Chapter 660 - It’s my turn
It wasn’t just Jaron. Battal was rather shocked and furious that his meeting had been interrupted. He should have kept the bodyguards at the entrance and not all of them inside. A foolish mistake. One he would not make again.
"Whoever you are, this is a closed meeting." Battal’s voice was cold, commanding. "In other words, you are trespassing."
But Voren’s gaze was only on Jaron, his eyes burning with cold fury. "Alpha Jaron, how do we settle this?" His voice was deceptively calm, each word as sharp as a blade. "You tried to kidnap my little girl and almost got my brother killed. You have also conspired with our enemies against our kind."
He tilted his head, his expression unreadable. "As a former leader, you must already have a fair idea of the punishment for your sins."
Jaron was nervous, his hands trembling at his sides. But Battal was not used to being ignored, so he spoke again, still pretending not to have seen Voren before.
Luckily, he had come with another wizard except this one was dressed in a suit, so nobody could tell he was a wizard.
"Leave now, whoever you are, and I will pretend that you didn’t come in here." Battal’s face was expressionless, a mask of ice.
Voren’s eyes darted around him, taking in the room, the guards, the wizard in the suit. "Since you are good at pretending, let’s play along." His voice was flat, dismissive. "I don’t care who you are and what shit you are discussing. I have come to render justice, and you either stay and watch, or get the fuck out."
Fury pumped into Battal so much that he wanted to explode. His carefully constructed mask cracked, revealing the rage beneath. "I am the Lycan King." His voice rose, sharp with indignation. "You dare not talk to me like that."
Voren glared at him, unflinching. "And I am the Alpha King." His voice was ice. "What makes you think you can talk to me however you like?"
Battal turned to the man at his side, his gaze questioning. But the man only shook his head, his expression grim. "He’s protected by the powers of the mythical stone. You have to go physical."
The wizard Battal had faced Voren with before, Jamal, had still not recovered from his injury. And this new wizard was also unable to destroy Voren’s wolf from within?
That should have been the easiest way since the injured wizard had already informed this one about Voren’s fighting skills.
He was the only werewolf to match the Lycans in strength head on. One that not even Battal had been able to defeat for the first time in his life.
"I don’t see the mythical stone anywhere around him," Battal pointed out, his voice cold.
The wizard replied, his voice low and troubled. "He doesn’t have to carry it around. He wore it with the crown, so his wolf has harvested its powers. It’s impossible to attack his wolf now."
Voren was only realizing that the glow from the stones in the crown and the necklace was the result of Bloodfang harvesting their powers.
Battal closed his eyes in deep thought, his jaw tight with frustration. Both the crown and the mystical stone belonged to the Lycans, but the werewolves had stolen them and were already harvesting their powers.
This would not have been possible if they had another white wolf but something else came to mind, a dangerous thought.
"Do you think you can take us down alone?" Battal’s voice was cold, calculating. "You don’t have that buff wolf and the white wolf by your side. Besides, you owe us. Your pack member killed one of our own."
Voren smiled, though it didn’t reach his eyes. "You have finally dropped the pretense." His voice was soft, dangerous.
"And who said I need the buff and white wolf to take you down?" He paused, letting the words hang. "About the death of your own, did you expect my brother to stay back and watch your member kill him? No, he defended himself." His eyes narrowed. "Meaning you Lycans aren’t as strong as you think."
For the first time, he saw raw anger on Battal’s face, the mask crumbling completely. Never had anyone dared to insult them like this.
It was good to hit where it hurts most. But Voren did not allow him to speak before asking, his voice casual, almost curious. "Have you asked yourself where this is?"
Battal was confused and angry, yet his expression changed back to its usual emotionless mask. "What are you talking about? This is the outlands. No man’s land. Every creature is allowed the freedom to roam."
"Good." Voren smirked. "But you have to know who controls the outlands." He gestured toward the window. "Why don’t you look through the window?"
Jaron was shocked to hear this about Voren. He controlled the outlands? No one knew about that. But now it was clear to him how Voren was able to easily locate his whereabouts. The outlanders were his eyes, his ears, his network.
Battal looked through the window, his eyes widening at the sight. The outlanders had surrounded the hotel, their forms shadowy in the dim light. "What is this?" he asked, unable to hide his anger.
Voren explained calmly, his voice carrying absolute authority. "You can walk out quietly and let me handle the canker surrounding my packs, or I can make it impossible for you to enter that underground pack of yours."
Everyone around began to panic, their eyes darting between Voren and Battal. How was a werewolf able to know of their underworld? Was he also able to crack the spell to give him entry? No, they were certain no one could. That was impossible.
Besides, entering the werewolf territory was like signing a death warrant. "Fine." Battal’s voice was tight. "I’ll stay and watch. We can continue this meeting after you leave."
Voren scoffed, unwilling to tell them about his plans. However, the moment he grabbed Jaron by the collar and lifted him up, Bloodfang spoke in his mind, his voice eager and hungry. ’Finished having your fun? It’s my turn.’
