Remarriage Failed Again Today

Chapter 226: Wife, I Knew You Cared About Me...

He looked up at her. Her expression was impassive, her gaze cool and distant. She had that same dead look on her face, as if she wouldn’t show the slightest emotion even if he died right in front of her.

For a moment, Leona Grant’s heart went numb.

It was as if the entire world was mocking him.

But his pride would not allow him to be so humbled!

Leona Grant violently kicked over the nearby coffee table, then swept the bottles of alcohol off the counter. The sorrow on his face was replaced by fury. His dark, ruthless eyes stared menacingly at Annabelle Linton. "Then leave! Just go!

Go be with your Aaron Wyatt! Go have your perfect little world for two with him! Go enjoy your fairytale romance! What do you care whether I live or die? Annabelle Linton, I don’t need your pity! Get out! Just get the hell out!"

Annabelle Linton didn’t leave heartlessly as she usually would have. Instead, she grabbed a bottle of mineral water from nearby and, without a moment’s hesitation, dumped it over his face.

Drenching him from head to toe.

All his passion and fury were extinguished in an instant. Leona Grant stared at her, dumbfounded.

Annabelle Linton’s expression was still cold—glacially so. She frowned, looking at Leona Grant with exasperation. "Embarrassing yourself all the way out here in a foreign country... Leona Grant, just how long are you going to keep making a scene?"

The moment she finished speaking, Leona Grant pulled her into a fierce embrace. He was trembling, holding her with a mixture of excitement and sorrow. In a hoarse voice, he said, "Honey, I knew you cared about me. I knew you wouldn’t abandon me. Take me with you, please? We can go anywhere, just don’t leave me..."

Annabelle Linton looked at Leona Grant, taken aback.

’Hearing his words, for a second I thought I was hallucinating. But then again, why read so much into the ramblings of a drunk?’

’Cared about him? Couldn’t abandon him?’

’Not a chance.’

’She just didn’t want to be bothered, nor did she want to stand by and watch him get himself killed.’

’Drinking with a high fever could be fatal.’

’It was true she hated him and found him infuriating, but if he died, what would happen to the Grant Family?’

’What would happen to Grandpa?’

Annabelle Linton wearily closed her eyes. Her indifferent voice was completely flat.

She had given in.

’She had simply lost to the last shred of kindness left in her heart.’

"Come back with me."

Leona Grant hugged her tighter, his voice muffled. "Okay."

Leona Grant obediently followed Annabelle Linton back. He stared at her the entire way, being incredibly well-behaved.

Back at home, when Annabelle Linton told him to take a shower, he obediently took one. When she told him to go to sleep, he went to sleep.

He did whatever Annabelle Linton told him to do. In short, he was perfectly behaved.

In the middle of the night, Leona Grant’s fever worsened.

Annabelle Linton gave him some medicine.

He clutched Annabelle Linton’s arm like a child, his gaze hazy as he looked at her and whispered, "Don’t go... Annabelle Linton, don’t go..."

"I’m not going." The expression on Annabelle Linton’s face was one of extreme impatience. "Open your mouth," she said coldly.

Leona Grant obediently opened his mouth, giving Annabelle Linton a pitiable look.

Speechless, Annabelle Linton finished giving him the medicine. The moment she put it down and turned, Leona Grant pulled her into an embrace, holding her the way one might clutch a pillow.

His heavy body pressed down on her, and Annabelle Linton felt like she was being crushed.

She scowled. "Let go!"

Leona Grant didn’t move an inch.

Annabelle Linton shoved him again, but he was already fast asleep.

"..."

Annabelle Linton glared at him with disgust, but not wanting to wake him, she slowly tried to ease herself out of his embrace.

As if sensing something, Leona Grant held her even tighter and murmured softly, "Annabelle Linton, don’t go... I... I really like you..."
