Chapter 284 – Savings

The group reached a rather interesting landmark within the monster country. To be precise, a massive ravine that was several kilometers wide and seemingly endless. The sisters were very eager to just jump down and get it over with, but Ari didn't like the idea. Giving her the princess treatment, Sophia then dumped multiple thousands of tons of dirt out of her domain to create a makeshift bridge by filling the ravine in front of them so they could get to the other side easily.

“Blu, do you want to go on a trip with me?” Sophia smiled at the little parakeet sitting on the palm of her hand, which she was holding up while standing in front of her cottage.

*Chirp* The little bird reacted with a few energetic chirps while also flapping its wings.

“Happy to hear~.” She liked the shown reaction. “Alrighty, let’s go!” Snapping her fingers with her other hand, the two then relocated to a different place in her domain. They ended up on another floating island, but it was not the one over her cherry blossom forest, and it only had a single chair put in the middle of it.

*Chirp?* Blu tilted its head while looking around.

“No need to act surprised here.” The blonde just stared at the bird. “I know that you’ve been in every inch of my domain before, including this place.”

*…* The parakeet froze in place.

“Anyway, I think I did a good job here, didn’t I?” She walked towards the edge of the floating island and looked down. There, everything was covered in pink and purple raw magic particles. The amount of magic was so dense that the ground couldn’t be seen, so there was no telling how thick the layer was, but most importantly, it covered so much area that one couldn’t see where it ended in the distance, not even from the high altitude at which the island was floating in. It easily spanned over many dozens of kilometers, or maybe even more. "I spent the last couple of months constantly converting my authority into raw magic and pumping it here through a portal while being in the regular world. I have no idea how much it exactly is, but it definitely should be like a four-digit number of my regular authority.”

*ChirpChirpChirp* Blu firmly nodded its head in return.

“I take that as a yes, which is great news!” The tiger lightly clapped her hands. “Okay, let’s get down and personal with it.”

*…?*

“Don’t look at me like that! I know that was a terrible pun!” She didn’t like the parakeet’s expression, not that birds have much of an expression. “Let’s just go!” Wasting no more time, Sophia just jumped off the floating island, as Ari was nowhere to be seen, and dropped like a rock into the literal sea of raw magic particles that completely swallowed her whole. The hole she created was immediately filled by particles again, and it looked like she had never been there in the first place.

----------------

“Woah, I can't even see my own hands! In fact, everywhere is just pink and purple and sparkly!” Sophia landed at the bottom of her domain, not that she could see it, because her entire view was filled with the raw magic in such high density that not a single particle of her all-white domain came through. “I forgot just how overpowering and blinding it is to be surrounded by this much magic, especially because my detection is overwhelmed and not working, either.” She then paused for a second. “Could I get some space to look and breathe?”

‘Of course!’ The particles suddenly started buzzing around like a small whirlwind and formed a dome around her with enough space to see the white floor below and to move around a good bit. Afterward, a group of particles banded together and formed into those letters floating in front of her.

“Ohh!” Seeing that, Sophia energetically clapped her hands while her eyes were sparkling as much as the particles were. "Did we reach critical mass for you to be able to talk to me again?"

‘Very much so!’ The particles formed into a different sentence while still floating in the air.

“That’s awesome!” She got even more energetic. “But still not enough to actually speak, huh?”

‘Very much so!!!!!!’ The particles just added a couple of extra exclamation marks.

“Too bad, but that will become my goal for another time!”

‘We look forward to it.’ The raw magic reformed into a different sentence.

“Do I want to know how much I need for that?”

‘No’ The floating word then swished from left to right for a moment. ‘You would get sad if you knew.’

“Ahaha…” The blonde awkwardly scratched her cheek. “Well, you still seem a lot more responsive compared to last time I was able to converse with you, so I’m still beyond pleased! I missed this! I should’ve done this much earlier. Last time it was just some words and symbols, so this is amazing!”

‘Last time, it was only a few of us.' The particles waited a second before continuing to let her read. ‘Now it’s more than 200 times more of us!’

“200 times?!” Sophia raised her voice. “I didn’t realize it was that much! Wow, I really converted a lot of magic through me! Wait, how do you remember last time?” She then looked confused.

‘Magic always remembers. Never forgets.’

“But it forgives, right?”

‘?’

“Never mind, that was just a stupid joke.” The blonde wasn’t too proud of that. “Wait, so even magic gets used for it, the, uhh… memory remains?”

‘Magic doesn’t get used. Magic gets borrowed. Changes shape.’ The particles were moving all over the place as they formed those words and sentences.

“Right, I remember hearing about the last time, too!” She nodded a few times. “How does magic remember, though? It was a different place and different magic, right?”

‘All magic is connected. Shares information.’

