Chapter 27 : Chapter 27
Chapter 27. Zhao Mingyue, the Little Mastermind
The young woman stood in front of the police car. She wore a long black dress, and her hair was tied into a ponytail that fell behind her back. She was not breathtakingly beautiful, but her appearance was pleasant and easy on the eyes. Only her gaze betrayed a hidden killing intent.
“Who are you?” Lu Liangting asked with confusion. Sitting inside the car, he could not clearly see the girl’s face. Her voice sounded very familiar, as if he had heard it somewhere before, but he could not recall where.
“Help me with something, alright? It is a very, very important matter.”
The girl repeated what she had just said, which made Lu Liangting suspicious.
Her appearance was already strange. After all, who would wander around near an apartment complex in the outskirts of the city at two-thirty in the morning, especially a young woman?
“The police are right here in the car. Wait—Officer Chen?!” Lu Liangting suddenly realized that the police officers sitting in the driver’s and passenger’s seats had somehow already lost consciousness.
Before he could even turn his head, he heard a click.
The rear door of the police car was pulled open by a slender hand. A few strands of black hair fell down, and Lu Liangting finally saw the girl’s face.
She was wearing an eerie smile.
His pupils shrank slightly.
“It is you!”
He had seen her before. She was in the class next door. Just the day before yesterday, she had approached him and asked a series of strange questions that made little sense. He had not expected to encounter her again here today.
“It seems you still remember me. That is good. However, I hope you will remember my name forever. And for the rest of your life, you should only remember my name. If a second name ever appears in your heart, I will be very unhappy.”
A subtle smile curved her lips as the girl in the black dress extended her hand toward Lu Liangting.
“I want you to help me with something. Something that only you can help me with.”
At that moment, Lu Liangting suddenly felt his head growing heavy. A wave of dizziness washed over him.
Someone had drugged the car.
He had never expected the girl to be so insane that she would attack him directly inside a police vehicle.
“Zhang Lin.”
With one hand in his pocket, he gripped the pen tightly. Immediately, a figure appeared behind the girl in the black dress. The moment the figure manifested, it lunged forward and tried to wrap its arms around her.
The girl’s body looked fragile, but her strength was far from weak. Just before Zhang Lin’s arms closed around her, she twisted her body at a bizarre angle and slipped free.
“A ghost? Interesting.”
The girl sneered. Without hesitation, she bit her finger. With two bloodied fingers shaped like claws, she thrust them toward Zhang Lin’s eyes. Her movement was incredibly fast and forceful. Zhang Lin had no time to react before his eyes were pierced. He let out a muffled groan of pain and vanished.
BANG!
From the back seat of the police car, Lu Liangting suddenly kicked out, striking the girl on the buttocks. Then he slammed the door shut and locked it. Using the last of his strength, he leaned forward and pressed the police radio on the center console.
“An officer is under attack. Send reinforcements immediately.”
There were still two officers inside the building’s corridor. Once they heard the message, they would definitely come rushing over.
After finishing this, Lu Liangting’s consciousness finally slipped into darkness. Just before losing awareness completely, he glanced once more at the fifth floor of Sunshine Apartments.
He had originally planned to enter again and investigate her past, then help her find release.
The girl in the black dress turned around, narrowing her eyes dangerously.
She had been only one step away from succeeding.
“Forget it. There will be plenty of opportunities in the future.”
She muttered softly and began walking away.
She glanced toward a nearby alley. It seemed that someone was standing there, watching her with mocking eyes. More importantly, there was not just one person.
“Hmph. One day, I will kill all of you.”
“No… there is no need to rush. As long as I capture Lu Liangting, you will all be waiting for your execution.”
***
Bai Yu stood in front of the window, gazing at the police car below. She had witnessed the entire scene.
Beside her, Zhao Mingyue looked confused.
“Who was that woman? What just happened?”
“I think it might be a relationship problem,” Bai Yu said, surprisingly making a rare joke.
“A relationship problem? I have never heard that Lu Liangting has a girlfriend. Could you be mistaken? Even if it really is a relationship issue, arguing at this hour seems strange.”
“Arguing?” Bai Yu replied calmly. “My guess is that woman would chop Lu Liangting into pieces and then argue with his severed head.”
“Uh…”
Zhao Mingyue was speechless.
She knew Bai Yu was not someone who liked to joke. Which meant that what she had just said was very likely the truth.
Bai Yu turned around and walked back into the room, her expression calm.
It was certain that Lu Liangting had been targeted.
There were many wolves, but little meat. All those lunatics wanted Lu Liangting. Some of them might even be crazy enough to kill Lu Liangting and the other supporting characters just to drag everyone down with them.
Lu Liangting was not the only one being targeted.
Zhao Mingyue would not escape either.
As the biggest rival, Zhao Mingyue had to die.
“Go back and get some rest. We can talk about it tomorrow.”
“It is already so late. Sleeping a little later will not matter. Bai Yu, tell me more about what just happened with Lu Liangting. Why would that woman want to dismember him?”
Seeing Bai Yu return to her usual cold demeanor, Zhao Mingyue immediately clung to her.
“There is no need for you to know. Just remember this: there are many women like her around Lu Liangting. Let me give you some advice. When you go to school, stay away from Lu Liangting. Also stay away from anyone who approaches you voluntarily and behaves strangely—especially women.”
“Alright, but you still need to tell me why.”
“To put it bluntly, it is the same as tonight. Anyone who approaches you willingly is very likely trying to kill you. At school, you will be in even greater danger than during tonight’s mission.”
Normally, Bai Yu was not someone who liked to speak so much. But Zhao Mingyue kept asking, so she explained a little more.
“Okay, okay. I will be careful!”
Since Bai Yu had said so, Zhao Mingyue did not argue and nodded with a serious expression.
“During the daytime, my power will be greatly weakened. And I can help you at most once. If I intervene, those people will learn of my existence. The next time they try to attack you, they will definitely find a way to eliminate me first before dealing with you.”
“I understand. I will be careful. But being careful on my own is not enough. I do not have enough experience. So in the future, I will have to rely on you, Bai Yu, to communicate with me more.”
Bai Yu had not expected the conversation to circle back to her.
But after thinking about it, Zhao Mingyue was not wrong. If Zhao Mingyue relied only on herself, she would definitely die a miserable death.
If they wanted to play it safe, Bai Yu would have to remind her often and pay closer attention to her situation.
“Alright.”
After saying that, Bai Yu—still wearing the hairstyle with low twin tails—disappeared from the spot and slipped into Zhao Mingyue’s shadow.
What she did not see was the triumphant smile that appeared on Zhao Mingyue’s face.
Being cautious was one thing.
But during that process, she could also accomplish other things.
For example, making Bai Yu talk to her more—and gradually changing her cold personality.
