Chapter 64
Chapter 64: Raging Wildfire (Part 2)
***
The dying sun was setting.
Beneath the clouds, what was falling was the last remnant of light before nightfall. Though dim, that dusky yellow light showered down——
Illuminating the magnificent scenery of pure white snow brilliantly.
From the top of the ruined tower, faint sounds of angry shouts could be heard.
“What are… they doing… hundreds of people… little girl… gone mad…”
“…we… Count… let’s fight…”
“Eat them…”
The voices were intermittent, almost completely drowned out by the charging footsteps and shouts of the city guards, making it unclear whether it was Lafayette or someone else speaking, but… that didn’t matter anymore.
At this moment, my eyes only saw the icy white mist swirling around me, and the soldiers pressing towards me like a mountain.
“Ahh——!!”
The city guards’ screams split the clouds and pierced stone. As the soldiers advanced forward, the rear half gradually separated from the formation, trying to outflank my position by moving to the left. Seeing this, I suddenly smiled.
This kind of army versus army tactics was meaningless in my eyes.
Continuing to walk forward slowly, the distance between the city guards and me kept shrinking. The air temperature was dropping rapidly, seeming to freeze even the fine snow floating in the air.
Crack, crack.
Accompanied by terrible breaking ice sounds, countless huge ice blocks quickly gathered above the soldiers, colliding and crushing together into one mass, taking no time to condense into a massive floating ice mountain.
Perhaps sensing the shadow overhead, the city guard commander at the heavily loaded front suddenly looked up, his eyes widening abruptly.
“Hold the formation——!”
The next instant, the ice mountain exploded.
BOOM——
“Wuah——!!”
“Ugh…”
The shattered ice shards fell like a torrential rain, countless city guards were struck by ice blocks and lost balance, falling down, then trampled by companions who couldn’t dodge in time, instantly disrupting the charging formation.
Perhaps having never encountered an enemy like me before, or maybe the soldiers originally had reservations about pointing their swords at a young girl like me, not knowing how to handle such a situation, the formation clearly became chaotic, the momentum of the charge faltering.
At the critical moment, the city guard commander shouted: “Continue charging with me, or be treated as deserters!”
He wore a resolute expression, his eyes fixed firmly on me.
I let out a light sigh.
Actually, I only wanted to kill Edward alone… perhaps adding Valarr, but didn’t want to drag these city guards into it, after all they were just following orders. But looking at the current situation, communication… was clearly impossible now.
They wouldn’t let me deal with Edward, after all he was still the crown prince of the Valen Empire, the object of the city guards’ loyalty, so this battle was unavoidable.
The military force was getting closer, now less than 20 meters away from me. I could even see the slightly hesitant expressions on the faces of the soldiers in the front ranks.
Fine then. If you want to fight, I’ll just have to frighten you with force first.
So I raised my left hand.
BANG!!
Surging ice mist burst out from my palm in a fan shape, gradually spreading across the entire battlefield. The massive wind force picked up snow from the ground, blowing the front rank soldiers into disarray, while the incoming ice mist caused frost to form on their bodies, making movement difficult.
The air temperature continued to drop. The soldiers’ teeth chattered, their leather armor no longer sufficient to shield them from the invasion of the cold air. The closer they were to me, the more violently their bodies shook.
Some people fell, while the rest continued to advance, the distance from me shortened to less than 10 meters.
The next moment, I bent my knees and leaped high into the air, my foot touching an ice platform, accompanied by howling fierce winds, I raised the short scythe in my hand high and crashed into the city guard formation.
Bang! Bang!
The moment I landed, I directly struck the chests of two front rank soldiers with my knees. The tremendous force sent them flying backwards immediately, then crashing into the people behind them, affecting even more people in the rear positions. This impact directly created a gap in the formation.
“Hah——!!”
The city guard commander brought down his sword towards me. I narrowed my eyes.
Perfect timing, I was planning to take you down first anyway.
Slightly shifting my body to dodge his slash, the short scythe in my hand “hissed” as it cried out, drawing up a long white smoke as it swung downward.
Puff.
The blade deeply pierced his shoulder.
“Ah!!”
The commander let out a scream, raising his hand to grab the scythe blade. Blood immediately gushed from his palm like a fountain, yet he refused to let go. At the same time, he raised the sword in his right hand again, his bloodshot eyes still fixed on me.
