How Could I Possibly Have a Daughter After Reincarnating?

Chapter 134 : Ling Ning is Just a Glutton

"My sister carries a doll on her back, walks to the garden to see the cherry blossoms, the doll cries and calls for mama, the little bird on the tree laughs haha..."

Don't misunderstand—this is just Ling Ning's alarm ringtone. Lately, she's been watching a lot of horror movies with her daughter, and suddenly found these eerie lyrics quite intriguing.

The ringtone had been playing for quite a while before Ling Ning, wrapped up like a cocoon in her blanket, slowly stretched out her pale arm to grab her phone. She glanced at it and saw that it was already eight o'clock.

To be honest, she didn't really want to get up. Last night, she just couldn't sleep no matter what. Too proud to go into her daughter's room to sleep together, she eventually gave up and ended up getting out of bed to play Civilization VI on her computer.

Initially, she set herself a goal—to go to bed after a certain number of turns. However, before she knew it, the sun was already coming up.

Even though it was already seven in the morning, Ling Ning hadn't slept much at all. She felt like she could easily sleep for another five... five hundred years!

But regardless of how much she wanted to sleep, she had to get up. She had promised Li Qian last night that she would go shopping with her today. Li Qian was basically her lifetime meal ticket, so Ling Ning needed to serve her well. After all, her future lunches depended on it. Besides, she also wanted to buy a few sets of winter clothes for her daughter—what better opportunity than today?

With a sigh of resignation, Ling Ning slowly wriggled her way out of her blanket cocoon, shivering as she felt the chilly air outside the covers.

She quickly slipped into the jacket hanging by her bed and finally let out a sigh of relief.

Normally, she wouldn't have needed to get up this early, but Li Qian had called again late last night to change their meeting time, pushing it earlier and moving the meeting spot from the school gate to a bubble tea shop at the shopping plaza.

Though Ling Ning was curious about the changes, she didn't ask too many questions. It was just a different time and place, after all.

Today, Ling Ning wore a simple outfit—a base layer top, a knitted cardigan, a black pleated skirt with added thickness for warmth, and her usual leggings, paired with black ankle boots. It was a very casual ensemble.

The moment Ling Ning opened the door and stepped outside, she felt the chilly morning breeze brushing against her legs. After some thought, she went back inside to put on an extra layer of thicker leggings before heading out.

As for her daughter, Ling Ning had initially planned on dragging her along to buy clothes, but no matter how much she called, Ling Ye refused to budge from her bed. Eventually, Ling Ning gave up. She knew her daughter's clothing size and preferences well enough to buy for her.

Sometimes, Ling Ning wondered if she was spoiling her daughter too much. But then again, she only had one child—what harm could a little pampering do?

The shopping plaza wasn't far from Qin Qing's house. It was just a quick ride away, but Ling Ning didn't feel like taking the bus. For one, buses cost money, and secondly, she wanted to take a walk in the fresh morning air to clear her drowsy mind. Plus, she had gotten up early enough that walking would still give her plenty of time to get there, and she could even grab breakfast along the way—what a perfect plan.

Shopping Plaza.

Li Meng stood at the entrance of a bubble tea shop, carefully scanning the passersby. Although she had used her sister's phone last night to invite someone named "Ling Ning the Glutton" to meet here, she had no idea what this "Ling Ning the Glutton" looked like. She couldn't help but feel a little nervous.

Speaking of which, the name "Ling Ning the Glutton" sounded a lot like her sister's nickname style. Just as Li Meng was lost in her thoughts, a slender figure quietly approached her from behind.

Li Meng caught a whiff of a pleasant fragrance, and the next thing she knew, someone had grabbed her arm.

"Hey there, b***h."

Li Meng turned around to see a very pretty girl holding her arm. Despite her own confidence in her looks, she couldn't help but feel overshadowed by this girl.

Judging by how she was addressed, this had to be the person her sister referred to as "Ling Ning the Glutton"—in other words, Ling Ning.

"L-Ling Ning!?"

"Meow?"

Ling Ning looked at Li Meng with a puzzled expression. She couldn't understand why Li Qian called her name like a question. And for some reason, Ling Ning felt like there was something different about Li Qian today, but she couldn't quite put her finger on it—it was just odd.

"Sorry to keep you waiting. Last night I had something come up, so I changed the time and place for our meeting. Hope that's alright?" Li Meng smiled at Ling Ning.

Ling Ning raised an eyebrow at her. Usually, Li Qian treated her with an indifferent attitude. What had happened today? Did she take the wrong medicine, or maybe her head got caught in a door on the way out? Was she running a fever?

The more Ling Ning thought about it, the more plausible it seemed. She instinctively placed her hand on Li Meng's forehead, wanting to check for a fever.

"W-what are you doing!?"

Startled by Ling Ning's sudden move, Li Meng stiffened, wondering if she had made a mistake and exposed herself.

"I just wanted to check if you had a fever, that's all," Ling Ning said seriously.

Hearing that, Li Meng rolled her eyes, smacked Ling Ning's hand away, and snapped, "You're the one with a fever! Your whole family's got a fever!"

"Now that's the Li Qian I know. I was really starting to think there was something wrong with you."

Li Meng stared at Ling Ning, exasperated. Was this girl some sort of masochist?

"By the way, Ling Ning, can I borrow your phone for a second?" Li Meng suddenly asked.

"Don't you have your own phone? Why do you need mine?" Ling Ning asked, but still pulled her phone out of her bag and handed it to Li Qian.

Taking Ling Ning's phone, Li Meng quickly opened the contact list. Ling Ning didn't have many contacts, so it didn't take long for Li Meng to find her target—her sister's number. Without hesitation, she blocked it. After all, if her sister called Ling Ning later, her cover would be blown.

"Oh, I brought you some breakfast, by the way." Ling Ning handed over a bag of steamed buns and soy milk to Li Meng.

"Th-thank you."

"So, where do you plan to take me today? Don't tell me you haven't thought of anything yet."

"Huh!?"

Hearing Ling Ning's question, Li Meng froze, mid-bite into a bun. The truth was, she really hadn't thought about what they'd do after meeting up. After some quick thinking, she said, "Well, let's just wander around for a bit first."
