Chapter 264 - 206: Star Empire, Dragon Court Supreme
After the Black Dragon finished speaking, Amos fell completely silent.
Though the Black Dragon’s words stung, they were the plain truth.
Survival of the fittest was a timeless truth. Amos had seen it all too often during his time in the Demon Beast Mountain Range.
But as one who believed the Dragon Race to be noble, he was unwilling to see them fall into the same worldly cycle. That was why he was so vehemently opposed.
But the painful lesson from the previous generation of dragons was a stark reminder: a noble, transcendent Dragon Race was not invincible.
When faced with a true catastrophe, everything was meaningless without power.
"So, you’re saying we can’t stop our campaign of conquering other worlds for even a moment, just like that Giant Demon Tobien Empire?"
The Giant Dragon who had ascended from a Whale Dragon spoke then, his voice heavy.
"No need to put it so crudely. We of the Dragon Race are nothing like those Giant Demons. Everything we do is for the sake of bringing prosperity to more worlds. After all, whenever we arrive in a new world, its inhabitants get a chance to become dragons, don’t they?"
"It’s an immense blessing... Heh heh..."
Black Dragon Teo said with a strange laugh.
"Hah. I have to say, Teo, you really are detestable. With that hypocrisy of yours, you’re no different from the Human Race."
"That said, your suggestion this time isn’t half bad. At least on principle, it sounds decent enough."
"..."
The Giant Dragons went back and forth.
Finally, Silver Dragon Camilla interrupted them.
"Enough. Let’s not get sidetracked, everyone. You can all give His Majesty your suggestions about the future of the Dragon Race later."
"Right now, however, we are here to discuss the Dragon Child’s establishment of a nation."
"Dragon Child, why don’t you tell us what you think? Perhaps you could share your own views?"
As she spoke, the Silver Dragon turned her gaze to York, who had remained silent at the side.
Facing the gazes of fifteen Saint Tier Giant Dragons, York was not the least bit intimidated.
In fact, he seemed to have been waiting for this.
"It seems you have all finished your discussion. I’ve listened to everything, so allow me to share my own thoughts."
"The future of the Dragon Race is something I cannot foresee, nor do I have the right to interfere. Ultimately, that matter will be decided by His Majesty’s will."
"I can only speak on the matter at hand: establishing a nation on the Karte Continent."
"Regarding the establishment of this nation, I believe it would be best not to name it after the Dragon Race."
"After all, this nation will one day rule over the Human Race and perhaps even the myriad other races, not the Dragon Race."
"Therefore, its name should not be associated with the dragons."
"However, while the nation may not bear the dragon name, we can establish a ’faith’ centered on the Dragon Race as a totem. The benefit is that the Dragon Race can maintain a sense of detached sanctity, removed from the other races."
"This way, just as Crimson and Lord Teo suggested, if His Majesty truly intends to reward worthy beings with ascension into the Dragon Race, then the sanctity we maintain will only serve to further inspire the loyalty of all races to the Empire."
"It would even foster in them a yearning and a fervent desire to become one of the Dragon Race."
"That is my view. What do you all think?"
Of course, these were not York’s own words. They were what Lince had instructed him to say beforehand.
It was Lince’s way of conveying his own will through York’s mouth.
The more astute among the Giant Dragons present naturally understood this, and for those who didn’t, it didn’t really matter.
"Excellent!!!"
Amos was the first to voice his approval.
"This idea is indeed excellent. It was an oversight on our part. If we were to establish some ’Dragon Kingdom,’ then who but His Majesty could be the emperor?"
"The Dragon Child truly possesses great wisdom. It’s no wonder His Majesty holds him in such high regard. This is an excellent idea! I agree as well."
"..."
It had to be said, the idea was truly ingenious.
The Dragon Race would remain transcendent and aloof, while the people of the Empire would aspire to join their ranks.
This way, any mortal being who wished to become a dragon would first have to pass through a series of screenings and trials within the Empire. This would ensure that any new additions to the Dragon Race were of the highest quality, favoring substance over sheer numbers.
In this cycle, the Dragon Race was certain to flourish.
Thus, not a single Giant Dragon present raised an objection.
After that, the matter of establishing the nation became simple.
It was merely a matter of deciding on a name for the Empire.
In the end, a name for the Empire was decided upon.
It would be named for the stars, to symbolize the Empire’s grand ambitions.
Thus, it was named: the Star Empire.
Much like the Human Race’s Dawn Empire, the name was simple and clear.
Dragon Island, home of the Dragon Race, was also given a title: the Star Dragon Court.
The Dragon Court would be supreme, with the Empire in the middle, and the Religious Countries and Kingdoms at the bottom.
And so, the Karte Continent had smoothly established its own clear ruling structure.
All that remained was to let time test the stability of this new order.
