Chapter 137: Showcasing the Overpowered

“I believe all of you understand that all matters discussed here are confidential. Regardless of what any of you think. This is the matter of natural security. Remember that the completion of this task comes with a great reward. The highest honor we can give.” The man hosting the meeting said. Certainly quite a promise of someone only a few steps down from the highest level of power in the country.
Everyone else in the room, be it the other agents, or the explorers who were requested to come here, all feel the gravity of the situation. Yet it was built up on so many layers of falsehood. Who truly knows how much each of the officials even actually know the truth of the matter.
“...So why us? Surely you have a lot more capable people around, right?” One of the explorers said, his face remaining stiff.
“The other capable people you are talking about are already under our service. We are looking out for more talents.” The man at the helm said with a straight face. “Now let us say everything one more time to all of you. With the entire world needing time to repair. We are in a period of peace. With that, we want all of you to join us under the banner of our great nation. We will purge all the conspiracies in our country, all the disorders, and even against other nations that no doubt think to do the same. The reward will be enough money to serve your family for over a lifetime, and the greater honor we can bestow.”
“...So what exactly are the examples of… whatever threats you are talking about? You talk about those ruined labs before, but what about… criminal gangs and such?” Another explorer asked.
“We will be determining that later. But we do have an introductory mission for all of you to partake in. For those who are interested.” He replied. “As I talked about before, we will provide everything needed for your success. Even as we speak, knowing that your friends and family could be in trouble, some of our men choose to stay behind to keep them safe while all of you are occupied.”
The room grew colder. Despite the reassurance such a statement should bring. With the general distrust against the government, those words sound more like a threat.
“I’m sure all of you are willing to partake with those promises in mind.” The man continued to talk. It is anything but reassuring. The other men in black with their guns out certainly makes it clear that they do not want a ‘no’ from anyone in the room. Even if they have no intention of doing something so drastic, the possibility of it would deter most.
“...What even is the first mission?” One of the explorers asked.
“I want you to apprehend or convince those supernatural humans who had been sighted and not met with any consequence. There are a few names we have listed down. Not all of them are criminals, exactly. But we want them under our jurisdiction.” The man said. Heh, now whoever could he mean by that? “If at all possible. I want all of you to move in groups. Who knows what these things are capable of? I think in a group, all of you should be able to subdue them.”
“...Can we get some specifics? Like who are we supposed to…” One of them asked. They all look rather reluctant to do this mission, but they clearly are afraid of saying no.
Very few would dare to speak up against a figure of power no matter how much grievances they actually have. No matter how much they complain, in the face of it they often fold.
“Hmm… I suppose the most high profile one should be the first to go. There is one such person in Pennsylvania I want you to find. She has been on our list for the longest time. No one was able to find her. Not even the people at that institute will say where she is…” He said with a sense of frustration. “This individual is called Wiina. A woman with white hair and striking light blue eyes. We searched high and low for her and came up short. Perhaps a more drastic approach would lure her out, but without a reliable way to subdue her, that is simply not happening. So if you all can come together and subdue her for us. That would be greatly appreciated. We will prepare rewards for that specific-
*Clap* *Clap* *Clap*
No one seems to be certain as to where the sounds of clapping came from, they all looked around, the guards with their guns up are trying to find the source, but can only see empty space.
“You all seem to be having a great time at this party. Mind if I join in?” I said from behind the host of the meeting before slowly fading into view.
He quickly jumped out of his seat with the pistol now in his hand, aiming right at me alongside the other guards aiming their guns at me. The explorers are all confused and completely overwhelmed by the change in atmosphere.
“Well isn’t this a cold reception? I suppose it is winter.” I said casually as I rested my right arm on the chair of the host. “Here I thought I was welcome here? What’s with all the guns? I thought you guys wanted to capture me and strapped me down for dissection… Oh right! Most of those underground labs are all wrecked, aren’t they? You probably have very little in stock.”
“What the hell are you doing here!?” The man said, barely able to retain composure.
“I simply waltz in like anyone else. If all those people can be here, why can’t I?” I said with a smirk. “But let’s cut to the chase then. It seems like you want to capture me with all of these people you and those above you have requested. How amusing that you think they even have the slightest bit of chances.”
The people in question are all frozen at their seats, unwilling to move due to the tension of the scene playing out in front of them.
“Aren’t all too effective, are they?” I mockingly stated. “Oh? It seems like some faces I expected to be here aren’t? Guess there are powerful people not all too fond of you.”
I know that many of these people are not the strongest from whatever area they were in. Guess a lot have chosen to refuse the call. How wise of them, this meeting and all the mission statement was doomed to fail anyhow. It would’ve been a waste of time.
