Chapter 5 : Chapter 5
Chapter 5 - Finding a Place to Live
Yang Guo’s efficiency was much faster than Lin Zhi had imagined.
After only ten minutes, Lin Zhi’s phone rang. Lin Zhi was still hiding near the hospital stairwell.
He had no choice; there were too many people coming and going in the hospital. In this current body, Lin Zhi didn't want the eyes of the entire hospital following him.
The moment he picked up the phone, Lin Zhi walked toward the main hospital entrance.
"Hello, Brother Yang," Lin Zhi said with a hint of mischief.
Before the other person could speak, Lin Zhi spotted Fatso standing at the entrance.
He was still wearing the same clothes he wore when he dropped Lin Zhi off earlier, but his hair was slicked back, looking like he’d used some hair gel. He looked quite the dandy.
Hanging up the phone, Lin Zhi went straight to Fatso's side. "Brother Yang!"
Fatso, who was currently searching the crowd for Lin Zhi’s figure, was startled by the sudden approach.
Before he could react, his arm was tightly grabbed by a girl.
This girl was like a blooming snow lotus, dressed in a snow-white outfit. She was about 1.7 meters tall, and her face was radiant with a sun-like smile.
Her small mouth was curved into a grin, revealing white teeth that shone like pearls. Her gem-like eyes were staring straight at Fatso.
Fatso had never seen such a beautiful girl before. For a moment, he was dumbstruck, his mouth hanging wide open.
A line of saliva even began to slide down from the corner of his mouth.
Looking at Fatso’s dazed, lovestruck expression, Lin Zhi couldn't help but feel speechless.
He reached out and slapped Fatso’s shoulder hard, scolding him, "You guy, can you stop acting like you've never seen the world?"
This slap wasn't light. Fatso grimaced in pain, but he finally snapped out of it.
"You are... Lin... Lin Zhi’s... sister?"
Fatso looked suspicious. Seeing no sign of Lin Zhi, he followed up with, "Where is... your brother? Why isn't he... with you?"
Fatso truly found it hard to believe that this girl could be Lin Zhi’s sister.
While Lin Zhi was quite handsome—with sword-like eyebrows, bright eyes, a high nose bridge, and a height of 185cm—making him a campus heartthrob level figure, compared to this "sister," one could only say that Lin Zhi was merely "passable"...
Looking at Fatso, who was so nervous he was stuttering, Lin Zhi curled his lips. His interest in teasing Fatso vanished without a trace.
He threw an arm around Fatso’s shoulder. "Where’s the car? Let’s go, we can talk inside."
Being held by the shoulder by such a girl made Fatso even more nervous. His legs felt like they were under a spell, each having a mind of its own. He stumbled as he walked, looking like he would fall over any second.
"What! You’re Lin Zhi?!"
From the driver's seat inside the car came Fatso’s deafening shout. The sound was so loud the car seemed to vibrate slightly.
Sitting in the passenger seat, Lin Zhi dug a finger into his ear which had been assaulted by the noise, looking at him with amusement.
"What, you don't believe me? How about the time in seventh grade when you came to my house to sleep and wet the bed? I haven't told anyone..."
"Mmph!"
Before he could finish, Fatso clamped a hand over Lin Zhi’s mouth.
As a childhood friend, Lin Zhi knew many of Fatso’s secrets. This specific incident was something only the two of them knew; there was no third person.
Wetting the bed in seventh grade was a shameful secret Fatso would never tell anyone else.
As for Lin Zhi, he knew this well. Although he often mocked Fatso in private, it was only a joke between the two of them.
If other friends or classmates were present, Lin Zhi would always fiercely protect Fatso’s dignity.
Faced with this lifelong best friend, Lin Zhi naturally wouldn't hide anything.
After driving the car into a quiet side street and stopping, he recounted his recent experiences to Fatso...
As a youth of the new era, Fatso found Lin Zhi’s story hard to believe at first.
Immortal birds? Giant fingers? This sounded even more absurd than an alien encounter.
However, as he looked at Lin Zhi’s serious expression, determined eyes, and his usual speaking habits and subtle gestures, the doubts in Fatso’s heart gradually faded. He eventually chose to believe everything he heard.
"So, according to what you’re saying, you are currently in an immortal bird's body with your own consciousness, while that immortal bird is using your body to recover in the hospital?"
