Chapter 206: Burn a Path
Arthur faced forward again.
The wolves were already closing in, drawn by the energy gathering around him. Their growls grew louder, more aggressive, as if they sensed the threat but couldn’t stop themselves from charging.
Arthur exhaled once.
Then he let it go.
The spear shot forward.
For a split second..
There was no sound.
Just a blur of fire and wind tearing through the space ahead.
Then..
Everything exploded.
The impact ripped through the wolves like they were nothing. Fire spread outward in a violent surge, wind carrying it further, faster, turning the entire front line into a storm of heat and force.
The ground tore open.
Bodies were thrown.
Some didn’t even get that far as they were erased where they stood.
The explosion followed a heartbeat later, loud enough to shake the air around them. The force pushed back everything in its path, clearing a wide stretch in front of the group.
When it settled.. there was nothing left in that line.
Just scorched ground.
Ash.
And broken remains scattered where the wolves had been.
Torren slowly lowered his shield, staring ahead.
"...Yeah, no. That’s crazy."
Selene blinked once, then let out a breath she didn’t realize she was holding.
"...He just wiped them."
Althea looked at Arthur, her expression unreadable for a moment.
"...That control..."
Even Nox, who rarely reacted openly, just shook her head.
"...Ridiculous."
Ryn didn’t speak.
But he understood that Arthur wasn’t someone you tried to measure anymore.
You just accepted it.
Arthur didn’t waste time admiring the effect of the skill.
As his hand moved again, pulling wind forward. This time, it wasn’t for attack.
A strong gust swept through the burning path, forcing the flames to part just enough to create a clear line through the destruction.
"Go!" he called.
That snapped them into motion.
There was no hesitation this time.
Ryn moved first as he spoke.
"Move!"
Torren followed right behind, still glancing back once.
"You better not die back there!"
Arthur smirked.
"I’ll try not to disappoint you."
Selene passed him next, already scanning ahead.
"Catch up fast."
"I always do."
Althea paused for just a second longer than the others.
"...Don’t overdo it."
Arthur met her eyes briefly.
"I know my limits."
She didn’t look convinced.
But she moved.
Nox was the last to pass him, stopping just beside him for a moment.
"...You’re insane."
Arthur grinned.
"Not news."
Then she was gone too.
The path began to close almost immediately.
Wolves that survived at the edges started pushing in again, drawn even more by the explosion. Their howls rose louder, more frantic.
Arthur turned back to face them.
Alone now.
He rolled his shoulder once.
"...Alright then."
The first wolf lunged.
He stepped forward instead of back.
Wind formed in his hand again.
Fire followed.
Smaller this time... but faster as he released it point blank.
The spear tore through the wolf and didn’t stop, hitting two more behind it before exploding.
The force pushed the rest back just enough.
Arthur let out a short breath.
Good. Still stable.
Another came from the side.
He pivoted and released again.
This time, he didn’t wait for a full charge.
He shaped it quicker, looser, but still strong enough.
Boom.
Another gap.
His grin widened.
"...Yeah, this works."
Ahead of Arthur, the group didn’t slow down.
They couldn’t.
Even as they ran, they could still feel it.
The ground trembled faintly.
The air carried the sound as another explosion echoed behind them.
Then another.
Torren let out a low whistle as he ran.
"He’s doing it again."
Selene didn’t look back.
"Focus."
But even she couldn’t ignore it.
Each blast sounded like it was right behind them.
Althea glanced back once.
Just once.
Fire lit the distance.
"...He’s holding them."
Ryn nodded.
"Then we don’t waste it."
Nox, moving ahead, spoke without turning.
"Path is clear. No immediate threats."
"Good," Ryn replied.
"Keep moving."
They pushed forward, deeper into the dungeon, leaving behind the scorched battlefield.
The further they got, the less wolves they saw.
It was working.
The noise.
The explosions.
Everything was pulling the monsters toward Arthur instead.
Torren shook his head slightly.
"I’m starting to feel bad for them."
Selene almost smiled.
"Right...."
Back there, Arthur kept moving.
He wasn’t retreating, but he wasn’t advancing too far either.
Just holding the line.
Each time the wolves gathered too much..
He fired.
Another spear.
Another explosion.
The battlefield was already ruined, but he didn’t care.
Cracks spread across the ground, scorched marks layering over each other as the fight dragged on.
His breathing was steady.
Not rushed or strained.
And his eyes remained alive, focused and sharp.
"This is good".. he muttered as he watched another wave come.
Arthur lifted his hand again.
Formed the spear faster this time.
Released.
The explosion followed instantly, tearing through the front line.
And with all the kills.. It came again again.
The already familiar notification.. yet he could help it as his lips curled into a grin.
"...There it is."
The system responded.
Again.
And again.
Notifications stacked rapidly.
Intent Points rising with every kill.
With every decisive strike.
With every moment he held his ground against numbers that should have overwhelmed him.
Arthur laughed under his breath.
"...Keep coming."
There was no fear in him now.
No hesitation.
Just that growing instinct.
That push.
The same feeling that had pushed him to become as strong as he was now.
Another wolf leaped toward him.
He didn’t even look.
A spear formed in his hand and fired instantly.
It dropped before it reached him.
Explosion.
Another.
And another.
Each one carving deeper into the battlefield.
Each one leaving marks that wouldn’t fade easily.
The dungeon itself felt it.
But Arthur didn’t care.
Right now..
He was enjoying it.
And in the middle of the fire, the wind, and the constant explosions..
His grin didn’t fade..
