Invincible through Touching Corpses

Chapter 181 - 180: Returning to Support

Let’s rewind twenty seconds. When Lin Xinghai saw the Death Claw enter its berserk state, he immediately realized the gravity of the situation.

Upon entering a berserk state, its combat power would instantly rise by a whole level. It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say its strength had doubled. Under these circumstances, one could only imagine how terrifying the Death Claw would be.

So, he no longer held anything back, unleashing his Superpower at full strength.

In front of him was a dense horde of Zombies, including over a hundred High Level Zombies that had also entered a berserk state. Theoretically, a horde of this size could have easily overwhelmed him by sheer numbers.

But all of this was predicated on one thing: that they could actually hit him.

With his Superpower unleashed at full strength, the Mecha’s Speed could reach a terrifying 4,000 points.

One had to understand that once Speed reached a certain level, any further increase would produce completely different results.

Normally, when encountering a zombie horde, a Mecha would face attacks from all directions.

However, by increasing its Speed to 2,000 points, the Zombies behind and to the sides couldn’t attack faster than the Mecha could move. They could only watch helplessly, leaving only the Zombies in front to attempt an interception.

And at a Speed of 4,000 points, even the Zombies in front couldn’t intercept him. Before they could even leap, the Mecha had already shot past them.

Moreover, Lin Xinghai didn’t just advance along the road. Instead, he leaped forward, using the abandoned vehicles and collapsed buildings by the roadside as footholds. Before the Zombies could even react, he transformed into a bolt of metallic lightning, soaring over their heads.

The only thing that could possibly threaten him was the Spitter’s venom, but with such Speed, he could easily dodge it.

And once he got close, there was nothing more to be said. A single thrust of his weapon was enough to impale it.

After killing the Spitter, Lin Xinghai rushed back. With one less Mutated Zombie to command them, the horde’s offensive rhythm clearly slowed.

The High Level Zombies in particular were no longer so frenzied. Possessing a degree of intelligence, they were unwilling to act as cannon fodder, letting the Ordinary Zombies take the front lines while they switched to ambush tactics.

Under these circumstances, the pressure on the convoy greatly decreased, and the various Mercenary Corps could finally catch their breath.

Lin Xinghai lowered his Mecha’s Speed back to 2,000 points and activated its self-diagnostic and repair systems.

After its modifications, the Mecha’s standard full-power Speed was 1,000 points. However, knowing that Lin Xinghai possessed a Speed-type Superpower, its designers had given it a theoretical max Speed of 2,000 points.

It could even briefly maintain a Speed of 3,000 points in an overloaded state without issue.

However, no one had expected that with Lin Xinghai’s Superpower fully unleashed, his Speed could actually reach 4,000 points.

This completely exceeded its designed speed limit. Even though his Superpower enabled him to reach such a speed, damage to the frame was inevitable.

’Twenty seconds, and the power system is already 7% damaged. A bit fast, but acceptable.’ Looking at the diagnostic results, Lin Xinghai’s brow furrowed, but it soon relaxed.

’After all, this battle isn’t going to last long. Once we’re out of the horde, I can perform simple repairs on the Mecha.’

...

CRASH!

On the other side, Song Yao, still in shock from Lin Xinghai’s swift elimination of the Spitter, was caught off guard and sent flying by a swipe from the Death Claw. That was only because Qin Wenbo had managed to block part of the blow for him; otherwise, his Mecha would have been heavily damaged.

"Old Song, are you trying to get yourself killed?! How could you get distracted at a time like this? What happened?" Qin Wenbo’s grave voice came through the communication channel. In his opinion, Song Yao should never have made such a rookie mistake.

"Thanks. It’s good news. Lin Xinghai has already taken care of the Spitter and is on his way back," Song Yao replied.

"What!" Qin Wenbo was every bit as shocked as Song Yao had been and subconsciously glanced in Lin Xinghai’s direction.

It wasn’t just him; nearly everyone on the communication channel made the same motion after hearing the stunning news.

’This is bad,’ Song Yao cursed inwardly upon hearing Qin Wenbo’s gasp. "Everyone, focus! People will die!" he yelled into the comms channel as he charged forward to intercept the Death Claw’s attack.

Fortunately, his warning was timely, and since he took the hit alone, there were no casualties.

They had snapped back to their senses, but their minds were still reeling, because none of them had any idea how Lin Xinghai had managed it.

Of course, this didn’t stop them from understanding one thing: Lin Xinghai’s strength was perhaps the greatest among the Three Major Mercenary Corps, even surpassing Song Yao, who was at the Blood Qi Realm. It was unbelievable, but the truth was right before their eyes, leaving them no choice but to accept it.

After the shock came excitement. Everyone understood that once Lin Xinghai returned, the situation was bound to improve. They wouldn’t have to be on edge like they were now, constantly worried that a Mecha would suddenly be destroyed by the Death Claw, causing their entire line to collapse.

However, they weren’t the only ones who realized this—so did the Death Claw.

After seeing two of its companions die in succession, its attacks became even more frenzied. It often abandoned all defense, adopting a tactic of trading blow for blow.

Lin Xinghai returned quickly. Even moving through the zombie horde, it took him less than a minute. But in that short minute, the state of the battle had become incredibly brutal.

One of the Holy Light Mercenary Corps’ Mechas had its head cleaved off. Of course, since the cockpit was located in the chest, the pilot was unharmed. But the head housed numerous sensors, and losing it meant the unit was now half-blind.

In addition, one of the Soaring Dragon Merc’s Mechas had an arm broken, greatly reducing its combat effectiveness.

As for the others fighting in melee at the front, their weapons had all sustained some damage. Fang Tianhe’s Great Saber, for instance, was on the verge of snapping in two.

But on the whole, their losses were still manageable.

As for the Death Claw, it had sustained hundreds of wounds, large and small, but the vast majority were insignificant. The most severe was a three-meter-long gash.

Song Yao had inflicted this wound with a full-power strike using his Blood Qi Power. The gash had torn through the creature’s cuticle and muscle layers, but that was all. It hadn’t even reached the bone, let alone the internal organs.

To the Death Claw, a wound like this was also just a minor injury; it had barely even bled.

Everyone understood that if this war of attrition continued, they would be the first to break. Lin Xinghai was their last hope. If he failed, their only choice would be to leave a few Mechas behind to delay the Death Claw and resort to using their ultimate weapon—missiles.

But if it truly came to that, the few Mechas left behind to stall it would almost certainly be sacrificed.

"Clear an attack position for me." Finally, they heard Lin Xinghai’s voice over the comms channel.

At this moment, Lin Xinghai, piloting his Mecha, had already closed to within 50 meters of the battlefield.

"The Death Claw’s Defense Power is terrifying," Song Yao reminded him. "Old Qin and I will create an opening for you. The rest is up to you."

He had read the data on Mjolnir and knew the weapon could unleash three Thunder Attacks. Those three attacks were perhaps their only hope of turning the tables.
