Spirit's Ascension

Chapter 129—Sneaking Around

The young nurse performed a few more things before quickly leaving the room to Cole.

Cole wasted no time and began preparing himself to leave the room; he lay on the bed again and took a little care of his surroundings.

"Time to head back home."

"I wonder if Bryan will be home now," Cole thought while he closed the door and proceeded to leave the building.

Outside the building, Cole observed his academy watch that he had neglected for a while now, trying to decide where exactly he should hold on.

"Should I head towards the hostel first or the mission hall?"

He thought about it for a while before deciding to head towards the mission hall first.

"This can’t wait for that long anymore," Cole said with urgency.

"Today is the First day of my seven-day penalty period."

His muscles tensed up as he got ready to begin a sprint towards the mission hall, and with a soft boom, Cole was flung out like a kite.

Cole’s top speed was quite impressive even though he wasn’t actively using any abilities, and in no time he arrived at the mission hall.

Since he had been planning from the night before, Cole knew not to charge straight into the mission hall.

"We will be playing the sneaky game this time," Cole muttered.

With the piece of clothing he was able to get from the Head nurse, Cole covered most of his body and tried to blend in.

Though this could be considered an overt instead of a covert one, Cole had a reason for that. Waltzing into the mission hall, which was much more quiet than it was the last time Cole was here.

Inside the hall, Cole observed his surroundings with utmost care. He scanned for the man that met them previously, but he just couldn’t find him.

He moved from the top section to the bottom section of the hall, but he just couldn’t find the person.

In addition to his slightly weird dressing, Cole attracted the attention of the workers in the hall, causing a whisper to erupt among them.

"What’s with this weird kid," one of them said to the other with a loud enough voice that even Cole could hear.

Realizing that the man wasn’t probably going to be coming here now, Cole could only reluctantly.

"My sneaky attempt didn’t actually work; the target wasn’t even around," he muttered to himself.

Cole’s plan was actually to enter the hall dressed in a strange manner, attracting everyone’s attention, the man included.

If he could get the man’s attention, he would begin questioning the workers on random things related to a specific male worker and making sure they could hear.

He knew the man would have an unusual reaction, and that would be his chance, but none of that could work now.

As Cole left the mission hall, there wasn’t much thought in his head as he just directly returned home.

"I will be back soon," he said to himself.

He quickly got rid of his weird disguise and began sprinting towards the hostel.

In no time, Cole arrived at his destination, and upon entering the room, he was disappointed to find no one there.

"He must have left to attend class or something,"

Cole proceeded to head towards his bed and sat in a lotus position to begin cultivation.

The instant he got the first influx of Life energy into him, a sigh of relief suddenly escaped his mouth.

"The quality is so different," he muttered.

Since he was back in an area with high-quality life energy, Cole switched back to slowly chanting the mantra since he knew the normal pace would cause quite a disturbance.

Cole’s cultivation session went extremely smoothly up until Bryan arrived.

"How were classes?" Cole asked.

"We actually didn’t head to class today, so Linda and I went ahead to give the full mission report. We didn’t know you would be back so soon," he said with a smile.

"The people at the health center are quite competent," Cole responded with an equally big smile.

The two of them maintained the smile until Cole observed the smile slowly fading away from Bryan’s face as he turned quite serious.

"What exactly happened?"

Cole’s heart immediately skipped a beat while he heard that for reasons known only to himself.

"Uhmmm," he stuttered while thinking of the right thing to say.

He knew he wasn’t supposed to disclose the full details of what Isaac shared with him, but he just couldn’t leave his friend without anything.

A very notable level of trust had been built between them while they were doing the mission, so Cole felt a little assured.

In the end, Cole decided to give Bryan a skimmed overview of what happened, making sure he didn’t share too many details.

Despite not fully disclosing everything to Bryan, Cole could see the seriousness on his face as he ruminated.

"Sighhh, this is big," Bryan finally said.

Cole, on the other hand, sighed more in his mind since he knew things were even much deeper than Bryan thought.

The duo spoke till night and almost began falling when the evening sun was hanging low before Cole got up again to leave the room.

"Time to go check up on this man," Cole said.

He didn’t take his disguise this time as he left the hostel with strong and confident steps.

He strolled leisurely, and after a while he arrived at the mission hall.

Cole didn’t enter immediately like he did in the afternoon; instead, he moved towards a dark area and stood there, waiting patiently.

He watched people move in and out of the mission hall slowly, but he still couldn’t find who he was actually looking for.

"Isn’t he a worker here?" Cole wondered.

As more time flew by and Cole waited for the man to get out of the building. The evening slowly vanished and got replaced by the darkness of night.

"Maybe he isn’t coming today," he said while he got ready to leave the spot.

Before he could take a step, he suddenly caught sight of someone coming out of the back of the building, and a small smile appeared on his face.

"Found you," he said excitedly.
