Chapter 146: Family Issues
Damian’s eyes fluttered open and all he saw was a white ceiling with chandeliers he couldn’t recognize. He tried to move and felt stabbing pains all over his body. This only made him frown as he abruptly sat up and shrugged off the pain like it was nothing.
After getting his bones snapped and crushed in the fight against Duke Haborym, his pain tolerance had strengthened greatly.
Immediately Damian was swarmed from all directions as Hazel, Racheal and Ruby hugged him tight from three sides, their breasts pressing against his body.
"Wait... Hold on!" Damian screamed before he was dragged to the bed with Racheal hanging onto his neck and laying on his hurting body while Ruby and Hazel flanked his sides, all three hugging him tight.
Maybe it was their scent, or the warmth of their bodies, or maybe just their presence. But whatever it was, it calmed Damain’s nerves and for the first time in a while his tense muscles relaxed.
He simply wrapped his hands around Racheal and silently enjoyed their warmth. There was no more danger or battle to be fought, it was okay to relax now.
Damian maintained this position and actually slept off in the embrace of his women. By the time his eyes fluttered open again, the room lights were on but his bed was empty.
Mechanically, he sat up and took in his surroundings. It was a sizable room with a king sized bed, expensive sofas and even a glass wall that gave him a breathtaking view of the city below. If it weren’t for the patient monitor and IV pump beside his bed, he would have assumed he was in someone’s home.
Damian pulled out the tube from his hand and tossed it aside casually. He slid off the bed and walked up to the glass wall. He was shirtless and in sweat pants, allowing him to see the bandaged wound on his chest. Damian couldn’t help but chuckle. He was sure he would be wearing a hospital gown if his wives weren’t taking care of him. They would never let him wear something so ugly.
’Silly girls.’
Damian turned his attention toward the night sky. It was illuminated by a handful of stars and a full moon, casting a weak light on the colorful city below.
From the corner of his vision he could see several messages waiting to be opened but of course, why wouldn’t they be there. He killed a Duke of hell. It’s not a small achievement.
However Damain wasn’t in the mood to entertain those messages. His fists clenched so tight that his nails slowly began digging into his skin.
Damain could see Adrian’s reflection still holding the gun and pointing at him.
"That bastard actually shot me...." Damian hissed with a vicious gleam in his eyes.
He wanted nothing more than to get his hands on Adrian and Candice. Even after their betrayal and with his newfound powers, he never sought retribution, but they kept coming at him.
"I tried to be nice. You two only have yourselves to blame for what happens next!" He vowed.
"Who are they?"
The voice was calm, lovely and melodious. Damian looked over his shoulder to see Racheal, Ruby and Hazel standing behind him with emotional eyes.
He stared at them silently for a few seconds before responding.
"I’ll handle it."
Damain returned his attention to the dark city below him, his expression mirroring the dullness he had seen in Lin Qui’s eyes.
Candice and Adrian were his problem to deal with. He had no reason to involve them.
"We know you fought Haborym." Hazel’s voice rang from behind, bordering between pain and anger. "Why would you do something so reckless?"
Damain’s brows furrowed as he stared at their reflection through the glass.
"I handled it, didn’t I?"
"That is not the point!" Ruby yelled at him and Racheal held her shoulder to calm her.
Damian let out a loud sigh. He felt so uncomfortable and agitated he wanted to yell back and tell them they didn’t have the right to ask him questions like this, especially when they were the ones hiding things from him, but he felt too tired.
Not physically, but spiritually and mentally.
"I need some rest... Just go." Damain said and the room fell silent.
The three girls stared at him like they had just seen a ghost. This was the second time Damain was telling them this and it was even more painful since he was pushing them away when he was at his weakest.
They were losing him.
"No!" Racheal spoke up and stepped forward with a rare display of decisiveness.
She turned to Ruby and snapped at her. "Shut up, you only make things worse."
Then she turned to Damain and asked.
"Can you please hear me out?"
Damian couldn’t respond immediately. He could feel his chest tightening, his heart rate increasing and the growing feeling of discomfort. Even in his final moments against Duke Haborym he never felt this anxious and uncomfortable. That was why he wanted to get out of this situation. But he didn’t want to shut them out completely like Lin Qui explained.
Reluctantly, he turned around and wrapped his hands around his chest and waited patiently. Under Damain’s annoyed gaze Racheal’s confidence wavered slightly but she swallowed her fear and stepped forward.
"You are right. We unconsciously looked down on you as a mortal and that’s why we withheld information. We have no excuse for this behavior but we want you to know we will never hurt you on purpose." Racheal paused to let her words sink in.
She saw his conflicted eyes waver at her last words and her heart flared with hope. Racheal wanted to speak more but Damain gestured at her to stop.
"Your intention doesn’t matter because in the end your actions killed my trust in you three. Honestly I don’t have a favorable opinion and after everything, I’m beginning to hate your kind more."
Buzz!
The three shivered, their eyes snapping up to see Damain’s cold eyes void of emotion. The more he spoke the more clarity he gained.
"I hate that I have to abandon everything to live the way you all want me. Like my own desires are invalid. So no... I can’t overlook what happened. That trust and partnership will have to be rebuilt from scratch."
