Invincible through Touching Corpses

Chapter 180 - 179: Killed Another One

Everyone’s expression changed at the sight, especially that of Wu Hongfan, the pilot raising his shield in defense.

As a veteran of the Holy Light Mercenary Corps, he had been in countless battles and had, of course, fought Death Claws before.

The Death Claws he’d encountered in the past were terrifying, to be sure, but his Mecha, with its enhanced Defense, had always been able to withstand them.

But the Death Claw in its current berserk state was simply too terrifying.

Looking at the five long cracks on his shield, he instantly judged that this costly Alloy Shield could withstand twenty direct hits at most.

Upon realizing this, he immediately tried to retreat, only to find it wasn’t nearly that simple.

A Death Claw’s Speed was normally considered average. With a Mecha’s speed, you could still retreat even if you couldn’t win. But in its berserk state, its Speed had skyrocketed, clearly surpassing his own.

The Death Claw stayed right on the Mecha as it retreated. After one strike, it swiped sideways, knocking his shield aside and leaving the Mecha wide open.

Just then, the Death Claw’s other claw struck.

Seeing the Sharp Claw glinting menacingly, Wu Hongfan’s face paled. That last blow had given him a stark understanding of the Death Claw’s Attack Power.

Without the Alloy Shield, the Mecha’s outer armor alone couldn’t possibly block the Death Claw’s attack. And since the creature was aiming for the cockpit, a single blow might just be enough to kill him.

Just at this critical moment, Qin Wenbo made his move. He activated his Superpower, and dozens of thigh-thick vines suddenly shot out from the ground, rapidly wrapping around the Death Claw’s limbs.

This was his Rare Superpower, Vine Entanglement.

Each of these thick vines was incredibly tough. If used to bind a High Level Zombie, it would take them one or two hours to break free.

Even when used on other Mutated Zombies, a successful entanglement would hold them for at least a dozen seconds.

But the Death Claw snapped them all in less than a second.

After all, compared to the Death Claw’s enormous body, these thigh-thick vines were no more than flimsy grass ropes.

However, that brief instant was enough for Wu Hongfan to pull back and dodge the fatal blow.

The Death Claw tried to continue its pursuit after snapping the vines, but just then, the strongest among them, Song Yao, made his move.

He raised his Mecha’s right arm. As he activated his Superpower, a ball of pale yellow light materialized in its palm.

This was his awakened Rare Superpower, Holy Light Judgment.

As he unleashed his Superpower, the Blood Qi Power within his body also surged forth.

The pale yellow ball of light gradually became suffused with a bloody hue.

Once the two combined, everyone nearby—Mercenary and Zombie alike—felt a mortal danger and instinctively recoiled from him.

Of course, the feeling was fleeting. The moment the blood-red orb fully formed, it shot out like a laser blast.

BOOM!

Struck head-on, the Death Claw’s body instantly recoiled. Large patches of its skin were scorched black, and its relentless pursuit was finally broken.

Seizing the opportunity, the other Mechas charged forward and surrounded the Death Claw.

Yet, everyone wore a grim expression. The berserk Death Claw was far more terrifying than they had imagined.

Under normal circumstances, Qin Wenbo’s Rare Level Superpower should have been able to bind a Death Claw for at least two or three seconds.

As for Song Yao’s attack, which combined his Rare Superpower with Blood Qi Power, it would take half the life of a lesser Mutated Zombie, like a Hunter or a Spitter, with a single direct hit.

A strike to a vital area could even be an instant kill.

Even against a normal Death Claw, it should have inflicted significant damage. But now, aside from some scorched skin, the creature had sustained no real harm.

They had never imagined that a Spitter, coordinating with other Mutated Zombies, could produce such terrifying combat effectiveness. This was far more than a simple case of one plus one equals two.

Fortunately, Lin Xinghai had them stay behind. Otherwise, they might have lost a Mecha in that very first exchange.

"All of you, attack! Melee units, focus on staying stable! Ranged units, give it everything you’ve got! This state can’t last long. If we just hold on, we’ll win!" Song Yao declared, then raised his Giant Axe and was the first to charge.

The other Mechas with defensive equipment or Defensive Superpowers also moved to the front line. The rest used whatever means they had, attacking from a distance with either Superpowers or Electromagnetic Railguns.

But even while being besieged by fifteen Mechas simultaneously, the Death Claw didn’t seem to be at a disadvantage at all.

Even the Mechas on the front line, including Song Yao’s, were having an incredibly difficult time. The Death Claw’s attacks were just too powerful; a single swipe would damage their weapons.

As for their own attacks on the Death Claw, even the slugs from the Electromagnetic Railguns could only penetrate a dozen centimeters at most, creating a wound the size of a bowl.

A wound like that would have grievously injured a normal Zombie. But on the Death Claw, which was the size of a three-story building, it was nothing more than a scratch.

A heavy feeling settled in the hearts of everyone who witnessed this.

’The thing I’m most grateful for right now is that Lin Xinghai took care of the Hunters first,’ Song Yao thought. ’If we had to deal with attacks from Hunters on top of this, our three Mercenary Corps might really be wiped out here.’

Thinking of this, he spared a glance in Lin Xinghai’s direction, and what he saw stunned him.

The Spitter that had been a constant long-range threat was now dead—deader than dead. At some point, Lin Xinghai had pierced its head straight through.

He had no idea how he’d done it. Before the Death Claw had attacked, he had been keeping an eye on Lin Xinghai’s position.

Just moments ago, Lin Xinghai had been over 400 meters from the Spitter. Between them lay a massive interception net formed by over 100 berserk High Level Zombies.

That many High Level Zombies, all of them berserk... Forget Lin Xinghai handling them alone, it would have been incredibly troublesome even with him and Qin Wenbo helping.

After all, the Spitter was watching menacingly from a distance. If a Mecha was hit by even one spray of its venom, it would suffer fatal damage.

’In my mind, even if Lin Xinghai could handle such a situation, it should have been a long and grueling battle of attrition.’

’But now... how long had it taken him to kill the Spitter?’

’Ten seconds? Twenty?’

In any case, their own fight against the Death Claw’s frenzied assault had lasted no more than half a minute.

He could rack his brains and still not figure out how Lin Xinghai had managed to break through such a heavy blockade and kill the Spitter in so little time.

Of course, none of that mattered now. Lin Xinghai had taken care of the Spitter. ’As long as he gets back here,’ he thought, ’the tide of this battle will surely turn.’

Because Lin Xinghai wielded the Mjolnir, the masterpiece of the Star Shield Shelter. The damage it could inflict on the Death Claw was on a completely different level from what they could manage.
