Chapter 101: Dawn of Conquest

Instantly after issuing the command, Ulric felt his back twitch slightly. Two protrusions extended outward, forming wings that stretched over two and a half meters on each side.

A wave of dark energy shot out to cover them. This time, it wasn’t pure darkness. It was laced with something else, its aura instantly reminding him of the vision. He breathed, "Asura’s energy."

Soon the dark shifted into a glimmering red, encasing the newly formed wings.

The entire process took barely a few seconds. As he felt it unfold, his brows arched slightly.

He had expected pain, but it had all felt completely natural. The only evidence of their presence was the massive hole torn through the back of his robe.

Amber and Lyra, still clutched tightly in his grasp, were even more stunned. They watched two massive blood-red wings tear free from his back. Their edges gleamed with a deathly sharp aura, coated in a mystical energy that sent chills racing down their spines.

Dozens of questions flooded their minds, all converging into one: How? Just how?

They knew his secrets were endless, but seeing him summon a pair of wings so effortlessly left them frozen in shock.

Were they conjured by a skill? A bloodline? Whatever it was, it had to be high-ranked. They gulped, staring at how intricately curved and powerful the wings looked.

Before their thoughts could spiral further, the wings unfurled. With a single powerful flap, their figures shot skyward, tearing terrified squeals from their throats.

The ground fell away rapidly beneath them. Terror flared for a split second, then fizzled out just as fast.

Fear morphed into curiosity, then exploded into pure excitement. Humans could only soar freely through the air once they reached A-rank.

Yet here they were, doing exactly that. The realization made them relish the experience even more.

As Ulric shot forward, a wide smile spread across his face before it nearly vanished again.

Ever since he had seen the new innate skill, Blood Death Wings, he had been dying to test it. The only thing holding him back was the assumption that he would need plenty of practice before he could truly soar.

He had been pleasantly mistaken. The moment the wings unfurled, the connection felt undeniable, almost as natural as his own two hands.

Even better was the speed. Each flap sent him streaking through the air at nearly twice the speed he achieved while sprinting on the ground.

It almost felt too good to be true. Which, in a way, it was. He could maintain that blistering speed for about a hundred meters above the ground.

But the moment he tried to climb higher, a crushing gravitational pressure bore down on him, sharply limiting how far he could ascend.

Given how stubborn he was, he would have continued rising anyway, letting the force temper his body rather than restrict him.

But with Amber and Lyra in his arms, he decided against it. Still, it didn’t take anything away from the thrill.

Feeling the wind rush across their faces as their figures blurred through the sky brought wide smiles to all three of them.

When he neared the city gates, Ulric paused for a moment. He gazed into the distance where the darkness was slowly retreating. A golden orb rose in its place, spilling rays of diluted gold across the wasteland in a mesmerizing sight.

The view drew Amber and Lyra’s attention as well. They stared in silence for a moment.

Before long, Amber reached out her hand almost instinctively, as if trying to grasp the rising sun. She exhaled, lost in a trance.

"It’s beautiful," she finally muttered.

Lyra nodded in agreement beside her, her silvery-white hair fluttering wildly in the wind as she basked in the golden rays. A flash of insight crossed her eyes as she glanced at the grin on Ulric’s face.

Was this why he sought power? So he could grow strong enough to freely pursue whatever his heart desired?

Lyra mused over the thought briefly before discarding it. It didn’t matter now. Everything else lost meaning as she sank fully into the moment, treasuring it.

Ulric tore his gaze away only after several minutes had passed. Moments like this were exactly what fueled his hunger for strength, so he could explore the realm without restraint.

Exhaling quietly, he dove toward the ground. His wings flapped gently to soften the landing until his feet touched down smoothly.

The city walls extended well over a hundred meters high, which meant he couldn’t simply fly over the city as he would have liked.

But it made little difference. He sprinted forward easily, shadow teleporting past the gate guards before they could even register their presence. He tore through the streets and rushed straight into the Greyson residence, returning to his chambers.

Once inside, he set both women down on the ground. A murmur slipped past his lips.

"Well, that was fun."

Amber and Lyra stood frozen for a moment, still reeling from everything that had just happened. It had all occurred far too quickly for them to fully process.

But as they snapped out of their daze, their faces lit up with a mix of emotions. They pressed closer to Ulric, eyes gleaming with clear desire.

Only to halt when a knock echoed from the door, souring their expressions instantly.

Smiling faintly, Ulric grabbed them both tightly and whispered something into their ears. Their faces flushed furiously as his words echoed repeatedly in their minds while he turned to leave.

Even without opening the door, he already knew who stood outside. When he pulled it open, he simply nodded in confirmation upon seeing Rysten’s frame. He had already sensed him through his spiritual field.

"Lord..." Rysten muttered as the door swung open. The rest of his words died in his throat.

Even without Ulric unleashing his presence, the sheer force radiating from him and the way the air felt around his body made it obvious, his strength had grown massively. Just as he had promised.

The realization made Rysten gulp audibly before he forced out the rest of the words.

"The leaders of the clans and houses ready to swear their allegiance are already gathered."

"I see," Ulric muttered, already heading toward the grand hall with Rysten trailing behind him. A faint smile stretched across his face.

"It’s time."
