look like dew from spending a night outside; they look like he poured it on himself. And his eyes—no dark circles or signs of fatigue at all. Does that look like someone who stayed up all night? And most importantly, he smelled like leek buns as soon as he started talking. You didn’t notice? I could smell it from a distance. There were lots of clues, but I won’t go through them all."

Ling Ning couldn’t help but think Makoto’s acting was painfully unprofessional. If he wanted to look haggard, he should at least have tried makeup. And as for the water stains, he could have used a spray bottle instead of just dousing himself; that way, it’d look more realistic.

How did he manage to date Lin Xi in the first place? Either that, or she was just too naïve, Ling Ning thought to herself.

Hearing Ling Ning’s explanation, Lin Xi opened her mouth, but for once, she was left speechless.

Then she felt Ling Ning take her hand, and turning to look, saw Ling Ning smiling at her.

"Alright, don’t dwell on it too much. The best way to forget something is to focus on something else. Like eating, or playing games. But first, let’s go have breakfast; I’m starving... Hey!?"

Ling Ning stopped as Lin Xi suddenly hugged her. With a soft sigh, she said nothing and simply let her stay that way.

The people on the street started looking their way. Two pretty girls suddenly embracing in public? That was bound to draw attention.

“Thank you.”

After a while, Lin Xi murmured softly.

“Oh, come on. You’ve already thanked me so many times. Once is enough! If you really want to thank me, let’s go eat already. I’m starving!”

Lin Xi’s heart had been touched by her words, but the last sentence ruined the mood entirely.
