Chapter 272 : The Medic’s Already Dead!
“Xia You, why don’t you wait for me downstairs? I’ll just take her up and be right back,” Ling Ning said as she supported Lin Xi, glancing back at Xia You.
Xia You nodded. She was afraid that if she went upstairs too, she wouldn’t be able to resist pulling out her knife and giving Lin Xi a taste of “seven stabs in, seven stabs out”—really making sure that bitch got the message. After all, Lin Xi had clung to Ling Ning the entire way here, enjoying the treatment Xia You herself had never experienced!
Seeing Xia You stay downstairs made Lin Xi anxious. What if Ling Ning, that shameless pervert, did something strange to her once they were alone in her apartment? There’d be no one to help her!
“Quit standing there. Don’t worry—I have zero interest in your flat figure,” Ling Ning shot her a sideways look, her tone full of disdain. She even puffed out her chest to emphasize her superiority.
Lin Xi had wanted to argue, but when she saw Ling Ning’s… well, assets, she immediately closed her mouth. It was just too demoralizing. She knew her own figure wasn’t bad, but still, there was a faint sense of sadness in her heart.
“Well, here we are. I won’t be going inside. Otherwise, you might get it into your head that I’d try something inappropriate. Remember not to walk too much on that foot. You’d better see a doctor tomorrow. Here’s my number. Since I played a part in your injury, feel free to call me if you need help. Alright, I’m off,” Ling Ning said, handing Lin Xi a slip of paper before turning to leave.
Lin Xi stared blankly at Ling Ning’s retreating figure as she disappeared around the corner of the stairwell. She hadn’t expected this pervert to actually behave decently. Could she really have misjudged her? No, no way—Ling Ning was definitely a shameless pervert!
Glancing at the note in her hand, Lin Xi crumpled it up, ready to toss it aside. But somehow, she hesitated. After a moment of indecision, she slipped it into her pocket.
Then, leaning against the wall, she limped toward the elevator. She was actually on the eighth floor, not the seventh; there was no way she’d give her real address to a complete stranger—especially not to a pervert like her.
“Huh? What’s this?”
After just a few steps, Lin Xi noticed a bracelet lying on the ground. It looked familiar… and then she remembered. It was the bracelet that pervert had been wearing! How had it ended up here?
She examined the bracelet carefully. It was pretty, but judging by the material, it looked like something from a street vendor. Considering how well-dressed that pervert had been, she didn’t seem like the type who couldn’t afford better jewelry.
Could it be a gift from someone she liked?
“Oh well,” Lin Xi thought. “Since she took the trouble of bringing me home, I’ll hold onto it for now. I’ll give it back when I feel like it.”

“Young people these days are so open!” Ling Ning muttered, watching a couple making out on the street. Didn’t they know that kissing in public was hurtful to all the single people out there?
Ling Ning and Xia You walked home slowly. Since they lived just a few streets away, they’d decided to walk. Ling Ning had wanted to try out the new shared bikes, but wearing a skirt without safety shorts, she thought better of it.
“… Mmh…” Xia You glanced at the couple and then at Ling Ning’s lips. She wanted to kiss her, to see the look of shock and helplessness on her face, to hold her down and watch her squirming, gasping beneath her. Just imagining it made her heart race a bit…
Ling Ning, oblivious, continued to lament the “decline of societal morals,” entirely unaware of Xia You’s intense gaze behind her.
“I’m home!”
As soon as she walked in, Ling Ning saw two little girls sitting on the couch watching TV. Dong Xue seemed reluctant, squirming in Ling Ye’s lap, but as Ling Ye was feeding her favorite chips to her, she was willing to endure it.
The moment she saw Ling Ning, Dong Xue slipped free from Ling Ye’s embrace and ran straight to her, grabbing onto her skirt.
“Xiao Xue, have you been listening to your big sister while I was out?”
Ling Ning asked, smiling and patting her on the head. The little girl squinted contentedly under her touch. If only she had cat ears right now… wait a minute!
Ling Ning suddenly remembered that her daughter had bought some cat ear hairbands at the convention yesterday. It would look adorable on Dong Xue.
“Yep, as expected—you’re too cute!” Ling Ning said with a satisfied nod as she looked at the now-cat-eared Dong Xue.
Curiously, Dong Xue touched the headband, looked in the mirror, and tilted her little head. She thought she looked pretty cute, too.
“Meow?!”
Hearing that little “meow,” Ling Ning quickly covered her nose. “Medic! What? The medic’s already dead?!”

“Huh? Where did my bracelet go?”
Ling Ning realized her bracelet was missing while she was in the shower. She instinctively looked around, but it was nowhere to be found.
Honestly, if it were just any bracelet, it wouldn’t matter much. But this one had been a birthday gift from her daughter. Even if it was a cheap one from a street vendor, she treasured it. Now that it was gone, she was pretty upset.
Not even bothering to get dressed, she wrapped a towel around herself and started searching the apartment. If it was lost at home, that was one thing, but if it had fallen at the convention center, the odds of getting it back were practically zero.
“Mom, what’s wrong?” Ling Ye asked, confused, as she saw her mother come out in only a towel.
“Well… Ye Ye, it’s the bracelet you gave me for my birthday. I lost it,” Ling Ning admitted, still scanning the floor.
“Oh, come on—it’s just a bracelet! I can buy you a few more later. Go finish your shower, or you’ll catch a cold!”
“But… but it was my birthday present from you, and I really liked it…”
“Alright, alright—just go back to your shower! Xiao Xue and I will look around the house for it. If you dropped it outside, though, it might be tough to get it back.”
