Chapter 164: The Red Tide
Hanging above the glowing magic circle that was suspended in the air, there was a ball. Just like when the dragon had used the spell, it was constantly drawing material in and gathering it in an ever growing sphere.
However it was not metal this spell was drawing in. Thanks to Belladonna’s changes, in her last moments of sanity before the beast within took charge, she had altered the material that it attracted.
Hanging above Ladiesman217 and the battlefield as a whole, was an undulating sphere made of pure blood. This was the spell now known by the system as [Blood Well].
Every single drop of sanguine that littered the ground, stained armour or dripped off the dragons scales flowed into the air and gathered within this sphere, allowing it to rapidly grow until it was twice as tall as Lilith in its diameter, and still growing.
After all, every individual that died underneath its looming shadow was drained of their blood to feed its unending hunger.
Just as tendrils of blood were feeding the sphere, drawing the blood from the battlefield below, a single tendril sprouted from the sphere and snaked its way across the fields.
It travelled across the same path that Belladonna had bounced, before forcing its way through the gaps of the collapsed farm house. Then, after a few moments of silence amongst the rubble, it exploded once again.
BOOOM!
Belladonna burst out from the rubble, sending splinters of wood the size of javellins flying in all directions, before she once again let out an ear piercing screech. Her body was half destroyed, with one of her arms missing and her torso caved in on one side, giving her a stance like a bent straw.
Her remaining hand wrapped around the wooden stake that had rammed through her heart, the remains of a chair that she had smashed into, and let out a screech of irritation as she ripped it from her chest.
The tendrils of blood flowed into her body through the holes and ruined flesh, which rapidly began to heal. In just a manner of seconds the hole through her heart had stitched itself closed, followed shortly by the gaping wound in her chest.
On the other side of her torso, bones were starting to regrow themselves. Shooting out of the shattered remains like bamboo stalks as muscle fibres wrapped and wove themselves around the budding arm.
With a sickened snap, and a few crunches like you were squeezing a plastic water bottle, Belladonna forced her spine back into place as the blood flowed into her system. Not even having to consume it properly to benefit from its effects.
[Sanguine Essence Consumed. Grievous damage detected, Converting Sanguine Essence into Vital Essence.]
With the combination of her [Blood Frenzy]’s massively increased stats, including that of the Vitality stat, and her body converting blood to vital essence to heal her, it took less than thirty seconds for all of Belladonna’s wounds to be completely healed.
She rolled her shoulder, flexing the fingers of her newly grown hand. Had she had her sanity, Belladonna might have notice that the regrown hand was not like it used to be.
It was paler than she was, as if it was not wrapped in skin and was still made of solid bone. Where the claws on one hand burst through the skin of what used to be her fingers, that was not present on the new hand.
It was not tearing through what used to be, but had grown itself to what it was hidden underneath the torn skin suit her [Blood Frenzy]
still wore over itself. Of course, since she was not sane, and was instead deep within the titular frenzy of her [Blood Frenzy] Belladonna simply smiled wickedly at her new, ’proper’ arm before launching herself forwards.
She tore through the fields, moving so fast that she created a tunnel of wind behind her that was constantly tearing up the area around her moments after she passed by, as if it was desperately trying to catch up to her.
When other players stood in her path, Belladonna didn’t bother to turn or dodge in the slightest. Charging forwards on all fours, she simply swiped her claws and tore them in half for daring to stand in her way.
Their blood spraying across her face was the best reward for their ignorance, before all of the delicious goodness flowed out of them and into the still growing sphere in the air.
At the end of her charge, Belladonna slammed into the Dragon, sending it skidding backwards a few metres. It’s colossal claws digging grooves in the earth, as its indestructible armour shattered and cracked along its torso from where she hit it.
Plenty of players wanted to take advantage of the weakness, but none of them dared move towards the Dragon nor the Baroness of Blood.
In the presence of each other, the two predators let their auras loose without restraint. The bloodlust and natural dominance clashed in the air between them, as they both fought not just to kill but to own. Owning everything in their presence was simply the natural state of an apex predator, and by their very nature, there could only be one of them.
The opportunistic Graceless would simply wait until one died, then slaughter the victor whilst they were still weak. Two bosses for the price of one was their greedy mindset.
The two Apex predators stared each other down, Belladonna licking her lips in sadistic anticipation, whilst the Dragon narrowed its eyes as it steadied its stance once again. After seconds of silence and stillness, they both moved at the same time.
The Dragon spewed out the contents of its engorged throat sack as Belladonna, seemingly anticipating it, stood up straight and thrust out her hand.
A column of red hot molten steel spewed from the Dragons mouth, hissing as it heated the air and scorched the grass where it touched. However when it reached Belladonna, even in her feral form, it was unable to touch even her hand.
It flowed around her, as if it was curling off an invisible force field that surrounded her. One made of pure magnetic force, as her bloodline stirred within her transformed body.
She didn’t even bother to wait for the Dragon to stop, immediately darting forwards. Her bubble of protection letting her cut through the torrent of molten metal without a care, as it splashed off of and flew away to scorch other people.
Bursting out of the metal torrent, Belladonna immediately stopped underneath the Dragon’s head and thrust her hand upwards, slamming her fist into its chin and lifting it off of its feet with the sheer force of her uppercut.
