Chapter 241 - 340: Beset with Crises (1)
A cold glint flashed in Leona Grant’s eyes.
He’d make sure anyone who dared to scheme against him would die a very methodical death.
"I’ve figured out the rules of the maze. Keep up!"
After saying this, Leona Grant grabbed Annabelle Linton’s wrist and led the way forward, shining his flashlight ahead.
’It’s so dark. I have to hold on to her; what would I do if she got lost?’
Annabelle tried to pull away, but his grip was tight.
’We can’t stay in a place like this for long. Besides, I know his type. The more I fight back, the tighter he’ll hold on.’
Since he wasn’t going to let go anyway, Annabelle decided not to waste any more time struggling.
Leona Grant led them through a series of twists and turns. Their pace was erratic—sometimes they would wait, other times they would hurry. A few minutes later, they stopped in front of a solid wall.
Then, the wall slowly slid open, and a sliver of light streamed in.
Leona Grant instinctively glanced at Annabelle.
The sliver of light reflected in Annabelle’s eyes, and the corners of her lips curved into a faint smile.
’This woman... Even a simple expression on her is so captivating.’
The opening was clear, and the group stepped out.
Outside the maze lay a wide tunnel, broad enough for seven or eight people to walk abreast. Torches were mounted on the walls every two meters.
As they were walking...
A colossal creature suddenly emerged from the tunnel ahead...
All four of them stared, their eyes wide in shock.
Before them stood an absolutely enormous tiger!
The tiger stared at them with cold eyes, its heavy breathing echoing in their ears and filling them with dread.
"Annabelle, give me the combat knife from the bag!" Leona Grant ordered, his voice low and serious.
Annabelle didn’t dare hesitate and handed the knife to Leona Grant.
There were two knives. Leona Grant kept one and gave the other to Nathaniel Locke. "Nathaniel and I will take it on. Xylas, you protect Annabelle. Got it?!"
"Yes, yes, I’ll protect Annabelle!" Xylas grabbed her arm, and they both backed away.
Annabelle didn’t say anything. The best thing she could do right now was stay out of their way.
The tiger tensed, then lunged at them!
Xylas grabbed Annabelle and started to run back the way they came. But as soon as they turned, they saw the glittering green eyes of a large black wolf staring at them.
Xylas: "..."
Annabelle: "..."
’This must be that classic ’wolf in front, tiger behind’ situation, huh?’
They exchanged a look that clearly said the same thing: ’Are you fucking kidding me?’
"Annabelle, move!"
Xylas shoved Annabelle aside just as the wolf pounced, landing on him instead.
Xylas was pinned beneath the wolf as it opened its jaws to bite him!
Annabelle remembered hearing that wolves were afraid of fire. Without a second thought, she grabbed a nearby torch, rushed forward, and thrust it at the wolf’s flank.
The wolf let out a piercing shriek and leaped back.
Annabelle quickly helped Xylas to his feet, and they started running back toward Leona Grant and Nathaniel.
The wolf gave chase.
Up ahead, the tiger had Nathaniel Locke pinned down. Leona Grant plunged his knife into the tiger’s eye. The beast let out a deafening roar and recoiled.
"Get out of the way!"
The shout came from Annabelle and Xylas.
Leona Grant looked over and saw a wolf chasing them.
A wave of panic surged through him. He started to move to save her, but Annabelle shouted, "Everyone, get against the wall!"
The three men immediately pressed themselves against the wall, but Annabelle didn’t!
She stood between the two beasts, the torch in her hand making her an obvious target.
Leona Grant realized what she was doing. ’That foolish woman is using herself as bait!’
And just as he thought, both the wolf and the tiger lunged at Annabelle simultaneously!
