Chapter 122: Returning Monkey

———Jeff———

<2: 17 pm>

“That news aside, wasn’t there something else to talk about?” Gregori brings up after finishing his burger. He looks a bit uncomfortable, holding his head for a moment as he seems to try to remember something.

“What are you talking about?” Qyunda asked, puzzled as to what else is there to seriously discuss.

“Well, it is a very pressing matter, so it’s a bit odd that we never talked about it until now.” He said, as if trying to delay the issue. Why is he being so vague about it?

“Hm? Out with it. What could you possibly be talking about?” Malk asked. Why does the room feel colder? Is it seriously something that important?

“Where is Jennla?” …Hold on, who?

“Jennla? Who are you talking abo- Argh!?” My head! It hurts. What was he talking about? That name sounds… kinda familiar now…

*Shine*

“Huh?” Orrel muttered weakly, probably hit with the same migraine we all got. There seems to be something shining up high in the sky.

What’s going on over there? Someone or something seems to have landed on the streets outside MicKKaz.

*Crash* *Clash*

Something is happening inside the smoke and debris. I can’t quite make out what is going on from here. There seems to be some large power spikes though. Like really strong.

<2: 22 pm>

Coming back from dealing with her and now I have to deal with another person coming here, at least it’s ‘rightfully coming back’ and not ‘forcing herself back’.

Now the problem here is that I didn’t get to do a proper welcome back for her, since someone else decided to come in just at the right time.

*Smash* *Crash*

Emmie swung her fist right into her chest and sent her flying back down into the ground, causing cracks in the road. I know she’s usually not someone who plays nice, but she knows people won’t ignore the collateral damages, right? Do I really need to step in for this?

*Leap* *Grapple* *Crackle*

She quickly recovered and jumped up towards Emmie who was floating in the sky, the two continuing their exchanges, throwing out punches and kicks that grazed each other with only a few connecting, and the two then grabbed onto each other, struggling to overpower the other.

The clash becomes quite intense as the mana exudes around them starting to spill out into elemental reactions, tiny sparks of light appearing as the fight goes on.

*Punch* *Kick* *Zip*

The scrapping continued as each punch and kick landed and sent each other flying, starting to leave the confines of the town and moving into a different area, leaving the others confused and unable to follow the flow of battle. I can observe it just fine from here, but I’m an exception in many regards.

*Ring* *Ring* *Beep*

“What’s up, Karra.” I greeted her, already knowing what she’s going to ask next.

“<What’s up!? You know ‘what’s up’! What is going on up there?>” She yelled at me through the call. I’m surprised she worked up over this incident specifically. “<What the hell was that headache just now? No way you didn’t notice that!>”

“It’s not as complicated of a story as the last person, and just like the previous one I don’t have the full story to myself. Don’t worry about it and wait for her to come and explain. Right now it seems that Emmie had ambushed her, probably thinking she’s an intruder.” Unlike with her I’m sure she is willing to lay out all the details for us after the fight is over.

“<’Her’? Who is fighting Emmie right now? I can feel the mana from here, so whoever it was had to at least match her.>” She asked, still sounding rather apprehensive. Guess she wouldn’t know even after the aftermath of her return causing quite the ripple in everyone’s memories.

“Best to wait for the end to this. I’ll keep a lookout to make sure they’re not causing any massive collateral damage.” I said while gently floating towards the battle to get a better look and be in a good place to step in and quickly deescalate things if either side is using massive attacks.

“<Okay? I guess I’ll leave it to you.>” She replied, finally relaxing a bit before hanging up on me.

*Punch* *Tackle* *Crash*

Emmie punches her in the face then tackles her, sending her flying towards a nearby building and causing a small crack on impact. I need to mend these damages to make sure nothing goes wrong in the future, and so that these two won’t get in any trouble by the end of this. Emmie might be willing to threaten violence and more to get a free pass, but I don’t really know how she would respond to it now that she came back. How long was she staying on the other side?

*Zap* *Kick* *Crash*

She sent a bolt of lightning towards Emmie, causing her to flinch on impact and give her enough time to recover and lunge towards her, kicking her towards the ground and giving her some room to breathe.

“Whoa there, what are you two doing? Having fun without me?” Before the fight could continue, Kenni suddenly joined the fray, one of the present day, of course. She is definitely not someone who likes the peaceful option if it’s not as interesting. “Jennla, old buddy, old pal. You come back and the first thing you choose to do is violence? What’s with that wild long hair? Been living as a caveman or something?”

Wow, out of all the comments she could’ve made, it’s that?

“Don’t interfere, Kenni.” Emmie said with a glare directed at the crow. “I’ll be the one to assess her ability.”

“Wait. What the hell? So you all did recognize me…” Jennla said, looking rather bewildered and a bit offended. Was she under the impression that no one recognized her which is why Emmie had jumped her the moment she came back? Looks like she was planning to subdue Emmie before explaining herself in full. “Then what was that for!?”

“I heard those who disappeared mysteriously tend to come back with great power. Considering that entrance of yours and the battle so far, that saying seems to be correct.” Emmie smugly said. “Let us continue…”

“Hey hold on!” Realizing that she was being played for a fool, Jennla loses her will to fight and probably also her combat effectiveness. This is far from the best place for this.

*Zip* *Clash*

“Hey, what is this about?” Emmie’s tone turned sour as Kenni intercepted her flight path towards Jennla, raising a fist to match hers and stopping her momentum.

