Chapter 121: Momentum

———Wiina———

<12: 01 pm>

*SMASH* *SPLASH*

I swing my fist down, causing her body to plummet down into the ocean and cause a massive ripple that makes it seems like the ocean is splitting apart.

*Whirl* *Crackle* *Freeze*

A large torrent of ocean water formed into a giant drill aiming straight towards me, freezing into a giant spear of ice that was launched straight at me.

*Launch* *Clash*

The attack was launched at a surprisingly high velocity, coming into contact against my arms trying to block it and starting to push me upwards.

“So damn persistent!” I shouted out.

*Crack* *Scatter*

Injecting mana into and disturbing its structure, I shatter the massive spear into hundreds of pieces, halting the attack.

*Splash* *Fly*

She flew out of the ocean and straight towards me with her body covered in dark energy.

*Grapple* *Spark*

Our hands locked up. She tried to grab me but I reacted to it by pushing my hands towards hers. The energy of the struggle started to build up as electricity flew out in all directions.

*Shine* *Pierce* *Kick*

Laser came out of my two eyes, piercing straight through her own set of eyes and causing her to lose enough focus for me to overpower her and sent her flying back with a kick to the stomach. Despite the beam of light going through her head, that alone isn’t enough to kill her.

“That was one hell of a cheap shot.” She remarked, looking at me with a smirk on her face, already regenerating the parts I seared. “The worst part is that I know full well that’s one of the least surprising things you could do.”

“Hmph. Care to elaborate?” This body could do practically anything, so I have to wonder what she witnessed me doing. Perhaps I could force my mind to peer into the future to see the truth of the matter, but that would feel way too unfair. The last thing someone like me should do is exhaust every possible venue of entertainment.

“Why not try beating the answer out of me?” She said with a large grin on her. The ocean started to form waves as both of us began exuding pressure.

*Glide* *CLASH*

<12: 12 pm>

*Rumble*

“Whoa! The waves are strong this time around.” One of the passengers remarked. What kind of ocean wave is making the cruise ship shaking like this?

Well, as long as the ship won’t tip over, I don’t really care what is happening. People are afraid that the ocean will become a lot more dangerous since there’s no clear difference between the new monster habitat and the normal ocean. Most of those territories are far from the continent, so I can’t see how that will be a problem.

But if it led to them lowering the prices just so people are willing, then who am I to complain. I’ve always wanted to go on one of these ships. So far the experience has been quite nice.

The weather seems pretty good, the food is nice, and more than a few attractions for me to waste my time with.

*SPLASH* *Rumble*

“W-What’s going on!?” Someone shouted out once another rumble happened alongside a sound of something hitting the water very hard. It sounds almost like some sort of natural disaster. What in the world? That couldn’t have been a monster attack, right? There aren’t any known monster territories that are relatively close to the shoreline. Even if there was no self-respecting… anything, would have their ship path get close to those areas, let alone overlapping it.

*Splash* *Tackle*

A shadow seems to move erratically as another sound of water splashing can be heard. Is there something above us?

*Shine* *Spark*

“Eeeek!!!” One woman screamed out loudly as something appeared in the corner of my vision. I turn to look at what is glowing, and I see a giant ball of energy, crackling with energy and have a purple tint to it.

Wait, wait, wait… This isn’t some trick to the eyes, it's a real magical attack! Who- What is causing it to-

*Hurl*

Before I could think further the giant ball of light was hurled right in our direction. It seems to be angled up so it might just barely miss us, which I hope to truly be the case.

“H-Huh!?” I can’t help but scream out once I actually look in the direction the attack is aiming at… What is she doing here!?

*Swat* *BOOM*

She swatted the massive ball of energy away, letting it explode out in the middle of the sky, causing the cloud to disperse wildly. It’s like one of those scenes in the movies, but this is real, very real. It’s an unbelievable sight that I might never see again.

Everything around me is in chaos, people are panicking and most are leaving the deck. Are the sailors and other staff not gonna say anything about this?

*Shine* *BLAST* *Glide*

Wiina raised her right arm and sent out a large beam of light towards whatever is attacking her, who seems to be able to fly just like she is, dodging the beam of light that continues the chase like a heat-seeking missile.

*Split* *Caged*

The light splits up into multiple small beams that quickly catched up and surround the individual inside a cage of light.

*BOOM* *Flash*

“Ugh!” It enclosed and exploded, blinding the surrounding area completely in white light. I can’t make out what happened after that. I think I need a few seconds to recover, at least.

*Crackle* *Zap*

After everything cleared up and I could see again, suddenly multiple bolts of lightning rained down, all hitting Wiina directly and continuously. She managed to hold on and stay in the air, but she is looking a bit shaky from what I can see. Maybe it’s just because it’s still so damn bright I can barely see a thing!? I should at least find a place with a roof!

Soon enough the rain of electricity stopped, and I don’t know if it’s due to the distance, but she doesn’t look like she’s in a worse shape.

*Zip*

Before I could make any more judgement, she disappeared in a flash and I could make out a trail of water in the aftermath, getting almost as high as where I am at. How fast was she moving just now?