But the sword couldn’t swing down.
Frost spread from his wound, until half his body was enveloped in ice cold. White frost crawled up the side of his face, his previously clean skin quickly turning purple — he could no longer move.
Then I suddenly exerted force with my hand, pulling the short scythe out along with frozen blood fragments and hard flesh. Three fingers on the commander’s left hand that had been gripping the short scythe broke off.
“Heh heh… ugh!”
The commander’s face showed an expression of pain. Because half his face was frozen stiff, he couldn’t even make a sound.
“Sir Milton!”
Some soldiers cried out in anguish. I raised my foot and kicked the commander flying far away. Hearing the wind sound from my side, I dodged the incoming sword with a flash, turned to strike the soldier’s upper arm. The splashing blood froze the moment it left the body. That soldier was quickly stiffened by the cold penetrating his body, lost consciousness, and fell straight to the ground.
I dodged again, avoiding another soldier’s thrust from behind, swung the short scythe to strike his side abdomen, raised my foot to kick away the soldier on the right. Then more and more soldiers swarmed in. Perhaps because I had hurt their commander, there was no more hesitation in their eyes. Each showed fierce expressions, and although they were already frozen with frost covering their hair and eyebrows, they still shivered as they raised their swords at me.
I was getting a bit impatient.
Bang!
Ice pillars erupted from beneath my feet. My petite body leaped up again, waving my small hand in mid-air.
Large amounts of ice mist surged towards the soldiers below. In an instant, cold winds arose, hair blown to cover my cheeks. As wails sounded from below, my ears twitched, hearing the vibration of bowstrings.
Swoosh——
An arrow flew towards me.
Clang!
Quickly swinging the short scythe to deflect it, I turned my head following the direction, seeing Valarr standing at the rear of the formation holding a crossbow.
“Valarr!”
I haven’t even had the chance to find you yet, and you dare to show yourself. Then I’ll break your legs first.
Bang——
Stepping on an ice platform to change direction, I dove towards him.
Who knew that Valarr, seeing the situation was unfavorable, actually used Moon Step to slip away, then turned and ran towards the distance without looking back.
…Such a coward!
I did a flip and landed on the ground, soldiers immediately surrounding me again.
“How dare you do this to our commander——”
They struck their chest plates with their swords, then someone took the lead and started shouting.
“Frost Moon——!”
“Roar roar!”
“Frost Moon——!”
“Roar roar!”
The encirclement was continuously being compressed, front rank soldiers pointing their sword tips at me, their faces showing slight excitement.
Look at my extreme irritation.
“Get lost!”
A light wind rose from beneath my feet. The next moment, my eyes flashed with blue light, black hair dancing wildly.
Bang——
Ice mist erupted from around me like a hugely powerful bomb, rapidly spreading.
Countless ice crystals and snowflakes danced as they flew towards the enemy. Soldiers in closer positions were completely enveloped in the white mist. They fell crying out in pain, soon unable to move. While people in more distant positions stared blankly at their companions lying all over the ground, standing there looking at each other in dismay, none daring to step forward anymore.
Swoosh——
I slightly tilted my head as an arrow grazed past my ear, hitting the soldier behind me. Looking to the side, I found Valarr who had run back again.
He still wore that metal mask on his face. Seeing that I had noticed him, he immediately retreated behind the soldiers again, not daring to clash with me head-on, wanting to hide and find another chance to ambush.
To hell with you.
I lifted my foot to walk in his direction, when suddenly there was a commotion from the side rear.
My heart jumped, immediately turning to look, but found the city guards’ tall stature completely blocked my view, couldn’t see anything at all.
“……”
Feeling annoyed, an ice pillar slowly rose 3 meters high beneath my feet. I stood on top of it, seeing a stern-faced black-haired man who had somehow already come down from the high tower, now leading over 30 leather-armored and coated guards, attacking from the rear.
“Lafayette!”
Lafayette pulled his sword flashing with frosty snow from a soldier’s chest, raised his head to exchange a glance with me: “Peipei, go catch Edward!”
Edward…
Edward had already run to the horned carriage. His expression was panicked, probably seeing the situation was unfavorable, preparing to escape.
