Chapter 485: Good Game?
Chapter 483
Bonny quickly took charge as she turned toward the handheld camera Johnny was holding, then grinned down at the lens.
"As you can see, Aspirant Dawson has been pardoned and recruited into the Vanguard Order. This is such a huge win for humanity.
"Even though we deem him dangerous, like Captain Raze said, he could prove to be invaluable to humanity.
"And the next step is to retake Wall Rose. Don’t worry, guys. We won’t be missing this action, because we will be accompanying the group for this."
Johnny peeked past the camera at Bonny.
"We?"
"Yes, Johnny. You and I."
Turning back toward the camera, the woman smiled and added:
"Tune in next time to watch the action live. Bye for now."
And right on cue, the livestream ended.
The comments, however, continued to pour in.
[Proud Hater: Fuck this man! This is bullshit! The whole trial is damned rigged. How can he be allowed to live?]
[Anime Weeb: I hear you, man. How can such a dangerous creature be left alive? And not only that, but he is allowed to roam one of the backbone military groups of humanity?]
[Unconcerned Viewer: This is bad, guys. This can’t be allowed to remain. For goodness’ sake.]
[Lovely Mum of Three: Yayyyyyyyy! My daughter’s saviour is saved. I’m thankful to the heavens.]
[Proud Dad: It’s great to see that he didn’t die after all. I would love to meet him one day.]
[Proud Hater: And I hope he rips your heads off, you fools!]
[Noctis2nm: Can’t you reply or comment without insulting people? You are just being an illiterate. You expressed your opinion, nobody attacked you, but they’re expressing theirs and you’re attacking them?]
[Proud Hater: Here’s another one. A werewolf cocksucker calling me an illiterate? Just don’t reply to me, because I have a lot of time on my hands to dismantle you here.]
[Noctis2nm: Exactly, jobless motherfucker. Unlike you, I have a lot to do, like gifting this livestream. So happy commenting.]
The comment section was on fire.
Thousands upon thousands of humans continued expressing their dissatisfaction with the decision that had just been made, while others celebrated the fact that Ray had survived.
Well, not that Ray cared.
At least, not about the comments.
Ella gestured for her men, and they immediately rushed forward to begin unlocking the Tribrid from the pole.
*Click.*
One chain came loose.
*Click.*
Then another.
The cohort turned toward him with anxious expressions.
With every click of the restraints, their impatience grew.
They had spent far too long watching Ray chained to that pole.
Finally—
The last restraint was unlocked.
Ray was free.
Before anybody could even think, Trisha was the first to move.
She lunged forward.
She was incredibly fast, aided by the ice that still coated the ground beneath her feet.
Then she jumped onto the Tribrid like a child throwing herself into the arms of an adult after being separated from them for far too long.
Her arms wrapped tightly around Ray’s neck.
For a moment, she said nothing.
Then drops of tears slipped from her eyes and landed on Ray’s back.
She quickly wiped them away, almost as though embarrassed that he had seen them.
"I’m glad you’re safe."
Ray’s lips curled into a small smile.
"Ohoy~! The Ice Queen can show emotion other than a stoic look?"
He lowered his voice and whispered into her ear.
"I must have done some good deed in my past life to deserve this."
Trisha’s expression immediately hardened.
"Don’t you dare tell the others what you felt just now. Otherwise, I’ll send ice spikes into your ass."
Ray gulped.
Then smiled.
"Yes, ma’am."
"Ray!"
The others finally reached him.
Trisha reluctantly disengaged from the hug and took a step back.
The next second, the others bolted forward and threw themselves onto the Tribrid.
With their combined weight crashing into him, the entire group tumbled to the ground.
Ray disappeared beneath his friends as they laughed and held onto him, the tension that had been weighing on them for so long finally breaking apart.
The sight was almost childish.
But after everything they had just endured, none of them cared.
"Muah! Muah! Muah! I missed you, bro!"
Van was heard planting kisses on Ray’s head and even his cheeks.
Ray’s eyes widened.
"Ewww! You didn’t tell me you were so horny, Van!"
PA—!
Van’s palm struck the boy’s cheek.
"Pervert."
"Hey, that’s my line to Felix," Chloe chimed in.
"But I’m not a pervert though," Felix frowned.
"Oh yes you are, dumbass."
Standing up from the boy’s body, Kai held out his hand toward him.
"I’m glad it all worked out, bro. You worried me so much."
Ray smiled sheepishly as he grabbed his friend’s hand and allowed himself to be pulled to his feet.
"You know, that was some stupidly brave shit you pulled off that day by transforming," Caster commented with a shake of his head.
"Well, I knew that after her rampage, we would be next if something wasn’t done, and I couldn’t stand by and watch her harm my friends," Ray replied while twisting his neck around, cracking it.
His expression remained relaxed.
Then, his gaze landed on two figures leaving the hall alongside the other spectators.
The jury members were already long gone through a separate door.
"A moment," Ray muttered.
He leaned his body forward.
Then—
WHOOSH!
He dashed forward with tremendous speed.
Within a flash, he stood before the two figures who were leaving.
They halted in shock, their eyes immediately falling on Ray.
The boy grinned down at them.
"Good game, Berg," Ray greeted, extending his hand for a handshake.
Berg scoffed and attempted to walk away.
But Ray grabbed both his arm and Bryce’s, stopping the two men in their tracks.
Turning his head toward Berg, Ray leaned closer and whispered:
"Your saving grace right now is the fact that your father is a Big Four Legacy, and I won’t be able to infiltrate your estate to take you out for good."
His grip remained firm.
"But the next time I lay eyes on you, it’s going to be all hands."
Ray’s grin remained unsettling.
Berg’s expression darkened as he yanked his arm away from Ray before walking out of the hall.
Ray watched him leave for a moment.
Then he turned toward Bryce.
The man’s throat bobbed as he gulped loudly.
Ray released his arm and stepped closer.
A smirk appeared on the boy’s face as he began straightening Bryce’s blazer.
"...I will give you a head start."
He adjusted the man’s blazer before continuing.
"Run back to your estate and hire thousands of guards in wait. Because as soon as I’m done with my mission, I will come for your head."
Ray’s smirk widened.
"Good luck."
He patted the man on the shoulder, then turned around and walked away.
He hadn’t taken more than ten steps when Captain Ella and her squad stood before him, with his friends standing alongside them.
"Come on. Let’s take you to your Captain for finalization."
