Chapter 254: Then What Do You Think I Should Do?
A birthday?
Whose birthday?
Leona Grant’s expression darkened; he already had an idea. "Whose birthday?"
"Annabelle’s."
Ashley Grant pressed her lips together and looked at Leona Grant. "Her birthday is next Tuesday. In the two years she’s been married to you, you’ve never celebrated it with her for one reason or another, which is a real shame. So this time, I want to throw her a better party to make up for it, but I don’t have any money..."
Leona Grant’s expression grew even darker.
’Annabelle Linton’s birthday is next Tuesday? How did I not know?’
’Or rather, it seemed he’d never known when her birthday was at all...’
’He hadn’t celebrated with her, though he knew she’d had parties. He just wasn’t interested... so he never went...’
He suddenly remembered his own birthday, six months ago. Annabelle Linton hadn’t changed back then.
She had waited all night for him with a gift, right below his office. But he had gone out to celebrate with friends, forgetting about her completely.
She had been sick at the time, too, and had ended up fainting.
Things were different now. He hadn’t felt anything back then, but now, the memory was incredibly painful.
A wave of remorse washed over Leona Grant.
"Bro, I’ll sell you some intel... about my sister-in-law. Interested?"
Hearing it was about Annabelle Linton, Leona Grant looked at Ashley Grant anxiously. "What intel?"
Ashley Grant smiled sheepishly. "Um, the money..."
Leona Grant frowned, picked up his phone from the table, and tapped the screen a few times. "You can talk now."
Ashley Grant heard a notification and quickly checked her phone.
500,000!
’Holy crap! He sent ten times what I expected! Did his finger slip?’
’Oh well, not my problem, hehe.’
Ashley Grant put her phone away, her expression turning serious.
In truth, she did have something important to say. Getting the money was secondary; this was the real priority.
"Bro, today when Annabelle and I were out, Aaron took her to a jewelry store..."
Leona Grant’s pupils constricted, and his fist tightened involuntarily.
"He had Annabelle help him pick out a pair of diamond rings for a proposal. He said they were for a confession. She didn’t seem to think much of it and chose the best pair, and then Aaron bought them.
"So, um, I think he’s going to confess to her on her birthday. And you know how close they are..."
"CRASH!"
This time, he kicked the coffee table right over. "He dares?!"
"...It’s not a matter of whether he’d dare to."
Ashley Grant looked at Leona Grant with pity and sighed. "Bro, have you really not figured out why she doesn’t like you?"
Leona Grant froze.
"You’re ill-tempered, domineering, and selfish. You never think about anyone but yourself. How do you expect her to like you?
"Just take this, for example. Women are romantics. Aaron knew about her birthday ages ago, and now he’s buying rings and clothes to win her over. And you? What have you done?"
Leona Grant’s frown deepened. Her words were clearly sinking in.
He looked at Ashley Grant, his gaze dark and profound, and asked in a low voice, "Then what do you think I should do?"
Ashley Grant was shocked. ’My arrogant brother, who’s always looked down on everyone, is actually humbling himself to ask me for advice? Pigs must be flying.’
Ashley Grant started to leave, not wanting to say anything more. "In this world, there’s nothing you can’t accomplish if you truly put your heart into it. You’re a smart guy, Bro. As long as you take this seriously, I’m sure you can do it right. I’ve said my piece. The rest is up to you."
Hearing this, Leona Grant’s stern face fell into deep thought.
