Chapter 123: Long-Hidden Truth
It took two hours for Titan Crest Entertainment to come up with answers—made-up reasons that could explain the loopholes that Aren had exploited.
However, as soon as they put them out, Neil’s secretary rushed in and approached Neil.
"Sir, we have a big problem!"
Neil shot him an annoyed glare. "What is it now?"
He has been bringing terrible news one after another.
What was it this time?
"Sun News has organized a press conference, and it’s live."
Neil’s eyes widened in apprehension, feeling a bad premonition in his heart.
"What are they planning now?"
He immediately opened his phone, only to find that the press conference was already trending on the top.
The title had attracted all the viewers to it.
Even though they had posted answers to Aren’s questions, no one was interested in them. It wasn’t even getting any attention.
All because the press conference featured shocking news.
’Aren Frost’s father rescued | Listen to what he has to say.’
Neil hurriedly opened the live press conference on his phone, taking note of the individuals present.
Ember Sunburn.
Aren Frost.
A thin, malnourished, trembling, bruised man with an unkempt beard and tattered clothes. His eyes were full of fear. He was Aren’s adoptive father and maternal uncle, Harold Blake.
Lastly, a muscular man with short brown hair tied with a rope.
As soon as Neil saw him, his pupils shrunk to pin size.
"H-How is he there? How did they find him?"
Seeing her father’s reaction, Iris was perplexed. She had never seen him react so strongly to anything.
Curious, she nervously asked, "Who, Father? Who are you talking about?"
However, Neil didn’t even spare her a glance, his nervous gaze stuck to the phone screen. He felt as if he were going to be butchered like a pig in a few minutes.
He was sweating profusely as reporters asked questions in the press conference.
"Mr. Blake, were you really kidnapped by Titan Crest Entertainment?"
To everyone’s surprise, the malnourished man shook his head weakly.
"I-I don’t know," he said, his voice trembling, his eyes filled with fear as he glanced to his right. "I just know that I was suddenly kidnapped by this man."
"Then how were you rescued?" Another reporter asked.
"Some men in black suits barged into the basement in which this man was holding me hostage. I was later told they were bodyguards of the Sun group. I’m thankful that I was rescued in time."
"Can you tell us how you were treated while you were being held hostage?"
"I-I was beaten almost every day. I-I was given only milk porridge as food, and that too once a day. And—and..." Tears streamed down his cheeks as his voice choked, causing him to sob.
Aren got up and hugged him, patting his back to calm him down. Multiple flashes of cameras captured that moment.
After a short while, as his father calmed down, Aren spoke into the mic:
"Please don’t ask my father any more questions. He is in a fragile mental state. You are free to ask the kidnapper any questions."
One reporter stood up and asked, "Really? Will he answer our questions?"
Aren nodded. "Yes. He is eager to speak the truth. You can even ask him the reason yourself."
The reporter nodded and turned his gaze to the short-haired man. "Sir, will you tell us your name?"
The brown-haired man, tied up with ropes, leaned forward into the mic and answered: "Nathan Rave."
The flashes painted his face white as the clicks resounded from cameras.
"Then, Sir Nathan. Did you kidnap Mr. Blake on the orders of Titan Crest Entertainment?"
Most of the reporters expected a positive answer. After all, this press conference was organized by Sun News.
Everyone knew they were standing on the opposite side of Titan Crest Entertainment.
Their goal was to frame Titan Crest Entertainment, not to redeem it.
Only if Nathan accepted that he was from Titan Crest Entertainment could they prove that Titan Crest Entertainment was the mastermind behind the kidnapping.
However, contrary to their expectations, Nathan shook his head.
"No," he said, "I did not kidnap Mr. Blake on the orders of Titan Crest Entertainment."
"What??"
All the reporters were taken aback by his announcement, looking at each other while also keeping an eye on Aren’s and Ember’s expressions.
However, both of their expressions remained calm, telling the reporters that this answer was within their expectations.
"However," he continued, "I used to work as a bodyguard for the chairman of Titan Crest Entertainment a few years ago."
The reporters were stunned and confused at the same time. They couldn’t infer what he was trying to imply with those statements.
The reporter asked, "Then, why did you kidnap Mr. Blake?"
This was the most important question. If Titan Crest Entertainment wasn’t behind the kidnapping, then why even kidnap Aren’s father?
And what about those threat calls Aren’s mother claimed they were getting?
For the answer, everyone looked at Nathan, the man tied in ropes.
"I kidnapped him for this very moment," he said, his eyes shining with victory. "I needed this stage to reveal the truth I have been hiding with me for all these years."
"Will you... listen to the dangerous secret I’m hiding about Neil Valcourt, the chairman of Titan Crest Entertainment?"
The reporter gulped and nodded. "Please tell us."
"Then sit down," Nathan smiled. "It will be a long story."
The reporter sat back down and then stared at Nathan alongside the numerous reporters with hungry gazes.
Neil, too, was staring at the screen displaying Nathan’s face; however, his eyes weren’t hungry or curious; they were full of fear.
He knew he couldn’t let the world find out what Nathan was about to reveal; however, he was powerless to do anything at the same time.
His hands turned sweaty, his mind going haywire.
Nathan shouldn’t even be here according to him.
How did Ember even find him?
Only one person knew his whereabouts, and that person is supposed to be dead.
After all, he himself had killed him.
And that person was his dead friend—Aren Frost!
Other than him, no one should even know about Nathan’s existence, much less his whereabouts or how to contact him.
So how was this happening?
And to his dread, Nathan had already begun speaking.
"I...
