VRMMO: World's First Glyphborne

Chapter 194: What an Enchanting Accessory

Setting up the two rituals took a little time. Enough time for Belladonna to enchant everyone’s coin pouch, including her own, with the expanded space enchantment.

They weren’t exactly ’bottomless’ and to be honest, it was unlikely that her own bag was actually bottomless too. They were simply a portable version of the Tower of Mystica. Putting a large space into a small container, with an extra enchantment for easy access to the contents.

However the size of the space was, for the most part, not based on the actual enchantment itself but on the level of mana that she supplied into it. Which meant that the bags were at the capacity of what she could achieve with a second level source, although it left it open to increasing the size as she grew stronger.

The other limiting factor was the material itself. Much like electricity, mana was restricted by the material it was flowing through. Put too little energy into a strong material, and you would hardly get a reaction.

Put too much energy into a weak enough material, and it would explode, combust or simply rapidly degrade. That was partly the reason why scrolls were one use, and why they required special paper and ink to create them.

The leather of their pouches wasn’t taken from any magical beast. She wasn’t sure exactly what it was made of, but it was not something that had a source, that was for sure. So the leather was not primed to take too much energy.

It was fine as she was now, but say she did come back as a third level source user, she could easily turn the pouches into bonfires by forcing mana into them that the material couldn’t withstand.

Such was the basics of enchanting. High level enchantments couldn’t just be achieved with the right runes. It had to have expensive, high level materials and extremely skilled, high level enchanters.

It was a system that naturally sorted everyone out into their skill levels and stopped someone from trying to push above their weight. Although some had to learn these lessons the hard way, ending up ruining or destroying certain materials in the process.

But creating these pouches reignited Belladonna’s passions as a Glyphborne and put into perspective all the wasted potential she had created with her class. Enchanting her body was still a wonderful idea when it came to diversifying her talents and giving her more options in battle.

Enchanting items, on the other hand, was an even better vocation. Not only could she empower her friends, and herself. But she could send them to Midas to be sold, creating a constant stream of money for other experiments.

And she really loved money. It was great.

Plus if she could find the right materials in the real world... She could step up her power level even more. And if she couldn’t find it, Well... it sounded like it would soon be arriving on her doorstep, and this invasion of monsters would become their ultimate power-up.

That final point was something that Revenant considered too, thinking on it even more that Belladonna.

"There is one thing I don’t understand..." A voice suddenly came from behind Revenant, causing him to flinch slightly in fear as he whipped his head around. Saige was standing behind him, staring at Belladonna pensively as she was lost in her thoughts.

Saige pulled his eyes away from his sister, and glared down at Revenant with suspicion as he continued,

"If you say I’m a necromancer in the future, then why aren’t I one right now? Sure, you stole my class or whatever. But I didn’t know that when I was creating my character. So it shouldn’t have influenced my thoughts, right?

So what changed."

Revenant sighed softly, pulling his eyes away from Saige and burying his head in his work, focusing on setting up the ritual for the Dragon’s heart. He had given the instructions to Lilith for her own and let her set it up herself, while he worked.

But working was hard when he could feel Saige’s eyes burning into the back of his head the entire time. Eventually, he muttered out his answer.

"She did."

"Explain." Saige said sternly, narrowing his eyes more.

"When I first arrived back in time, I needed more time to prepare. So I broke into Rift Divers Headquarters and caused a bit of chaos, just to make them push back the release a week. Nothing too big, nothing too important. That’s what I thought.

But how would I know that it then landed on your anniversary."

Saige narrowed his eyes more, before nodding softly in understanding, but let Revenant keep going with his explanation.

"Since you couldn’t attend, you sent her in your place and everything changed. She did her thing, changed the lives of those two over there. Then when it was time for you to come in, you had a different mindset.

Instead of coming in as Reaper of Stars, making something to preserve your reputation..."

"...I made something that I would enjoy playing, and that would support Val." Saige finished his sentence, before smiling in disbelief and shaking his head.

"Damn, it really does feed all the way back there, doesn’t it? You must regret changing the date and losing so much of your knowledge advantage. I would have never done something so reckless."

"I know you wouldn’t have. But I did, and now I need to deal with it. However, even if I did lose my advantage, I feel like I’ve gained an even better one in my butterfly. Besides, it’s not like I am totally helpless. I can still do stuff like this, after all."

Revenant said with a smirk, putting the finishing touches on his ritual circle.

Unlike the stylistic and elegant runes of Belladonna’s carving, his looked twisted and ancient.

Its letters were angular and jagged, as if they had been carved by a claw and hacked into existence without a care for how they looked. If Belladonna had looked over, she would not have recognised any of these glyphs from her book, or even the basis of the language that they used.

However, she had seen something similar to them, it was just that the memory was fuzzy and tainted. These wicked and ancient runes which had a faint, green energy pulsing from them, had some passing resemblances to the runes used in the Blood Ritual that Duke Lucian was currently undergoing.

Their styles of writing were incredibly different, but the same core was there and bore similarities between them despite their clear differences.
