I, Who Came From the Abyss, Will Save Humanity Again Today

Chapter 65

Chapter 65: Raging Wildfire (Part 3)

***

“Edward, stop running!”

With an angry shout, I pointed my delicate fingers at him, and sharp ice flew over the city guards’ heads, whistling as it shot towards Edward.

Bang!

The ice shard directly hit the axle of the horned carriage, causing the massive compartment to collapse with a noise that startled the handsome white horned horse. It neighed and ran away, dragging only half of the remaining carriage.

Edward was shocked and turned to hide behind the remaining half of the carriage. Just as he took a step, a second ice shard flew at lightning speed, piercing a hole through his thigh.

“Ahh——!!”

Edward screamed in agony as he fell to the ground, crawling and leaving a dark red trail of blood. By now he was terrified to the extreme, crying out miserably: “City guards! Protect me! City guards!”

“His Highness is injured!”

“Quick, let’s save him!”

Some soldiers positioned at the rear of the formation ran towards him, while the vast majority stationed at the front had no idea what was happening.

Without their leader’s command, the city guards were now like headless flies. They looked at their comrades moaning on the ground, then at me standing on the ice pillar. To them, I was an unbeatable enemy, and the fighting spirit in their eyes was gradually fading.

The freezing cold of the icy world turned their faces blue, with frost even forming on their eyelashes, their trembling hands barely able to hold their swords. On the other side of the formation, Lafayette led his guards in a row, clashing with the soldiers. Blue light flashed from their palms occasionally, as ice spikes emerged from the ground like bamboo shoots after rain. As fierce sword lights flashed, countless thick, warm blood flowed freely in the snow.

Compared to the brutal situation over there, my side was much more merciful. Although there were moans everywhere, everyone was still alive.

Looking around, scanning the chaotic city guards below, I began searching for Valarr’s figure.

Voices kept coming from all around.

“What are you all standing there for… attack…”

“She… she’s alone… we still have, still have hundreds of brothers…”

“But she’s standing so high…”

“Crossbows, crossbows! Shoot her!”

After all the shouting, no one dared to actually make a move.

Just when I thought Edward’s defeat was certain and was about to call for the city guards to surrender, suddenly, I saw a figure quickly weaving through the crowd, approaching Lafayette’s position.

It was the Gold Mask.

I had almost forgotten about him!

That guy was an assassin, who had somehow quietly blended into the crowd, and now approaching Lafayette, obviously planning a sneak attack. I couldn’t let him succeed!

I quickly jumped down from the ice pillar, but caught sight of a barrel-shaped object flying towards me from the corner of my eye.

My heart jumped, immediately recognizing it, wasn’t this the smoke tube those masked people used?

The same trick won’t work on me twice!

Hum——

The short sickle vibrated slightly as I kicked away a soldier trying to approach me, then jumped up stepping on another soldier’s shoulder, swinging the short sickle to knock away the smoke tube.

The extreme cold mist caused a layer of frost to form on the smoke tube’s surface, and it fell far into the crowd, going silent.

Whoosh whoosh whoosh——

Countless arrows shot at me from all directions to the west, and my eyes sharpened.

Not the city guards, who?

“Peipei, there are assassins!”

Lafayette shouted to me after cutting down a soldier with his sword.

Swoosh!

I twisted my body in mid-air, rotating halfway, white frost mist swirled around me like a small tornado, freezing the incoming arrows before blowing them away, then my body began to fall.

At the same time, I saw not just one black-robed assassin hidden among the city guards, who were now reloading their light crossbows.

These people were skilled at concealment, and with the current battlefield situation, I had carelessly failed to notice them… When did they arrive? Or were they mixed in with the city guards’ formation from the very beginning, and I just hadn’t discovered them?

Never mind, I can’t worry about them right now.

Gold Mask moved very quickly, instantly closing half the distance to Lafayette. He took off his black robe, revealing leather armor similar to the city guards’ style, then pulled out a silver short sword from his chest, continuing to approach inconspicuously.

“Lafayette, be careful!”

After punching away a soldier, I shouted towards that direction, but my voice was too small and completely drowned out by the killing cries on the field. Lafayette was completely unaware, and seeing several more black-robed assassins pass through the crowd about to join Gold Mask, I became anxious. I gathered ice mist again to force back the surrounding soldiers and bent my knees to jump, but unexpectedly another smoke tube was thrown silently above my head.

