Overpowered Resident Doctor

Chapter 756 - 755: Will Not Give Up

After getting the message, Yan Feifan rushed back to the hospital from home with Duan Yu, heading straight for the Little Red House.

Walking into private room number two on the tenth floor, Yan Feifan saw Dr. Qiu Ge personally conducting a cognitive examination on the patient.

Her two students, along with Yu Beihua and the nurse Xu Ke, were all standing excitedly on the other side of the bed.

The patient’s daughter, Lv Xing, was staring nervously at her father on the bed as he struggled to answer questions, his speech slurred and his face contorted with effort.

Yan Feifan could see that the patient’s gaze was clear enough, but the muscles in his face twitched occasionally from the difficulty of speaking.

Yan Feifan also noticed the patient was wearing a specialized brace on his chest to stabilize his rib cage.

"Did Mr. Lv injure his ribs?"

In response to Yan Feifan’s question, Lv Xing was the first to answer, her expression embarrassed. "Mr. Yan, I have a severe phobia of needles. I faint whenever I get a shot or have my blood drawn."

"While I was arranging the fresh flowers, I accidentally pricked my finger on a thorn, fainted on the spot, and fell right on top of my dad."

Lv Xing said with a pained look, her tone full of self-reproach, "I can’t believe I ended up breaking one of his ribs."

"It’s all my fault for being so careless. I should have just fallen onto the floor."

Yu Beihua tried to console her. "Lv Xing, don’t blame yourself."

"It’s mainly because your father has some bone density loss. Otherwise, an impact of that intensity wouldn’t have caused a fracture."

"Besides, you should be happy."

Yu Beihua analyzed, "Lv Xing, it’s very possible that your fall, and the subsequent fracture, created the exact trigger needed. Your father had already recovered to a certain critical point, and this is what pushed him to wake up from his coma."

Seeing Lv Xing’s eyes light up, Yu Beihua turned to report to Yan Feifan. "Teacher, the examination confirmed that Mr. Lv only fractured one rib. There are no signs of internal bleeding or other complications."

"I’ve already set the broken rib."

"You know how to set bones by hand?" Yan Feifan asked, somewhat surprised.

Yu Beihua replied humbly, "I learned a bit about bone-setting from an elder in my family a while back."

"Besides, Mr. Lv’s fracture was a simple one, so it wasn’t too difficult."

Yan Feifan said, "Oh," and added with praise, "Nicely done."

He then turned to Lv Xing and said, "A severe needle phobia isn’t unheard of in a hospital, but this is the first time I’ve ever seen or heard of someone fainting from a simple thorn prick."

"It’s possible your fainting spell wasn’t caused by the needle phobia."

Yan Feifan then gave an order. "Yu Beihua, I want you and Lv Xing to find the flower that pricked her. Then, take her for an allergy test and a toxicology screening."

"Yes, Teacher!" Yu Beihua nodded.

About ten minutes later, Qiu Ge finally completed her series of examinations.

"Overall sensory perception and feedback are noticeably delayed. There are discrepancies in his visual and limb positioning."

"He lacks fine muscle control."

"Cognitive function is still quite good!"

"There’s no memory loss..."

Dr. Qiu Ge said, her voice filled with excitement, "Overall, Mr. Lv’s condition is excellent."

"With three to four months of rest and rehabilitation, it’s highly probable he can return to a normal life and even go back to work."

Qiu Ge looked at Yan Feifan, unable to contain her excitement. "Mr. Yan, our experimental therapy was a success."

"To have woken him up after only three treatments... I still find it a bit incredible."

Yan Feifan smiled and said cautiously, "Dr. Qiu, it’s still too early to declare it a success."

"We can’t rule out the possibility that Mr. Lv was simply jolted awake by the intense pain of his broken rib."

This comment earned him a sharp eye-roll from Qiu Ge.

"If it were that easy to wake patients from a deep coma, I’d just spend my days breaking their legs with a hammer."

After her little joke, Qiu Ge turned to instruct her two students. "Starting now, keep Mr. Lv under twenty-four-hour observation. Perform a routine checkup every four hours."

"Report any abnormalities to me at once."

The two students acknowledged the order seriously.

Qiu Ge and Yan Feifan exchanged a look and, with a silent understanding, walked out of the ward together.