“All of you! If you can help us capture her, each of you can get a billion dollars!” He suddenly shouted out to the explorers. Some with their eyes light up by greed, quickly getting out of their seat, the others look skeptical and don't act. “I don’t care what state this conference room is in by the end! Capture her!”
Looks like they want to try out these new toys they acquired already. How impatient.
*Sizz* *Splash* *Whirl* *Zap*
None of them have any weapons of their own, being confiscated before entering the meeting room, they all simply chose to yell out and aim their spells right at me, all of which simply dissipates before even making contact. Not even a single blemish on my body.
“Wrong choice.” I replied to the assailants.
*Dash* *Grab* *Throw* *Crash*
I get close and grab one of the attackers, throwing him right into another one before others could even fully process the start of the counterattack.
*Bang* *Bang* *Bang*
A few agents now try to attack me with their firearms, all of which missed me or didn't do any real damage as I zipped around the room, some bullets ricocheted and caused the onlookers to ducked down, trying to not be in the crossfire.
*Dash* *Kick* *Leap* *Grab*
I ran up to one of the agents and kicked the gun away from his hands, jumping up to reach it while the others paused the firing so as to not accidentally hit their fellow agents.
“Never seen a model like this before.” I playfully remarked before sneakily absorbing it into my own body with no one seeing what actually happened. Then I replicate it into two pistols with a special ammo type I come up with, each in my hand. “But I bet this is more deadly to you guys than to me.”
“You think those will scare us!?” One of the people choosing to fight me instead of denying such an asinine request shouted out.
*Bang* *Boom*
I gave him a warning shot, grazing him slightly before the bullet hit the wall behind him, exploding on contact and sending him and the others nearby tumbling.
“W-What the hell was that!?” Someone shouted in shock at the sudden turn of events. Just some explosive bullets, no big deal.
*Swing* *Block* *Smack*
One guy tried to run up at me and swing his fist, to which I merely blocked it with my hand still holding the pistol and hitting him with the back of it, causing him to fall over in shock from the pain.
*Kick* *Smack*
Two more guys came over and I kicked one away, hitting him right in the chest, then turning around to smack the other guy with the back of the pistol.
**Bang** **Boom**
I then shoot from both guns at the same time in two different directions, causing more chaos as the walls start to lose their integrity and there is now a real possibility of the ceiling caving in.
“Alright, I think I have enough fun with these.” I said before causing the pistols to disappear into dust. I notice many explorers already running away, mostly the ones who aren’t willing to fight in the first place.
*Grab* *Throw* *Crash*
I grabbed one of the fighters that was still reeling in pain close to me and threw him right at another pursuer.
*Bang* *Crash*
I then point my finger towards the ceiling above another attacker and launch an invisible attack that causes a portion of it to collapse on top of them.
*Zap* *Sizz* *Deflect*
I deflected a bolt of lightning back at its caster, then a fireball back at another caster.
*Dash* *Punch* *Dash* *Kick*
I start moving around a bit more and knock out a few more fighters with simple punches and kicks. Each attack causes so much pain they collapse and need time to recuperate, taking them out of the battle.
*Sizz* *Swing* *Swat* *Smack* *Kick*
Someone ran at me with a sword made out of fire, to which I responded in kind by swatting it out of his hand and causing it to dissipate, then I followed up by a smack to the face and a kick to the stomach.
*Swing* *Evade* *Kick* *Punch*
Another one came in with a sword crudely made from earth magic. I casually dodged the attack before I counter with a kick and a punch.
*Sizz* *Splash*
A few people start throwing out multiple fire spells at me to which I countered with a massive torrent of water in all directions, overpowering the spell and leaving many people drenched.
*Throw* *Crack* *Bang*
I grabbed the chair close to me and threw it right at one of the agents who had a gun aimed at me, causing him to stagger and accidentally shoot someone else in the foot. Hmph, talk about bad trigger discipline.
Now this is starting to look like a boring routine even though this had only been happening for only two minutes. I don’t even think all of them have been using their full strength yet, probably because of how crowded the place is so they’re afraid of friendly fire. Maybe a change of scenery will do them some good.
“I think we need a change of scenery. How about a little renovation for this place? In five…” I hold up my right hand and start counting down. Everyone still in the room probably instinctively knows what I’m about to do, they are already readying their weapons or start rushing towards me with spells and fists flying. I release a barrier that bounces anything back before it could touch me, meaning that there is no interrupting this process.
“Four… Three… Two…” I slowly count down while more people either flee or futilely continue the fruitless assault.
“Stop!” Oh. Someone even started begging me. That’s cute.
