Chapter 177: Face-slapping Ego
{Revenant: Tell me what happened, now.}
"Tch." Belladonna clicked her tongue in annoyance at Revenant’s arrogant and demanding message, an action that Duke Lucian mistook for annoyance at the ignorant women and their hateful stares which only made him more mad at them.
Duke Lucian, eager to show his understanding, immediately sent a glare to the latest set of whispering women and growled lowly at them.
"Rid yourselves from my sight, or do you withered hags have nothing better to do than gawk at your superiors and think them beneath you?"
His almost feral growl sent the women scampering away, tears already forming in their eyes both from the insult and the sudden aggression, but most of all from the realisation that they had ruined their chances with him over something so small they couldn’t understand what they did wrong.
Lucian lifted his head in pride, allowing himself a smirk as he subtly glanced at Belladonna, hoping to see a subtle sign of approval. However instead he saw her brow creasing in further annoyance, causing him to quickly turn away and enter a mental spiral of wondering if he had stepped out of place by doing that.
Of course Belladonna’s annoyance was not directed towards Lucian, in fact she didn’t even notice his actions. Instead she was irritated by Revenant as he sent her even more demanding messages, one after the other.
He didn’t even attempt to act like he cared about how she was, or even pretend to make basic human conversation. It was just {Tell me now.} or {What is taking so long?}.
He was like a petulant child, desperate for attention.
After a few seconds of mental calming, as she reminded herself why she was even bothering in the first place, Belladonna let the annoyance melt out of her and leave her face. Which was also misinterpreted by Lucian.
{Belladonna: Do you want a Dragon Undead or not?}
Since he was not going to try to be civil, then she was not going to either. Her blunt message seemed to get the point across rather quick, as the annoying creep immediately replied.
{Revenant: You have it?! Tell me where it is. Come on, hurry up! I have things to do.}
{Belladonna: Say please.}
{Revenant: What?}
{Belladonna: You heard me. Say please. If you want something, you ask properly and you ask nicely. Or was even pre-school too difficult for you?}
{Revenant: ...}
{Belladonna: Then again, if you don’t want it, I can always sell it. I know this wonderful little merchant who can sell anything, or I could even give it to this nice Duke I met. He seems like he would have a lot of uses for every last bit of it.}
{Revenant: Fine! Please may I have part of the dragon? All I need is the heart, you can keep the rest and do whatever you want with it.}
{Belladonna: Oh can I now? Well, how kind of you to allow me to keep what is mine.}
{Revenant: ... }
{Revenant:
So? What’s taking you so long?! Can I have it or not?} {Belladonna: I’ll consider it, since you asked so nicely, and come back to you with the price when I make a final decision}
After sending that message, Belladonna immediately closed the chat window and set him onto silent, just as that annoying prick started to shout into the uncaring void and vent all of his rage into her silent inbox.
A content sigh left her lips as she smiled smugly, enjoying the feeling of smacking his fragile ego right in the face. She could just imagine the tantrum he was having right now, and it was definitely worth it.
There was also the fact that she didn’t actually have the heart yet and didn’t know if she could get it, thus making promising it a stupid idea. But going about it this way instead of explaining that was much more fun.
That left her with Percy’s message, which was shorter than she had hoped, although she didn’t actually realise she had been hoping for anything until she saw that painfully short message.
{Prince of Stars: I’ll explain everything when you wake up.}
For some reason she couldn’t explain, or perhaps could explain but didn’t want to admit to, that simple message made a pit in her stomach.
Belladonna sighed again, her emotions changing so much that Lucian was left absolutely baffled and struggling to figure out what he should do, or what he should stop doing if he was already doing the wrong thing, as Belladonna sent her own reply.
Just a simple {Ok.}
Eventually, after much walking, which had turned into Lucian’s personal hell of confusion emotions, they arrived at the store room in which the remains of the dragon was being kept. By the chaos of the battle, the corpse had already been separated into three sections; Head, body and tail.
There were already a dozen individuals clambering all over the different sections, slowly stripping the Dragon of its scales so that they could get at the juice insides.
Lucian turned to Belladonna, a hint of anxiety in his curious smile as he was constantly analysing her every facial expression in a desperate attempt to act in the right way.
"Now, by rights the tail is yours. You removed it in battle, so you own it. Honestly I am jealous, some of the juiciest meat is in the tail. Of course, I would happily buy it from you if you don’t want it."
Belladonna glanced at the tail, chuckling under her breath. While she was already going to choose to keep the tail for its meat, she could feel cold droplets of saliva dripping onto her shoulder.
Beans’ eyes were locked on the tail as drool dripped from his tongue. Belladonna reached up, wiping his mouth and closing it, before giving Lucian a look that he actually understood, which helped put him at ease.
"Of course, I understand. I wouldn’t want to give it up either. Since I cannot give you what is already yours, Is there anything else you would like? While I cannot give it all, unfortunately, I’m sure we can come to an arrangement."
Belladonna smirked again, holding out her hand, and pointing her palm towards the dragon. The runic circle carved into her palm, the circle that acted as a smaller and much more limited version of [Blood Well] glowed with a crimson energy as she poured mana into it.
Blood flowed from the corpse, snaking through the air slowly and gathered into a small, baseball sized undulating orb that hovered above her outstretched hand.
"Yes, I’m sure we can. Say... Do you have any use for the heart?"
