Conflux System: I Can Merge Anything

Chapter 207: The Dead Speak Loudest

When the body sinks into death, the essence of man is revealed. Man is a knot, a web, a mesh into which relationships are tied. Only those relationships matter.

But the bodies of those who were murdered, no one cared about their relationships, they only cared about who killed them.

So it was important for the dead bodies to be dealt with and Zane had agreed to that as well.

But after Jammy revealed the things that needed to be done, Zane said something unexpected.

"Leave the dead bodies here. I don’t care anymore."

He couldn’t care less about the dead bodies.

Jammy frowned the hardest this time.

"What are you saying? If you are thinking that cutting them in pieces would take time then you should know that my Cane can cut them easily and fast. And if you don’t like the idea of cutting then we can dump them as it is. I can do something like that as well. Just say the word."

"Let them be. No need to work so hard." Zane didn’t change his mind.

"You are not understanding this, kid." Jammy won’t give up that easily. "If we leave them here then it might cause us problems. What if someone finds out that we did it? Leon sent them here and he would contact them back for sure. And if he has someone with a skill that can see the memories of the dead, then we will get caught. Their dead bodies need to be dumped."

"You are right." Zane said.

Jammy sighed in relief.

"Take their crystals." Zane ordered and Jammy did it without any questions.

Only the leader had a crystal with him and Jammy tossed it at Zane.

There was no ring on the leader’s finger and that only showed the rarity of the Flame ring. Not even a Scepter could have it.

Zane stored the crystal inside his ring and Jammy held the bodies again.

But Zane grinded his teeth.

"I told you to not bother with them."

"The hell?"

Jammy snapped.

He let go of the bodies and walked towards Zane.

"What is your deal?" He barked.

Zane didn’t mind the shout and calmly answered:

"We will not be caught."

"How?"

"We will change our clothes. We will discard masks and change our faces with something else. We will search the house and leave this place. I will tell the Wardens the Simmers are still inside and we are leaving. I will give them some money. No one knows Zane Atlas was here.

Even if someone saw the memories of the dead, they will only see that the leader identified the masked man as Zane Atlas and nothing more. And since after today we will be in different clothes and faces, no one could find us even after seeing that memory."

Zane finished explaining himself and Jammy bit his lip.

"But earlier you agreed to handle the dead bodies."

"Now I changed my mind."

"Why are you so against disposing of them now?"

Zane’s eyes found a glint.

"To send a message."

"What message?"

"That Zane Atlas is capable of killing too."

Jammy’s brows shot up.

"What?"

Zane touched Jammy’s shoulder.

"When Leon receives no news from this man, he will send someone over to check, they will find the dead bodies and panic. In no time, they will figure out one of the three things. Either Horum killed them or Zane Atlas or a third person entirely.

It’s a high chance they will think Horum killed them but when they will ask around, they will get to know that before the Simmers came here, someone was already present here and if Leon is smart, he will calculate the things and understand the killer is Zane Atlas."

Jammy held his chin.

Xavier and the others watched Zane in the darkness and they didn’t know the man had such things inside him.

"What will you get from all this?" Hena asked.

Zane tilted his head.

"Fun."

"What?" Draxus exclaimed. "You will risk all this for fun?"

Zane rolled his eyes.

"Did you not hear a word that I said? There is no risk. I am already wanted. What worse could happen if they get to know I am a killer as well?"

"You are not seeing the bigger picture here, kid." Jammy held Zane’s shoulders.

"The Simmers will become your enemy. They will be after your life if they find out you are the killer. You will go to return the Relic in the Cathedral, what if the Emberlord used this kill against you? What do you think will happen to a gutterborn who dared to kill a Scepter?

They will want you dead. Yes, they already want you dead but now they will have a reason. Can you fight with all of them? Think this through. Don’t let ego cloud your mind."

"Yes." Hena chimed. "The Simmers are stubborn. They will not let you live in peace. And even if you stay alive from them, what is the guarantee that Milo could do the same? You killed one of their family and they will not think twice before killing one of your family. Are you willing to have fun at the expense of putting your most beloved person’s life on the line?"

Zane’s eyes lost their glint.

Milo’s smiling face flashed in front of his eyes and all his planning and thoughts went down the drain.

Jammy let go of Zane’s shoulders.

The janitor had no worries now.

Hena mentioned the right person at the right time.

Zane went silent and sat on the stairs once more.

No one said anything and the next second...

SLAP!

Zane slapped himself.

Hard.

Harder.

Many times back to back.

No one stopped him.

Xavier wanted to stop it but Tesla stopped the man.

"Read the room." The merchant said.

Xavier frowned. "I can’t read it in such darkness."

"Just stop talking." Tesla forgot Xavier’s brain worked on limited cells.

Eventually, Zane finished slapping himself.

He stood up, snatched the lighter from Jammy.

"I have decided." He said and Jammy smiled.

"Yes. Discarding dead bodies is the rig-"

"The dead bodies will remain as they are."

"Motherfuc—"