Unexpectedly, the moment they stepped out of the ward, they were swarmed by a group of nearly ten people.

They were the family members of the other five patients in deep comas.

Qiu Ge said with a reassuring smile, "The news you heard about Patient Number One waking up is true."

"We’ve examined him, and he is in good condition."

"Patient Number One waking up is definitive proof that our experimental therapy is effective."

Qiu Ge continued, trying to manage their expectations, "However, each patient fell into a deep coma for different reasons, and the severity of their brain injuries varies. Consequently, there will inevitably be differences in the treatment outcomes."

"I ask you all to be patient and to keep your faith in our experimental treatment."

Just then, one of the family members called out, "Dr. Qiu, we are patient, and we are more than confident!"

"Mr. Yan’s name is synonymous with miracles, and Patient Number One waking up today is proof of that."

"Mr. Yan, Dr. Qiu, congratulations, and thank you. We’re counting on you."

"Mr. Yan, Dr. Qiu, we’re putting all our hopes in you!"

As he spoke, the family member bowed deeply to Yan Feifan and Qiu Ge, not straightening up.

The other family members followed suit, some bowing their heads, others bowing deeply from the waist.

Qiu Ge quickly helped one of them up, saying, "There’s no need for this, really. Everyone, please stand up. Please."

"You’ve put your trust in us by participating in this experimental therapy, and I assure you, Mr. Yan and I will do everything in our power."

"You can rest assured on that point!"

An elderly man, nearly seventy, approached Yan Feifan and pleaded, "Mr. Yan, the others still have a glimmer of hope."

"But my son... after his first treatment, there’s been no response at all."

"Have you given up on him?"

Yan Feifan quickly replied, "Sir, we haven’t given up. We’ve been actively trying to understand why your son didn’t respond to the initial stimulation."

"It just requires some time. No matter how difficult it gets, we will not give up on a single patient."

Qiu Ge took over, speaking loudly to the crowd. "Everyone, I’m sure you’ve all heard what happened on Tuesday, how Mr. Yan collapsed with a high fever."

"Well, I can tell you now that his condition at the time was extremely dangerous. His fever was stubbornly high at forty degrees and wouldn’t break."

"Thankfully, Mr. Yan pulled through."

"The hospital administration wanted him to take some time to rest and recover at home."

"But he couldn’t stop thinking about your loved ones, so he didn’t rest, and he didn’t delay a single one of their treatments."

She paused for a moment before saying with deep feeling, "Actions speak louder than words. I don’t think I need to say anything more, do I?"

"Now, please, go back to your family members..."

After persuading the families to return to their loved ones, Yan Feifan and Qiu Ge went to Yan Feifan’s medical research lab on the ninth floor.

After sitting down in the reception area, Qiu Ge said with a smile, "I really didn’t expect Patient Number One to wake up so quickly."

"His brain activity didn’t show any significant change after the three resonance stimulation sessions."

She added hopefully, "Now I’m just praying that there are no complications, like a regression in brain function or something."

Qiu Ge took the glass of water Duan Yu offered her, took a sip, and asked, "Mr. Yan, have you had any thoughts about Patients Number Two and Five, the ones who haven’t responded to the resonance stimulation at all?"

Yan Feifan said pensively, "Judging from the past few treatments, a patient’s optimal resonance frequency isn’t a fixed value."

"My theory is that each stimulation causes subtle changes in the patient’s brainstem, which in turn alters their optimal resonance frequency for the next session."

"As for Patients Number Two and Five..."

Suddenly, something clicked for Yan Feifan; he felt he was on the verge of a realization.

"It’s like shooting a basketball. You have to account for every single variable—stance, angle, power, even wind direction and speed. Only when you get everything right can you make the shot."

"Perhaps, with Patients Number Two and Five, there’s a factor we’re not aware of that’s affecting their resonance frequency."

Qiu Ge mused, "The problem is, all their test data shows that there’s nothing out of the ordinary."

After a moment of rapid thought, Yan Feifan said, "Perhaps there is something unique, but we just haven’t found it."

"Currently, the highest-precision MRI machine in the country is at Baining Hospital."

"Its precision is an order of magnitude higher than the one at our hospital. I suggest we send them to Baining Hospital for a scan..."
