Remarriage Failed Again Today

Chapter 236 - 235: Are You Caring About Me?

They were the only two people on this island. Working together was the only way for both of them to benefit.

Leona listened to Annabelle’s analysis, admiring her from the bottom of his heart.

"Your analysis is spot on, but what if there are beasts in the forest?"

It was a definite possibility in such a wild and desolate place.

Annabelle’s cool gaze swept over the woods as she stated calmly, "But we don’t have a choice right now. Crossing it might give us a sliver of hope. If we stay here, we’re just waiting to die."

Annabelle was right.

They were stranded on an unknown island where no one would find them. The island had no fresh water, and the only thing they’d drunk so far was dew that Annabelle had collected. There was no hope in staying put.

Leona’s admiration for Annabelle grew even more. He hadn’t expected this woman to be so decisive and observant.

He looked at Annabelle, a sense of pride involuntarily swelling in his chest.

’That’s my wife!’

Leona stood in front of Annabelle, looked at her seriously, and pledged, "Don’t be afraid if there are beasts. I’ll protect you, alright?"

Annabelle glanced at the wound on his arm and scoffed. She picked up her bag, moved past him, and tossed a perfect eye-roll and her cold, retreating back his way. "I’d be eternally grateful if you just took care of yourself and stopped making trouble for me."

Leona: "..."

’Did she just scorn me?’

Leona watched Annabelle’s ramrod-straight back and quickly hurried to walk shoulder-to-shoulder with her.

’Just in case something happened—a beast or whatever—he had to be there to protect Annabelle.’

’He couldn’t let his wife get hurt.’

The two of them walked through the forest for a long time, continuing until noon.

It was a good thing they were in a forest; if this had been a desert, they would have died of thirst by this point.

But both of them were still parched.

Leona and Annabelle walked for a bit, then Annabelle stopped short, staring at a tree up ahead. "Have you noticed we’re just walking in circles?"

It dawned on Leona as well. "I think you’re right. That’s the mark we made before."

Annabelle pursed her lips. It looked like they were lost.

’We can’t rush this. If we can’t find a way out, we have to conserve energy.’

"Rest here. I’m going to find us something to eat. You stay put, and don’t move."

Having said her piece, Annabelle started to walk away.

Leona immediately cut her off. "If anyone’s going, it’ll be me. What are you trying to do, leave me here all by myself?"

Annabelle gave him a flat look, her expression seeming to say, ’Don’t try to be a hero.’

Leona understood immediately, but then another thought struck him. "Are you worried about me?"

"And where did you get that confidence?"

Leona was on cloud nine. He was clearly overjoyed, but he deliberately put on a look of disdain. "You don’t have to hide it; I see everything. Annabelle, you woman, you say one thing and mean another!"

’What was he going to do? He absolutely adored her—the way she clearly liked him but was too proud to admit it. This woman was going to drive him crazy!’

Annabelle ignored Leona’s narcissism.

She rolled her eyes, just in time to see several monkeys leaping past.

Annabelle had a flash of inspiration.

’If monkeys could live here, there had to be fresh water nearby.’

’Plus, she’d seen the monkeys picking and eating bananas, which meant the fruit wasn’t poisonous.’

The banana trees weren’t very tall, so Annabelle went and picked a few.

"This will tide you over. Don’t eat too much."

Bananas aid digestion.

After she spoke, Annabelle found a place to sit down and observe the terrain.

Leona sat down next to Annabelle.

After eating, the two of them set off again. This time, they were lucky. Amidst a stretch of lush green jungle, they found a large source of water.