“She seems to be way less interested in fighting now, realizing that there was never a need in the first place. I don’t think it’d be fun for you, specifically.” Kenni ominously replied.

“Hmph. Do what you want then.” Having her mood ruined and knowing that fighting two people at once would lead to either total destruction or herself in the dirt, Emmie had no choice but to back down. In this open space where flight is much more effective, Kenni with her superior air mobility would win even by her lonesome. I’m sure Emmie will hold this grudge for later.

“Now then. Why don’t we have some fun ourselves? You didn’t use up that much energy. You have plenty to spare, don’t you?” Kenni said as she floated towards Jennla, who quickly recomposed herself once she realized what was happening.

*Shine* *Spark*

Kenni raised her two arms and formed a giant ball of purple lightning.

*Hurl* *Zip*

She hurled it right at Jennla who flew up high in the sky to avoid the attack that could possibly blow up in her face and take down a few buildings with it.

*Clash*

“Urgh!” Jennla is struggling to push the attack back, or more specifically trying to take control of it and send it in a direction where it wouldn’t collide with anything and causing more problems later on.

*Bang* *BOOM* *Crack* *Crash*

Before she could take control of it, Kenni sent out a small blast that caused the attack to blow up right in her face, sending her flying many miles back before crashing into a few trees inside a forest. Hopefully that wasn’t a nature reserve that she just crash landed into…

“What? Just a bit of an explosion and you’re already out?” Kenni taunted as she catched up to the monkey girl who is buried in the sea of felled trees. She stays floating up in the sky, looking down and waiting for a reaction. “You know, with all of your old rambling about isekai stories, I’d thought the trope of someone coming back more hardened would’ve been true. Maybe you need a little bit more motivation.”

*Shine*

Kenni pointed her hand down at the crash site, forming a large ball of light aiming for where Jennla is buried.

*Throw* *Hurl* *Block*

Before she could fire the attack, a bunch of broken trees were thrown in her direction, forcing her to change the property of her spell and morphing it into a shield of light that blocks all the incoming projectiles that break into hundred pieces on impact, even pushing her back a little bit.

*Leap* *Kick*

Jennla launched herself into the sky and stopped right in front of Kenni and sent her flying upward with a kick.

*Swing* *Evade*

She flies up after her for another attack, but Kenni with her superior mid-air movement easily moves out of the way and flies out of Jennla’s attack range.

*Crackle* *Zap*

“Agh!” As Jennla tried to keep up with Kenni and her greater agility, Kenni fired multiple bolts of lightning at her, causing her to lose her focus due to the shock and made her slow down and almost lose control of her flight ability.

*Zip* *Kick*

Kenni followed up by flying straight towards Jennla and kicking her right in the gut, sending her flying in a straight line towards a different scenery, with Jennle barely recovering herself before hitting another building. We’re back in a town… No, this is Philadelphia, isn’t it? I recognize those landmarks.

This in itself is causing quite a stir. I can already see a few people down on the ground noticing the two fighting. Doesn’t help by Emmie following them around silently, jumping on top of the tallest building to get a better look at their fight.

“Come on now. You did more damage to Emmie, didn’t ya? You didn’t even get a single clean hit against me.” Kenni smugly said, pointing at herself.

*Punch* *Evade*

“Whoa! That was close. The heck was that?” Kenni managed to barely get out of the way. Jennla punched the air and released a strong pressure through the air almost like an invisible bullet. Like one of those kung-fu movies with their inner-energy attack and such.

*Punch* *Crack*

“Ouhf- Agh! Ow!” Kenni tried to remain composed as the second attack managed to hit her left shoulder, dislocating it and causing some minor cracks to form.

*Shine* *Punch* *Punch* *Crack*

She puts out an energy barrier that shines brightly, covering her in all directions, blocking the next few incoming invisible punches, but slowly chipping away with small cracks appearing.

*Zap*

She summoned a few lightning spells up around her that launched towards Jennla, causing her to stop attacking and focus on blocking the attack.

Kenni doesn’t actually follow-up with anything as she keeps the spells going. She is letting it target Jennla and keep her in bay while she tries to recover her broken left arm.

*Kick* *Whirl*

But she does sneak in an upward kick that manipulates the air around her, forming a blade going towards Jennla and breaking her guard, causing the other spells to get a good hit in and make her take the full brunt of these dangerous lightning spells. Kenni is really fighting like she’s going for the kill.

*Zip*

Once the spells are over she launches herself towards the vulnerable Jennla, disregarding the earlier plan to take her time and aim to give her a right hook.

**Punch**

The end result is both of them swinging their fist at each other’s face, causing them to tumble and break all their concentration, causing them to start plummeting back down to the ground.

Alright then, time to end this little play of theirs

*Clap* *Zoom*

Before those two could hit the ground, I clapped my hands and teleported the three out of here before they could cause more public disruption. Kenni and Jennla are lying on the ground, barely conscious. Looks like they put a lot into those punches. As for Emmie…

“Hmph. I suppose you are here to prevent us from having more fun?” She mockingly asked.

“You know full well there wasn’t any incentive for me to even keep this little play going. Now take these two to wherever and call the rest of your friends. They are probably dying to know what in the blazes is going on.” I firmly said. She already knows my identity through brute force, but Jennla might manage to catch the implications if I am being too casual.

*Clap* *Zoom*

I performed another teleport and sent them all to the top of the convenience store, just so they don’t have to do a big leap off the building and try to leave the campus’ walls.

“I’ll be off. Hopefully none of you will stir up any more trouble.” I said before walking away.
