Three Alphas, Fated To One, Played By One, But Mated To One

Caelan’s POV

I haven’t felt this good in a long time.

When we left the pack in the morning, I thought that things would be awkward when I met with my mate.

I didn’t expect things to go so smoothly. She is still young and naive, but I found myself completely captivated by her.

Talking to her even if it was something as professional and complicated as code was more enjoyable than any conversation I have had in years.

She is also a great cook and very approachable.

Even though she has suffered for so many years, she didn’t let the hatred get to her.

However, my favorite thing was the fact that I got to hug her before I left.

I took a gamble when I saw her standing there and looking like she was about to cry.

In fact, that was the biggest gamble of my life and a loss would have meant suffering on my journey to chase my mate.

Fortunately, my gamble paid off.

I didn’t turn back and hug her on impulse. It was a calculated move.

I know that right now she believes that other guy is her mate, but if I don’t take action, our bond will never come back and that forced mate bond might stick for life.

So, when I realized that she had a very sensitive reaction to my touch, I decided that my way of winning her over, other than respecting her and supporting her, would be through physical touch.

She quite literally melts from my touch and that is my weapon.

But I also know that I must take it slow and not scare her off or let her think I was taking advantage of her.

That was why when leaving, I hugged her in the guise of wishing her a happy birthday.

I even got to call her by the nickname I was itching to use since I saw her that morning.

She is indeed little and makes my heart tremble just from one look. I just couldn’t show it openly, especially since she still has a mate in name.

I must be patient until she breaks the mate bond.

My heart almost exploded from excitement when I hugged her and she didn’t push me away.

At that time, I was so tempted to plant a kiss on those soft and plump lips but I held myself back.

There was still time for so much more in the future.

However, I wanted to confirm something I had been suspecting since I saw her. However, she is very vigilant.

So, I decided to do it in secret.

Once our car had disappeared from view, I had my beta, Casper stop it a few miles away.

Then I got out, shifted into my massive black alpha wolf and ran through the forest, heading back to her house.

I noticed that even in the forest, she had installed surveillance instruments and other devices.

If not for my hundreds of years of experience, I wouldn’t have managed to hide my presence and go back without being noticed.

I shifted again to my human form once I was close to the treeline near her house and stood silently to watch.

To my surprise, she was still standing outside the house looking in the direction our car had disappeared in.

She looked so sad and alone that I had the urge to just run forward and gather her in my arms.

I wanted to hold her and make her feel safe.

Unfortunately, for now, I didn’t have the status to do that.

At most, I had just become a friend and was still mostly a stranger.

As I waited there quietly, I felt it. The fluctuation of power from her and I realized that I had been right.

However, the fluctuation was so faint that even a powerful person like Casper, who was more powerful than most alpha wolves of other packs couldn’t feel it.

It was very well-concealed.

After confirming my guess, I turned around and ran back to the car.

"Let’s go." I told Casper as soon as I got into the car.

"Why did you go back?" Casper asked with his curious expression almost glued to my face.

"Nothing. I just wanted to see if she was okay. After all, when we left, she looked like she was about to cry." I said.

Of course, I wasn’t going to tell him the truth. Since she has chosen to keep it a secret, she must have her reasons.

All the way back, my thoughts were dominated by Valerie’s soft body against mine.

I couldn’t forget the way she felt when I held her and the intoxicating scent that nearly made me lose my senses.

Back in the pack, I went straight to my bedroom.

It was rare for me to go back to my bedroom before midnight because of all the work I have as the alpha of the largest pack and the king.

"Why is she hiding the fact that she has a wolf?" Alaric asked me in confusion as soon as we were alone.

"I don’t know, but I don’t think it’s that simple." I replied thoughtfully.

"She clearly has a very powerful wolf. Yet she lets others call her a wolfless waste and even abused and looked down on, yet she has never once revealed the existence of her wolf. That is so strange." Alaric added.

"Maybe it has something to do with her being the chosen one. So many people are coveting her power. Maybe she already knows this and has hidden her wolf to stay safe." I knew that my guess was probably the closest to the truth.

"Then her life is really miserable. Just because of other people’s greed, she had to live such a tough life. Is there nothing we can do?" Alaric asked.

I could feel his heart breaking just thinking about our mate, just like mine was doing.

"For now, we can’t be too straightforward. We are still strangers to her, but I am sure we left a good impression. So, let’s bank on that and keep supporting her from behind. Don’t accidentally expose her." I didn’t like this arrangement, but I couldn’t be too close to her before she breaks her fake bond with that mate of hers.
