Remarriage Failed Again Today

Chapter 759: Trust Me, You Won't Die

‘This way, I can just wait and see how things play out. Nothing in this world is set in stone, so… what if there is no cure?’

That silly woman said that if he died, she wouldn’t go on living. It would be a lie to say her words didn’t move him, but beyond being moved, he naturally hoped she would live a full life.

There were so many wonderful things in the world. She had suffered for over twenty years and, because of him, had yet to live a good life. He didn’t want her to end it all just like that.

‘So, we should probably separate for a while. For one, there’s that dream I still haven’t figured out. I don’t want to put Annabelle Linton in danger.’

Quentin Holland had such a good relationship with her; he’d be at ease if she was by his side, even though he hated the idea of entrusting her protection to another man.

But her safety was more important than anything else.

‘And two… if the tests really don’t reveal anything, then I’ll just have to hide it from her for now.’

At this thought, Leona Grant felt a crushing weight on his heart.

‘If it’s really incurable, what am I going to do?’

‘I don’t want to be apart from her. I don’t want to die…’

Seeing him silent, Annabelle Linton stood up, kissed his lips, and then sat on his lap. She took his hand and said softly, “Honey, trust me. I’ll get the antidote for you.”

Leona Grant simply watched her with a deep, somber gaze, saying nothing.

The thought that they might have to separate now—or perhaps forever—sent a sudden pang of pain through Leona Grant’s heart.

After a moment, he pulled her into a tight embrace, closing his eyes without making a sound.

Annabelle Linton said no more.

They held each other in intimate silence. After a long, long time, Leona Grant sighed and said, “Alright. Go, then.”

Annabelle Linton cupped his face, her expression complex as she looked at him.

Leona Grant gazed back, unblinking. It was as if their world had frozen in place.

In that moment, there was no virus, no anxiety—only each other.

“Go. And take good care of yourself when you get there, okay?”

“I’ll miss you constantly. You have to call me every day, and if anything happens, you tell me first.”

“I’ll take care of myself, too, so don’t worry about me. And don’t put any pressure on yourself. Even if you can’t find the antidote, I’ll have one developed here, you hear me?”

As Annabelle Linton listened to his words, scenes from their past flashed before her eyes.

The two of them… From the heartache, sadness, and misunderstandings of their past life to this one; from not loving each other, to a love that couldn’t be, to finally being together now—it had been a journey of over twenty years.

After everything they’d been through to finally be together, why was life playing such a cruel joke on them now?

At the thought, Annabelle Linton’s tears began to fall again. She forced a lighthearted smile and asked, “Oh, so you’re that amazing, are you?”

Leona Grant wiped away her tears, a gentle smile spreading across his face. “But of course. I am the one, the only, invincible throughout the cosmos, Annabelle Linton’s one-of-a-kind, devastatingly handsome, exceptionally talented, impossibly cool, dashingly debonair, city-toppling, kingdom-conquering husband: Leona Grant.”

This was a routine they had from long ago. Annabelle Linton remembered it clearly, and the memory still filled her with warmth.

Annabelle Linton played along, saying, “Leona Grant, I think you dropped your modesty.”

“I don’t want it back.”

“Well, congratulations on officially becoming shameless.”

“Same to you.”

They both burst out laughing again.

After a moment of laughter, Annabelle Linton looked at him seriously. Wiping at her tears, her voice was choked with emotion, yet firm, as she said, “Leona Grant, believe me. You are not going to die.”

“Okay,” he said. “I believe you.”