*BOOM* *SHINE* *FLASH*

Even after moving away from the cruise ship, I can still see multiple flashes of light and the sound of explosions. It’s like there is a war happening not too far from here…

I still don’t really know what she is fighting. It seems to be something very powerful. My sense is flaring off thanks to how absurd the power output is. Just because I know it’s big doesn’t mean I know the exact number.

…At least we’re not in the crossfire anymore. It seems like the cruise ship stopped for a moment to assess the damages and deal with people panicking… It’s kinda surprising that the ship is even intact.

From the looks of it the two people fighting doesn’t even really pay the ship any mind, probably seeing it as part of the backdrop of the fight, or maybe just a small pebble in the grand scheme of things. Any of those attacks would have sunk the ship or torn it to shreds. We would’ve all died if that ball of light exploded on us.

I can see two shining lights rising up above the clouds, looking like it went up into space… I should go get some drinks, this is a bit too much for me.

<12: 33 pm>

“They spotted what!?” I incredulously asked, finding it hard to… Well. I’m not that surprised it happened, moreso that they even manage to catch a glimpse of a battle on that scale.

“<Yeah. Apparently, a cruise ship making its way towards the European shoreline catches a glimpse of Wiina and a mysterious person fighting up in the sky. People were panicking and such.>” Edea recounted. Let me see here. Surely there are people posting about this already…

“<Seriously? I know things have been getting a bit hectic lately, people getting superpowers and stuff. I didn’t expect something of that scale happening…>” Jackman muttered.

“...Weren’t you living in an area with that dragon roaming around?” I pointed out. And not just a dragon-like person. An actual, genuine dragon. I have Wiina go out and check it for me and everything. Still have no idea where one popped out from. Unless they have diluted dragon blood in their system, nothing like that should happen, and if they do, they’d be turned from the first incident.

“<I mean. She just kinda loves to talk and doesn't really do much else. She was subdued pretty quickly too, though she obviously isn’t apprehended or anything.>” He explained. I guess the scale is a bit different. I don’t think he quite realized how dangerous a dragon actually is though. From Wiina’s assessment, it seems like she was playing around which is why she lost. “<Is she even a dragon or just some weird lizard demi-human?>”

“Who knows. I don’t think lizards can shoot out fire, last I checked.” I said, trying to not sound too confident. I’m not supposed to have that much information about someone many states away from here. “Back on topic. There doesn’t seem to be any videos?”

“<It seems like they were all too panicked to even capture a video, which is saying a lot, doesn’t it.>” Edea said, probably having a slightly smug look on themselves right now with that tone. “<Hmm…>”

Edea sent me a private message, asking me if I have any idea who it could be. Considering that no one in their right mind would fight her, and considering yesterday's incident, there is only one name in mind right now…

“<Didn’t Lremhild say at one point that she saw Wiina flying? I guess this tracks with that.>” Jackman said while I sent Edea the obvious answer. Isn’t he the only one who never gets to see Wiina in action? It would explain why he has a harder time comprehending the situation at hand. Can’t really blame him, he is probably worrying more about feeding his kids. “<Where is she right now?>”

“Probably doing more guild work. She did bitch about it yesterday.” I’m still surprised at how involved she is with all these fighting business. What happened to her modeling gig and her healthy and cheap lifestyle? Surely she got more than a few broken bones that need a lot of money to solve. “By the way, Jack. What are you doing nowadays? Can’t imagine there being a lot of places with good job security, in more ways than one.”

“<Odd jobs, and going into the dungeon. It’s risky, but even a little bit of pay is good.>” He answered. It probably won’t sustain him for that long but I don’t really know the full extent of his budget and such.

“<How are the rates for those? I heard you got pennies despite the risk.>” Edea asked, despite probably having a bunch of data on it they could look up on.

“<At my place, just about average with every other report, so not enough to live off by itself.>” He said with a slight tinge of hopelessness. “<Just have to hope to get good rewards at the end of certain floors.>”

“Yeah. Best of luck to you on that front.” I said to give him some encouragement. I think out of all of us he is having the hardest time. Seemi is living alone, Lremhild can live on pennies somehow, Edea is a nepo baby, and I have Wiina.

Edea sent me another message. Let’s see here…

‘I sent out some drones to investigate, it looks like the battle ended just a few minutes ago, there are traces of their mana reaching the exosphere.’ …That’s basically on the edge of the Earth’s atmosphere, right? Also, what crazy techs do they have to be able to investigate and find all that out in such a short window of time? Where can I get some of that?

“<Thanks for those words, even if it won’t do much.>” He said with a sigh. “<Hm? What is Lremhild typing in the chat?>

———Lerim———

<12: 39 pm>

“Ugh…” I slumped down after sending the message, leaning on the giant corpse. If I’m gonna be forced to fight one of these things, I think being able to brag about it is the least that could be done. This weird stocky quadruped with massive and large trunk isn’t that aggressive, thankfully, but it is very large and tanky. It’s taking a lot out of me to kill just one.

Let me take a picture and send it into the group chat as proof. Just text alone won’t be enough…
