Chapter 631: Get Out, OK? 7
After Ashley Grant finished, her gaze shifted to Leona Grant, and she said bluntly, "You’re not exactly blameless either."
Being berated by his younger sister in front of so many people should have been humiliating, but Leona Grant fell silent upon hearing her words.
He hadn’t been paying attention to what Ashley Grant was saying, and her words were only just now sinking in.
’That’s right. Back when Annabelle Linton was suffering so much, what was I doing?’
Annabelle Linton gave Ashley Grant a baffled look and said nonchalantly, "What does this have to do with them? Come on, everyone, gather ’round. With scenery this beautiful, it would be a shame not to get a group picture."
Leona Grant watched Annabelle Linton with a profound, shadowed gaze, his lips pressed together. His heart ached.
’Annabelle Linton was right.’
’What did this have to do with them? Since my rebirth, I’ve always resented Leona Grant for his heartlessness and indifference toward me. But this specific issue was about William Chapman, my father, refusing to give me money. What did that have to do with Leona Grant?’
’We weren’t even married back then. He had no obligation to be good to me or take responsibility for me.’
"Alright, alright, picture time, picture time! Let’s all capture the moment!" Xylas Shepherd said, rallying everyone to come over for the photo.
Vivian Yates was standing off to the side, so Xylas Shepherd went over, took her hand, and had her stand with him.
Annabelle Linton set up the camera, got it into position, and then joined them for the photo, standing next to Leona Grant.
Ashley Grant and Nathaniel Locke stood together.
Leona Grant looked down at Annabelle Linton, his expression complicated.
After taking the picture, the group started their hike up the mountain.
During the hike, Ashley Grant kept her arm around Annabelle Linton, taking selfies the entire way up. Annabelle was an easygoing person, so whatever Ashley asked, she would happily play along with a smile.
The two of them, wearing large, wide-brimmed hats and sunglasses, looked incredibly stylish.
Leona Grant walked silently behind them. He watched Annabelle Linton’s radiant smile, sighed, and did nothing more than watch...
The mountaintop was an idyllic paradise.
There was a waterfall and a stream where children stood in the water trying to catch small fish. A joyous atmosphere filled the air.
Ashley Grant and Xylas Shepherd went off to buy souvenirs. As Annabelle Linton took a sip of water, she finally noticed that something was off with Leona Grant...
He was sitting alone on a public bench with a gloomy expression, staring at the fish in the stream, lost in thought.
Annabelle Linton walked over, handed him a bottle of water, and asked, "So, are you having a good time today?"
"It’s alright."
"Are you tired?"
"Not tired."
Now Annabelle Linton was sure something was wrong with him.
’The old him would never have been this quiet... Could it be because I ignored him the whole way up?’
’But on second thought, that didn’t seem right either.’
’If I had ignored him, with his temper, it would be a miracle if he hadn’t already lost it on the spot.’
Hmmm...
Annabelle Linton had no idea why he had suddenly become like this.
’Could it be because he didn’t want to come, and I forced him to, so now he’s unhappy?’
’...This is going to be a problem.’
Annabelle Linton sat down beside him and leaned against his shoulder, but Leona Grant didn’t react.
Normally, he would have immediately wrapped an arm around her.
Annabelle Linton waited a moment, but he didn’t embrace her. They just leaned against each other in silence, neither of them speaking or moving.
Leona Grant’s gaze remained fixed on the stream, though it was impossible to tell what he was looking at.
Completely baffled, Annabelle Linton stood in front of him and used her hands to turn his face, forcing him to meet her gaze.
With him sitting down, they were now at the same height.
Annabelle Linton looked at him, her brow furrowed. "What’s wrong with you?" she asked.
Leona Grant gave a faint smile and replied, "It’s nothing..."
Annabelle Linton looked at his preoccupied expression. No matter how well he tried to hide it, she could still tell something was on his mind.
