What Do You Mean I Have To Comprehend Dao As A Mortal God?

We spent an entire hour clearing that one building of Anomalies, finding a few more of those big monkey wolf hybrids that were just hanging out within the building that we took care of.

Yeah... This took way too long... I think if we aren’t planning to fortify the buildings, it would be easier to just flatten them all instead.

I could do that right now of course, but I think it’s better if we only did that after we were ready to start clearing this rift or at least have a second opinion on whether this place should be flattened or not.

For all I know, the army might want to fortify this place and they would much prefer the buildings intact or something.

Dan definitely did not want to go through another building so we just called it a day and returned to the camp, finding everyone still gathered around the portal where the survey team were hunched over a machine and looking at the monitors showing all kinds of data that I have no idea what any of them meant.

"How’s things here?" I asked, looking at Liliac who was seated on a chair grown out from the plants while she fiddled with one of said plants.

"Ah! Welcome back M... Qing! Umm... Everything has been quiet so far... No... Umm... No other Anomalies showed up..."

I nodded in the direction of the Vanguards, "Anyone gave you any trouble?"

She shook her head, "They’re just staying away from me... I guess they are afraid of me?"

I chuckled, "No, no... You’re a Guardian now, Liliac. So you’re like a celebrity who they don’t know how to act in front of."

"They don’t... Really seem that welcoming though?"

"They’re just jealous you got the Guardian position and not them. Don’t worry about it."

She turned to look at the Vanguards from under her hood who were busy pretending to be occupied by other things while they spied on us from afar and whispering amongst themselves.

I’m not feeling any malicious intent from them but I’m certainly feeling some sort of resentment? No... Not resentment... Dissatisfaction might be a better word for it.

Though most of that feeling came from the other worlders instead of the local humans so I believe they’re just Guardian candidates who were rejected in the last selection tests.

Well... If things proceed as I believe they will... I think we might hold another Guardian recruitment in the future anyway so they’ll still have a chance to join up in the future.

Dan also turned in that direction and scratched his head, "They taking a little bit long ah? Why they not finished yet?"

I shrugged and decided to go over to the survey team to check things out myself.

I stepped up behind them and cleared my throat, "Ahem... Any problems?"

They jumped in surprise at my presence, all of them having been so focused on the screens that they did not even notice me approach them.

The leader of the team, a bespectacled young man who was wearing a collared shirt and dress pants, nodded his head at me, "It’s taking a little longer than normal... Which I believe it’s because of the buildings around us that are interfering with the scan... Nothing new though, it’ll just take extra time."

I looked around the street, "Do you want us to flatten some of the buildings or something?"

"There’s no need. Ah! Or maybe... You can take these antennas and place it on top of three of the tallest buildings around here? That would definitely speed things up."

He then gestured towards three rod shaped things that were laying on the ground.

I raised an eyebrow at him, I don’t know how to set it up though?"

He waved his hand at me, "There’s no need to worry! All you need to do is to just plant them on the ground and it will deploy itself, no need for anything complicated at all. If you could do that, then it should speed things up here greatly. But..."

His voice trailed off as he turned to look at the buildings around us, "You mentioned that there were still Anomalies hiding in the buildings right? If it’s too dangerous, you don’t have to do it. We can just wait for this thing to finish."

"How long will the time be cut if we place the antennas?"

"I’d say it should cut it down by at least a day or two."

What the heck? I was thinking this survey thing would only take a few hours! Not days!

Yeah, might as well just do it then.

I grabbed the antennas off the ground and nodded at him, "We’ll set it up."

I went over to Dan and Liliac who had watched the entire interaction unfold.

"You gonna put those antennas up?" Dan asked.

I stretched out my palm towards them, "Three antennas, three buildings, three of us. I think that means one for each of us, right?"

He raised an eyebrow at me, "Ha? You can just fly up the building and just plant them there, right? Why the heck do you need the two of us to climb up the building? You stupid ah?"

"Yeah, you know I can fly but these people don’t. Don’t you think they would get suspicious if they realised I set up the antennas really quickly?"

Dan grimaced, "Wah lau... You want me to climb up a building by myself and fight off the Anomalies inside it? Gonna take me hours, bro..."

I shook my head, "You can take the building we cleared earlier. That one’s already cleared of Anomalies so you just need to focus on climbing the stairs itself. I’ll find another building and fly up the side to plant mine."

He then turned to raise an eyebrow at Liliac, "Her leh? You want her to climb one alone ah?"

She poked her hands together, "Umm... I can... Use the plants to... Lift me up... The side of the building..."

Dan looked down on the wooden chair she was sitting on and was reminded that the girl sitting in front of him literally could control plants and this city was overflowing with them.

Yeah, that’s the reason why I figured that she would be fine.

I’m pretty sure even if she met one of those big monkey wolf hybrid Anomalies, she could handle it just fine with her abilities.

I’m more worried about Dan since he might be able to tank them but he doesn’t really have much power to kill them himself. So he might as well just work on climbing those stairs.

Am I doing it on purpose? Of course I am, heh heh heh.

Payback for all the shit talk he has given me.

He obviously knew that as he snatched one of the antennas away from me before rolling his eyes at me, "I’m gonna take my time with this ah. Don’t blame me if I slow."

I grinned at him, "Don’t worry, I won’t."

Liliac also picked up one of the antennas before looking at the Vanguards, "Umm... Will they be alright without any of us here?"

"Don’t worry, I’ll set mine up fast and watch over them from a distance. They’ll be ok."

She nodded, "I’ll... I’ll also set mine up fast and come back here quickly, Qing."

"Alright, prioritise your own safety. If you need help, just shout and I will come rushing over."

"Help~ I need help~" Dan cried out mockingly.

I swatted him on the shoulder which he dodged before chuckling and giving me a backwards wave while he set off towards the building that we cleared earlier.

Liliac gave him a worried look before turning to me, "Will he be ok?"

"He’ll be fine. I’ll make sure to watch over both of you, don’t worry about it."

She nodded at me before she looked around to search for a tall building that she could plant the antenna at before heading off as well.

I did the same, moving towards another building at the far end of the street to make sure that the camp here wouldn’t be able to see me using my other powers.

When I reached the building I was aiming for, the thought of just using Kris’s ability to levitate myself crossed my mind again, only for me to decide that I wanted to try something different this time.

Thus, instead of just flying up, I simply lowered myself into a crouch and used my enhanced strength to kick off the ground and leap high into the air.

I actually flew up several floors before gravity reasserted its influence on me but I grabbed onto a ledge before I could fall off.

I then flung myself up a few more floors and did the same thing again. Just as I grabbed onto the next ledge to prepare myself to throw myself up the last few floors, the walls suddenly exploded out and I found an Anomaly charging through the wall I was grabbing to barrel into me.

Are you serious?!! At this height?!!