“Every single particle?”

‘Yes’

“Even between domains?” Sophia’s interest kept growing. “Like mine, or Mira’s, or the regular world?”

‘Magic shares information when it crosses domains.’

“Ahh, that makes sense.” She kept nodding. “So, there’s no hiding from you, huh?”

‘Yes’

“I’m so happy that I love you all so much!” Sophia was glad that she had no intention of ever getting on magic’s bad side. “Still, having such a memory is amazing!”

‘Yes’ The particles also seemed quite thrilled about it. ‘We can only access memories depending on our concentration. More magic, more available memory.’

“Oho, I guess that makes sense.” She was trying her best to follow the explanation. “So, how much do you remember right now?”

‘Some’

“Still a little cryptic, huh? Well, the last time I spoke with magic probably was a couple of months ago, so I guess it’s at least that much.”

‘Magic in this place remembers enough to know that you are… interesting…’

"Were all those extra dots really necessary?!” Sophia raised her voice as she stared at the floating text in front of her.

‘Yes’

“Urgh.” The blonde didn’t like that.

‘Interesting is good. Magic likes interesting people the most. Sophia is a rare kind of interesting, so … are needed. They are not bad …’

“Why does it feel like magic's just trying to make me feel better?" The tiger glanced at Blu, who had been sitting on her shoulder ever since she jumped from the island.

*Chirp* The little parakeet just tilted its head.

“Ah, right, you’re made of magic, so you’re obviously on their side.”

‘There are no sides. Magic does not take sides.’ The particles energetically bounced around as if being offended by that claim.

*Chirp!* Blu agreed with them.

“Mh-hm.” She rolled her eyes. “Anyway, regardless of that, you’re still friends, huh?”

‘Yes’

*Chirp* They definitely were.

“I guess that’s good~.” Sophia let out a chuckle. “I assume our parakeet also told you a lot about my domain, right? After all, it's full of magic for this memory connection thing, and Blu is quite talkative on top of me knowing very well how often a certain bird has been here without me.”

*…* The parakeet instantly turned its head away.

“You thought I wasn’t paying attention, huh?” She stared at the bird for a moment before focusing on the floating particles in front of her again. “Right?”

‘Yes’ They moved up and down. ‘Blu told us a lot. We also learned from others. Explored.’

“So how is it?” Sophia looked rather excited to hear their opinion. “Don’t call it interesting, though! I’ll become sad!”

‘…’ The particles just formed into dots and stopped moving for a second. ‘Interesting is a good word. Interesting, yes. Very different. Many powerful beings. No rules. Dangerous?’

“We are having some split opinion, huh?”

‘No’ The particles moved from side to side again.

“Well, I guess not then…?” The blonde looked confused because she clearly was reading a few contradictory things. “Also, there aren't no rules. I have one important rule.”

‘Yes, Blu told us. Using magic to hurt others is forbidden, and magic will help if someone tries to hurt others in other ways. Good rule. Magic approves.

“I like the sound of that!” She happily clapped her hands. “I’m glad you approve!”

‘Is it enough? Mira gave us a lot of rules. Many of them. Important ones.’

“Are all of them really important?” Sophia stared at the floating letters. “I obviously don’t know all of them, but I don't allow the usage of magic in a way that others can get seriously hurt as an overarching rule. How much of Mira’s rules does that one alone already cover in one way or another?”

‘We follow your intent behind it. That means many. There are still a lot of potential issues.’

“Issues that could get people hurt if they don’t want to?”

‘No’ The particles didn’t hesitate there.

“That’s good enough for me.” She smiled at them. “For now, at least. If or when my domain grows, I can still tune it.”

‘True’

“On the other hand, did Blu also tell you all about how much fun it is when not held back by rules and limitations?”

*Chirp! Chirp!* The parakeet in question suddenly got quite excited.

‘We learned about that. We also watched you and your friends. The elder dragon of water who moved here, too. It is intriguing.’

“Just what I wanted to hear!” The tiger’s smile got even brighter.

*Chirp!* Blu felt the same.

“So it’s okay for you that I transported so much magic into my domain?”

‘Much?’ The particles stopped moving for a second. ‘This is not much. Not at all. Barely anything.’

“Hah.” She wasn’t sure how to feel about that. “Does that mean I can keep going with that technique to get stronger and improve my domain?”

‘We don’t have an issue with it.’

“Let’s go!” The good news just kept coming. “I look forward to creating more amazing and fun things in my biome with your help! I hope you'll also enjoy letting loose in here~!”

‘We look forward to witnessing your continued creativity.'

Afterward, Sophia just kept going as there were still many things she wanted to know, not to mention that she hadn't even gotten to the reason why she had been amassing so much raw magic without using it yet.
