Chapter 19 : Chapter 19
Chapter 19 : I Am a Woman, I Am a Petty Person
Hongxu lay sprawled across the table, watching as Chenxi placed item after item into his backpack.
“Boss, what are we doing now?”
“Preparing the things we will need for the Dungeon.”
Recovery potions, five bottles.
Mana potions, five bottles.
Swiftness potions, five bottles.
There were also compressed rations and drinking water. He could not bring too little. If the supplies were insufficient, they might run out before anything even happened.
But he could not bring too much either. Carrying too much would reduce mobility.
“No wonder those guys were so crazy yesterday. Fifty gold coins.
I was only worth eight gold coins.”
Her head swayed back and forth as it rested on the table. “Maybe it is because I am too ugly. Actually, among my people, I am considered rather good-looking.”
“In my eyes, you look very good as well.”
Chenxi spoke calmly. That was indeed what he thought. Girls from other races with different skin tones were quite attractive.
There had even been a period in his previous life when he had been very obsessed with that sort of thing and had specifically searched for related… ahem. Never mind.
Of course, he did not know what kind of aesthetic standards people in this world had.
Hongxu stared at Chenxi blankly, her heartbeat quickening by several beats.
Chenxi finished packing the backpack and looked at Hongxu.
“Put this on. We are about to depart.”
He reached into his black robe and rummaged around.
Clang!
Hongxu had not yet recovered from what Chenxi had just said. She stared at the crimson armor in front of her, decorated with magnificent patterns.
Where did you pull that out from?
…
“Boss.”
“What is it?”
“Why are you carrying that strange stick on your back?”
“This is my weapon.”
“That thing is a weapon?”
“Yes.”
Hongxu reached out and touched Chenxi’s forehead.
“Boss.”
“What is it?”
“Have you finally gone insane?”
“…”
Hongxu turned her head. The familiar squeaking sounds echoed nearby.
With one hand, she lifted her green-quality double-bladed axe, and an excited grin appeared once more on her face.
“Finally, it is here!”
Bang!
A dull explosion echoed.
Before Hongxu could even react, the head of the strongest elite Goblin burst apart.
Yes, it exploded outright.
Hongxu turned her head in confusion. Chenxi was holding that strange weapon.
The dark muzzle was releasing a thin wisp of smoke.
The corner of Chenxi’s mouth lifted almost imperceptibly.
Perfect. Perfect.
This is exactly the expression I wanted to see.
“Are you not fighting? Those things are coming.”
“Huh? Oh! Of course I am fighting!”
A one-sided slaughter began.
…
Chenxi carried a bulging pack on his back, the M24 slung diagonally along the side of his backpack.
Hongxu strode boldly at the front, blood continuously dripping from her axe.
From the first floor all the way to the fifth floor—everything was cleared.
From time to time, she glanced curiously at the weapon on Chenxi’s back.
Then she lowered her head to look at the brand-new crimson breastplate she was wearing. Her fingers could not help scratching here and touching there.
“Boss,” she finally could not hold it in anymore. She quickened her pace and moved closer to Chenxi, lowering her voice with undisguised astonishment. “This armor… something is wrong with it!”
Chenxi did not slow his steps. “What is wrong with it?”
“After wearing it, it feels like my strength has… increased a little? And when I get hit, it does not hurt at all!”
Hongxu’s voice was full of excitement. This armor had power!
She could clearly feel a strange force seeping from the armor and merging into her body.
The sensation was incredibly strange. It completely overturned her understanding of equipment.
She knew equipment could block blades and weapons, but directly strengthening the human body?
She had never heard of such a thing.
“So you noticed.”
“Of course! It is incredibly obvious!”
Hongxu said eagerly. Then she cautiously glanced around, even though the tunnel contained only the sound of their footsteps.
She leaned even closer, almost pressing against Chenxi’s ear. Her warm breath brushed against the side of his neck.
“What exactly is this thing?
Is it enchanted? But enchanted weapons cost a fortune, and I have never heard of anything this outrageous!”
Chenxi tilted his head slightly to avoid the overly close breath.
His tone remained calm. “A secret.”
Too close. Did this idiot Hongxu not understand the difference between men and women?
“A secret?”
Hongxu’s eyes lit up instantly. She loved secrets.
“To be able to produce something like this, Boss, you are really amazing!”
She rubbed her hands excitedly, baring her tiger fangs. “Boss, you really—”
“Only the two of us know.”
Chenxi interrupted her before her endless chatter could begin, his tone growing more serious.
“Remember this. The existence of this thing cannot be told to anyone.
No one.”
Hongxu’s excited smile vanished.
“I cannot tell anyone?”
“…Do you think this is something that can be told to others?”
“Of course it cannot! Boss, do you really need to ask me that? You really are an idiot!”
“…”
His fist tightened.
It tightened!
Hongxu grinned smugly. “Do not worry, Boss. Even if I die, I will not tell anyone about this. No one else will ever know.”
“That is not necessary. If it truly comes down to a life-or-death situation, then say it.
Between the secret and your life, the latter matters more to me.”
After saying this while looking directly into Hongxu’s eyes, Chenxi prepared to leave. It would be better to complete this mission sooner.
“Oh…”
She responded softly, lowering her head. Her fingers absentmindedly traced the surface of the breastplate again, and she felt an indescribable emotion stirring in her heart.
Boss was always like this. He looked cold on the surface, yet the things he said always struck the softest place in her heart.
This secret was clearly extremely important.
Even someone as slow as she was understood that.
Yet in his eyes, her life mattered more?
Ugh…
The thought made her cheeks grow slightly warm.
“Let us go.”
Chenxi said no more and stepped into the sixth floor.
Hongxu shook her head, throwing away those messy emotions. She gripped her axe tightly and followed close behind, her face once again filled with eager battle intent.
“Yes! Kill! Kill! Kill!”
She could not understand it. She could not figure it out.
Kill! Kill! Kill!
This, at least, she understood.
…
“The sixth floor… this should be the territory of the Parasitic Spiders.”
Chenxi said it casually.
Hongxu froze for a second.
Then a wild grin spread across her face, and a dangerous gleam flashed in her eyes.
“Boss, the day before yesterday, those things seemed to have a great time chasing us.”
Chenxi silently took out the M24.
“There is a saying: a gentleman’s revenge can wait ten years.”
“I am a woman!”
“I am a petty person.”
SLAP!
Their hands clapped together.
“Go?”
“Let us go!”