“One…” The last finger slowly drops down before all that is left is a fist. I then raised it up. I opened my palm.
*Shine* *BOOM*
A blinding light enveloped the area. A large shockwave burst out and engulfed everything and everyone.
…The building is completely gone. Only the remnants of the floor and small chunks of the walls can be discerned.
“Hmph. How pathetic. It wasn’t even aimed at any of you.” I said, looking at everyone else who is still around. It was more of a show than an attack. They are all still alive, not actually hit by the spell itself.
“Haaah!” Someone yelled out as he aimed his right hook at me.
*Grab* *Twist*
“Oh dear. Did you think that attack took too much out of me? What a naive thought.” I mockingly said while twisting his arm.
*Kick*
I kicked him away while the others were still confused and afraid.
*Shine*
“Oh? That’s cute.” I see a group of fighters in the back forming a large ball of energy by pouring all of their energy together.
“See if you can deal with this!” The one to finally launch the attack screamed out.
*Launch* *Grab*
“H-Huh!?” I lazily grabbed the attack telekinetically and left all of them stupefied.
“...The White House is that way, right?” I said with a smirk as I looked in its direction. I can see the face of the agents turning pale.
*Throw*
“No!” One of them yelled out once I threw the ball of energy in that direction.
*BOOM*
All of them are left aghast at my actions.
“Come on now. It was just a little scare.” I aimed and detonated the attack just right above it, probably destroying the roof, but that’s about it. I make sure to throw the attack at just the right spot.
Sounds of helicopters and jets rang out loudly soon after as everyone else tried to figure out how to deal with the situation.
*Bang* *Bang* *Bang* *Bang* *Bang*
Sounds of machine guns firing on top of me drowned everything out. Just a bunch of tiny pebbles. They’re doing nothing but wasting resources.
*Boom* *Boom*
Then the missiles come in. At this point can I even really be certain that they want to capture me and not kill?
*Fly* *Zip* *Grab*
“H-Huh!?” From within the smoke of the explosions, I flew up to one of the helicopters and grabbed the one manning the machine gun, holding him by the scruff of his neck as I floated there.
“Best to not waste any more bullets, I would say.” I said before encasing him in a transparent bouncy bubble.
*Kick* *Crash* *Bounce* *Kick* *Crash* *Bounce* *Kick* *Crash* *Bounce* *Kick* *Crash* *Bounce* *Kick* *Crash* *Bounce* *Kick* *Crash* *Bounce* *Kick* *Crash* *Bounce* *Kick* *Crash* *Bounce* *Kick* *Crash* *Bounce* *Kick* *Crash* *Bounce* *Grab*
I kicked him around in the air and hit every flying vehicle in the area, causing them all to be damaged and slowly falling down to its destruction. Each successive combo grows fast as more velocity builds up. Before finally, I catched the ball and let it fall back down to the ground once all flying units were gone.
I gently floated back down to the ground while the others looked on in horror. That interaction lasted for roughly nine seconds, too fast for them to fully process everything in detail.
Those pilots and the others are barely alive. They aren’t too far off the ground for the fall to instantly kill them.
Meanwhile the man in the bubble is definitely not conscious anymore. All that bouncing around probably wrecked most of his body and would’ve killed him if I was an amatuer spell caster.
I then summoned all of those pilots out of the debris before presenting them in front of the others, healing them a bit so they can actually recover at a later date, but leaving them looking bloodied.
*Snap*
I snapped my finger and all the agents immediately fell asleep. Leaving only the explorers conscious. Just one single spell, and many are immediately incapacitated.
It was never a real fight in the first place. I only let the fight dragged out like this because a quick end to the fight wouldn’t really drill the message into their head.
Standing alone with a mountain of bloodied men nearby. The destroyed building that was pristine only a few minutes ago. The multiple aircrafts in tatters on the ground with smokes floating out.
“I believe a message has been sent.” I said with a satisfied smile. “Now you should understand who is truly at the top of this new world.”
All this stuffy nonsense? Leave it behind. No one really needs them anymore. Especially when they are the ones causing all the trouble in the first place.
They should have a gripe with the one who brought them here in the first place, but that is not an opinion I can control, but at least I can make them not dared to have such a thought, by searing the terror into their minds.
“I suggest all of you leave.” I said with a smile, all the while they looked at me, completely terrified. “If you want to live.”
I raised my arm again.
*Shine*
Forming a large amount of spears of light aiming at everyone still present. The amounts in the hundreds and blinding the area in a bright white light. Now that gets the one still awake to start moving and screaming out of the area for good. Completely terrified and now prioritize their survival above all else.
*Swing* *SHINE*
I swung the spears of light down and caused the area to be completely engulfed by it.
