Chapter 192: A Hidden Prize
"- And once you have done all that, you should not just have magic in the real world, but will be on your way to developing a source. But that is the tricky one that will take time."
Belladonna said with a sigh, as she finished explaining everything to her party members, and by everything she meant everything.
She told them about how to force more mana into their system to awaken, how if they bonded with a Brownie enough that it would carry over to the real world. How plants and living material was key to harnessing more mana, and why Figg was further along than the rest of them thanks to his potted plant obsession.
She even told them of her own training with Percy, and how she was developing her abilities differently to her class in game, even if she skipped over the reason as to why that was exactly.
It was good for them to consider that, just because they were one way in Dawd, didn’t mean they had to be the exact same in the real world. Although most had that plan, as it made it easier to fall back on their experience. It was still a viable option.
A few of the details of her story even intrigued Revenant. Whilst they had found out about the importance of greenery in the future, they had done so much later in the timeline and had done so through different means. Having this knowledge now with more people was definitely going to be a boon for humanity.
Everyone stepped back, processing the information in their own ways. After all, it wasn’t just the fact that magic was real that they had to come to terms with. It was the fact that because magic was real, that they had to deal with the doomed fate of humanity coming to pass.
Magic being real meant that Revenant’s story was, that the monsters that were coming to their world were real too. That everything they had done in the ’game’ was real too...
Thankfully they were not evil players, with not much blood on their hands, although there was definitely some. For players who liked to play the villains, and the stories they had heard of people going on murder sprees or carrying out conquests on villages to play out their viking fantasies.
Such news would probably break those people. Or maybe worse, awaken a bloodlust in them, if they were the truly disturbed.
A heavy air hung over them as they turned back to the hoard of treasure that was still glittering at them in all of its luster, but somehow it looked dimmer. Still, if things were real, then they were going to need this money even more than before.
If it was just a game they could steal, rob and kill for gold without a care. Now, not so much. Not unless they were complete psychos.
"So... Now that I’m looking at this properly... I have no idea how we are supposed to get all of this out of here." Lilith said with a laugh as she picked up a handful of coins and tossed them back into the pile one by one.
While Belladonna might have been fine with her Bottomless Bag, and Revenant was no doubt equipped with some storage method of his own. This much money was just far too much for the others.
Looking over them, a lot of their bags were already bulging full, and that wasn’t even considering the small pouches on their hips that were actually for their gold.
Then again, as Belladonna glanced at the Bottomless Bag hanging from her hip, she realised that this really wasn’t as much of a problem as they thought. Sure, she could carry it all out herself. But why bother, when she could instead equip them with their own Bottomless Bags?
She quickly inspected the bag, running her hands over it until she finally found what she was looking for.
On the back there was an embossed pattern, something to make it look nice and add to the style of the bag. But within that embossery there were a few glyphs, carefully woven into the pattern and hidden within it.
When she ran her fingers over them, not only could she feel the shape of them and the specifications of their depth, she could feel the slight hints of mana emanating from those runes.
"I think I can help with that. Give me your gold pouch for a second." Belladonna said, rushing over to Lilith. Although she asked for the pouch, she was already practically pulling it off of the Hellion’s hip.
Once Lilith properly took it off and handed it to her, Belladonna immediately opened it, crouched by the floor and dumped out the contents.
Lilith let out a slight whimper of despair as her recently gathered fortune was scattered and clattered across the ground, but Belladonna had other priorities.
Taking out her crystal nib pen, Belladonna turned the pouch inside out and started to work. She had to be delicate, pushing the leather back with enough force to deform it, but not enough to properly pierce through it.
While she was doing so, the pen constantly pulled at her mana. Drawing it out of her fingers, through the body of the pen and into the crystalline nib, where it condensed into a sparkling purple liquid that acted as the pens ink.
"Future boy, while I work on this, ask Sebbie to separate the Dragons hoard in equal piles of worth, not size. You should be better experienced with Brownies to know how to phrase it, I hope." Belladonna said, not taking her eyes off of her work.
"Sebbie?" Revenant questioned, before sighing and shaking his head, "You named it? You can’t just name everything you find, you know. Names have power here."
"Yeah yeah, whatever. Help now, lecture later. Chop chop, use some of the gold as his offering."
Revenant rolled his eyes at her dismissive attitude, but complied nonetheless. Taking ten gold coins from the pile, he stacked them up and carefully constructed a tight, loophole free request for the even piles.
He had indeed dealt with these creatures, and ones like them, more than enough in his time to know how to construct such a simple request.
A blink of the eye later, the massive hoard of glimmering gold had been sorted into six piles. Each positioned in different points of the room to make the distinction clear.
The main floor of the Dragon’s Lair was not completely empty, however. There were still some scatterings of rare metals, minerals and gemstones, something Earth Dragons loved to collect, as well as one more object.
It blended in with the other minerals at first glance, but a longer and closer look revealed that to just be a clever disguise cooked up by evolution to protect the large egg that sat amongst the minerals.
