Overpowered Resident Doctor

Chapter 755 - 754: Are You Really Okay?

At Yan Feifan’s insistence, he returned to work at the Affiliated Hospital on Friday.

However, he didn’t follow his previous arrangement to go study in the cardiac surgery department. Instead, he first completed a brain tumor puncture and injection surgery that should have been performed the day before.

After all, the brain tumor patient sent from the PLA General Hospital was not in good condition. It was best not to delay for too long, as performing the surgery a day earlier would reduce the associated risks.

After lunch, he and Dr. Qiu Ge performed the third infrasound resonance therapy session on four patients in deep comas.

This time, only one patient’s optimal infrasound resonance stimulation frequency required a slight adjustment.

At four in the afternoon, Yan Feifan brought Zhu Jian and Berry to the plastic surgery center to conduct a detailed examination of Tang Qing, who was due for her second targeted plastic surgery.

Due to the surgical contract both parties had signed before her first operation, Tang Qing was still technically a patient of the plastic surgery center.

Yan Feifan could use his own surgical team to operate on Tang Qing, but he had to use one of the plastic surgery center’s operating rooms.

The associated fees would be paid by Tang Qing to the plastic surgery center, which would then settle the accounts with Yan Feifan.

After finishing Tang Qing’s examination, Yan Feifan went to Dr. Wang Chuan’s office alone.

Pushing the door open, Yan Feifan saw Wang Chuan staring blankly at a rubber model of a human skull.

"Thinking about a surgical plan?"

Wang Chuan glanced at Yan Feifan and grunted. "A fifteen-year-old girl from an orphanage with a hemifacial deformity. It’s really not going to be easy to fix her face."

He explained briefly, then asked with concern, "You’ve been busy the entire day, right from the moment you came back to work."

"Can your body handle it?"

Yan Feifan struck a vigorous pose, flexing his biceps and puffing out his chest. "Why does everyone I see today keep asking me that?" he complained.

"It was just a fever. I’m not made of glass."

"Chuan, look. You can even see the definition in my biceps and pecs now."

Wang Chuan shook his head and chuckled. "But according to Mr. Yu’s diagnosis, your body was extremely weak."

Yan Feifan rolled his eyes at him. "That was my sister exaggerating. It was nowhere near as serious as she made it out to be."

After a brief pause, he changed the subject. "Chuan, could you help me train Zhu Jian and Berry on some of the fundamentals?"

"You’re already teaching five students anyway. What’s two more? It won’t be that much extra work."

Wang Chuan readily agreed.

He mentioned that Tuesdays were his regular teaching day, so the two of them could just join then.

"But, Feifan, let’s keep the finances clear. You’ll still have to cover their training fees."

"I’m not a department head anymore, so I can’t just use hospital resources like practice specimens and medical consumables for personal reasons."

"Besides, you’re a bona fide tycoon. You’ve got tens of millions in untouched research funds sitting in your account."

Yan Feifan magnanimously agreed. "No problem."

"Chuan, just keep good records and have those two settle up with Professor Shi Min every month."

After a two-second pause, Yan Feifan said slowly, "Chuan, please notify Dr. Tang Zheng to come to the hospital for a check-up next Wednesday."

Wang Chuan jolted slightly. "Feifan," he asked, seeking confirmation, "are you going to begin?"

Yan Feifan hummed in agreement. "The autumn air is crisp and clear. It’s the perfect season for plastic surgery."

"Dr. Tang should be mostly recovered by now, and it’s unlikely I’ll have any major breakthroughs in my surgical techniques in the immediate future."

"There’s no need to delay any longer."

"If Dr. Tang’s reconstructive surgery goes well, I’d like to move Yanyan’s surgery forward, too."

Wang Chuan studied Yan Feifan for a moment, a smile spreading across his face. "Yanyan will be thrilled to hear that."

"She’s being pushed to exercise every day, and I can tell she’s getting really sick of it, but she has no choice but to grin and bear it."

His expression suddenly turned serious. "Feifan, are you really okay?"

"Feifan, we’re good friends, aren’t we? If something is really going on, you can’t hide it from me."

Hearing his question and seeing the nervous way he was staring, Yan Feifan quickly understood.

"Chuan, you’re completely overthinking it. I’m young. What could possibly happen to me?"

"I just feel like I really do need a rest, so I want to get all my work organized and scheduled."

"That way, come the Spring Festival, I’ll just go for it and take a long vacation for a month or two."

"You really just want to take a long vacation?" Wang Chuan still looked worried and skeptical.

Yan Feifan rolled his eyes. "Chuan, believe it or not, that’s the truth."

"I believe you, I believe you, of course I believe you!"

Wang Chuan insisted, then added with a look of mock distress, "Then I guess I’d better start getting the money ready for that apartment in Zuimo Court."

"Here’s hoping that infusion controller becomes a real blockbuster on the medical supply market, so we get a huge year-end dividend."

Yan Feifan scoffed. "Even if the company turns a huge profit, the dividends will only be a token amount. The capital needs to be reinvested into R&D and new projects."

"The company’s goal is to go public, after all."

Yan Feifan added with a chuckle, "Chuan, we’re not unreasonable. We won’t force you to pay in a single lump sum. You can make monthly installments."

Wang Chuan copied Yan Feifan’s earlier gesture and rolled his eyes right back at him...

「It was nearly the end of the workday.」

Carrying several bouquets of still-vibrant flowers, Lv Xing excitedly returned to private room number two on the tenth floor of the Little Red House.

The evening sunlight streamed through the window, casting a slanted patch of light on the wall beside the bed.

The warm sunlight reflected onto the face of the bald, middle-aged man lying quietly in the bed, lending his complexion a soft, rosy hue.

"Dad, look, aren’t these flowers beautiful?"

Lv Xing pulled the most vibrant bouquet from the bunch, held it out for her father to see, and showed it off.

"After I finished eating in the cafeteria, I was heading back through the first-floor lobby and saw a patient being discharged with his family."

"They were carrying so many flowers."

"I know how much you love flowers, Dad, so I got brave and went up to ask if I could have a bouquet."

"They were so nice about it, they gave me this many all at once."

"Dad, look! One, two, three, four, five, six. They gave me six whole bouquets!"

"They’re all so, so pretty."

"In a minute, I’ll go ask a nurse for some plastic bottles. I can fill them with water, and the flowers should stay fresh for two or three days."

"Dad, don’t worry. Mom is taking good care of all the flowers you were growing at home."

"Mom said they’re all doing well. And your golden chrysanthemums have started to bud. In just a few more days..."

Suddenly, Lv Xing let out a cry.

She had been arranging the bouquets as she spoke, and the pad of her right index finger was pricked hard by a thorn that hadn’t been trimmed from a stem.

Lv Xing watched as the drop of blood welling up on her fingertip grew larger, becoming a bright red bead half the size of a pea.

Suddenly, the room started to spin, and a wave of nausea washed over her.

At the same time, the flowers dropped from her hands and scattered across the floor as her body began to sway.

’Holy shit, I’m fainting from this?’

This was Lv Xing’s last thought before she lost consciousness.

As she fell, her body instinctively moved toward the hospital bed, and she collapsed on top of her father.

The bed shook and let out a few creaks, then everything was still again.

But a moment later, a gaunt hand began to move, slowly, painstakingly, inching its way up the body...

Finally, the hand came to rest on the small head, half-hidden by black hair, that lay upon his chest...