"That is exactly the case."
Seeing that Fatso had accepted this bizarre description, Lin Zhi slowly breathed a sigh of relief and continued.
"The problem now is that I need a place to stay. I can't go back to my own home, and I don't have an ID for a hotel. I have to rely on you to figure this out."
Hearing this, Fatso started the car without hesitation and said heroically, "That’s a small matter. My family has plenty of houses."
After a short pause, Fatso peeked at Lin Zhi out of the corner of his eye while driving.
"Let’s go back to my place first to grab some toiletries and food, then I'll take you to another one of my family’s properties."
No one was at Fatso’s house at the moment except for a nanny. Hearing the door open, she came out to greet them.
"You're back, Guozhu. Auntie will cook for you."
The nanny, Li Mei, said with a beaming smile while taking slippers from the shoe cabinet for them to change into.
During this time, her gaze fell upon Lin Zhi in the long dress, and she couldn't help but be startled.
In all her years of living, she had never seen such a beautiful girl. She looked far better than the stars on television.
"Auntie Mei, I've told you not to call me Guozhu." Although Fatso expressed his resistance, he didn't say much more.
Yang Guo’s parents were busy all day and often didn't come home for months at a time. It was Li Mei who had painstakingly cared for Fatso since he was a child.
Therefore, Fatso regarded Li Mei as family and didn't have much actual resentment toward her.
After changing his shoes, Lin Zhi looked at the busy Li Mei and said sweetly, "Hello, Auntie Mei. I am Yang Guozhu’s classmate. My name is 'Lin Hua'."
His voice was as pleasant as a warbler leaving a valley. Even though he knew "Lin Hua's" true identity, Fatso still found himself entranced.
The corner of Lin Zhi’s mouth twitched unnaturally. He thought to himself: This kid is acting weird!
Declining the offer of a meal once again, Lin Zhi and Yang Guo hurriedly packed some things and dashed out the door.
Looking at Yang Guo carrying full bags in both hands and a backpack on his back that was stuffed until it was bulging—clearly quite heavy.
"Sigh, don't you know how to give me a hand?"
Yang Guo struggled forward, his forehead covered in fine beads of sweat.
"I’m a delicate girl now. Aren't you ashamed to ask that of a lady, being a big man?"
Lin Zhi muttered softly, but he still reached out to take two small bags.
Yang Guo rolled his eyes and shook his free hand with a sigh of relief. He then handed over half of the bags from his other hand, which finally made things a bit easier.
Inside a high-end residential complex, following the entry of Yang Guo’s fingerprint, the lock turned with a SNAP. Lin Zhi and Yang Guo opened the door and walked in.
On the sofa in the living room, things were tossed haphazardly to the side. Yang Guo dove onto it, and the sofa instantly formed a deep pit before slowly returning to its original shape.
Yang Guo was currently like a dying fish, lying lifelessly on the sofa, clearly exhausted.
Lin Zhi gently placed the things in his hands on the table, glanced at Yang Guo on the sofa, and then began to carefully examine the room.
The living room was spacious and bright. A row of gray sofas stood like loyal guards, tightly surrounding a transparent table in the center.
Directly opposite the sofa, the television wall was empty, and the coffee table below was covered in dust, indicating that few people lived here.
After walking around the apartment, Lin Zhi had a general understanding of the environment.
Like his own home, this was a standard three-bedroom, two-living-room layout, with a balcony in the master bedroom. Although no one lived here, basic furniture was fully provided.
The slumped Yang Guo struggled to get up and walked toward the refrigerator, wanting to get a bottle of water.
However, when he opened the fridge, he found it completely empty. Disappointed, he licked his dry lips, turned into the nearby kitchen, and turned on the faucet.
The water flowed like a clear spring into his mouth. He drank several large gulps as if he were sucking on the source of life itself.
"That’s better! Do you want some? I'll pour some for you?" Yang Guo wiped the remaining water droplets from his mouth and spoke to Lin Zhi.
"Is this how you treat a guest?"
Lin Zhi feigned anger and frowned slightly. His beautiful face was like a lake rippled by the wind, possessing a unique charm.
Yang Guo’s gaze flickered, and he didn't dare look directly at Lin Zhi, crying out in his heart.
Dammit! Who could handle this?