Damn it!

I swung the short sickle in my hand, using the back of the blade to knock the smoke tube aside. At this moment, Valarr finally burst out from the crowd, raising his cleaver high, bringing the sound of wind as he chopped towards me.

I glared at Valarr, who was clearly trying to stop me at the cost of his life, feeling furious in my heart.

Don’t think you can hold me back!

Bang!

Ice mist surged from my palm instantly sweeping across the battlefield. Valarr quickly retreated with the wind force, while I jumped high, drawing a brilliant blue Milky Way in the air as I flew rapidly towards Lafayette’s position.

Whoosh whoosh——

Avoiding two crossbow bolts, I raised the ice short sickle high in my hand.

“How dare you attack!”

A sharp cry rang out, Gold Mask was immediately alerted, giving up the sneak attack and turning to face me.

Clang——!

“Ya——!!!”

The force as heavy as a thousand tons pressed down, Gold Mask couldn’t resist at all. The icy hurricane blew his collar fluttering loudly, he stumbled back two steps and fell to the ground, then rolled with the momentum. I took the chance to chase up two steps, but was suddenly surrounded by four assassins.

“Get out of my way!”

Pivoting on my feet, I delivered a whip kick that struck an assassin’s shoulder. With a “crack” of breaking bones, this kick directly broke his arm, sending his figure flying back instantly.

Then I retracted my foot, bent down, dodged the attack from the assassin on the right, and swung my arm in a circle.

The ice short sickle danced a perfect arc at my side, its glinting blade easily tearing through leather armor, slicing across one assassin’s chest before cleaving into another assassin’s cheek.

Fresh blood crystallized into beads, splashing onto my body and face, sliding down my skirt hem to roll into the snow. As screams rang out, my movements didn’t stop. The blade turned as I swung my arm upward, the short sickle leaving my hand to spin towards the last assassin in my sight.

With a “thud” it planted into his right chest, his figure falling immediately.

This series of movements took just the blink of an eye. Then my gaze quickly swept over Lafayette’s shocked face, not greeting him as I gathered strength in my feet again.

Moon Step!

Whoosh——

The next moment, my body was already in front of Gold Mask. Blue light flashed in my right hand as a new ice short sickle appeared firmly in my grip, chopping down with force towards Gold Mask who had barely gotten up.

Clang!

It clashed with the short sword in his hand.

Crack.

Gold Mask was pressed down by me, his short sword’s blade unable to withstand the collision as a crack instantly appeared. I followed up with two more successive chops, Gold Mask awkwardly parrying as he continuously retreated, frost appearing on his mask. On the third chop, the short sword broke into two pieces.

The sickle’s momentum didn’t decrease as it cut towards his face.

Clang——

The mask shattered.

The broken metal fell to the ground, revealing a severely burned face.

That face looked like it had been through flames, with wrinkled red skin and exposed muscle parts that seemed to be slightly writhing. The left eye’s lid was completely fused shut, clearly blind. The ugly appearance made me pause slightly.

But then he opened his mouth and shouted at something behind me: “Valarr! What are you waiting for!”

My heart moved and I immediately looked back. On the red-stained snow behind me, Valarr raised his cleaver high and chopped down at Lafayette.

Lafayette hastily parried with a clang as sparks flew, and both men stepped back. Then I heard him shout: “Focus on your fight, I can handle this!”

It was clearly meant for me.

The next moment, wind whistled by my ear as the Gold Mask… no, Scarred Face pulled out another short sword from his chest and stabbed towards my waist.

Clang!

I parried his attack with the short sickle and kicked towards his groin, but unexpectedly he dodged with a sidestep, flourishing his short sword before swinging it at me again.

Then I’ll just break your sword again!

Hiss hiss——

White mist rose high from the ice short sickle’s blade like steam, the freezing cold air spreading out. Scarred Face unconsciously squinted his only eye.

Suddenly, with a “whoosh”, scarlet flames arose from the short sword, trailing burning flames as it clashed with the ice short sickle.

Bang!!

Turbulent air swept past my ears as black hair flew wildly.
