Chapter 1027: Professional Negotiator
Chapter 1027: Professional Negotiator
After what felt like a few hours, she finally woke up. Granted, she did seem a little pissy now that she recalled that a certain someone had knocked her out.
Despite that, she went ahead and rose to her feet, dusted herself off, then narrowed her eyes at William, who exhaled in relief.
"Here I thought I had accidentally killed you. You dumbass... Don’t ever attack me like that again," he said.
And yet, Eve just pouted, her cheeks puffing up like a chipmunk’s.
"You knocked me out."
Pausing, she glared even more fiercely.
"How dare you knock your wife out?"
Instead of replying, William turned to Rael.
"Help me out here. Didn’t you knock Lilith out once as well?"
Rael recalled, then shook his head. The two had fought a few times, but not to the extent of knocking each other out. They were gentle fighters.
"Sorry, but I can’t help on that one. You’re on your own, bud."
With that, Rael patted Lilith’s shoulder, and she gave her father a thumbs up, clearly in favor of him suffering. With that, it was clear that he was done for, and of course, it played out as one would expect.
She went ahead and ruffled him up; this time, he didn’t resist. Before long, William was reduced to an obedient husband whose sole purpose in life was to simply behave. It was odd to see him like this, since Rael was sure he would’ve lashed out like a child countless times by now.
But alas, some things, especially those related to love, were very unpredictable.
"Hmph. Good. You look in far better shape now," Eve said, dusting herself off. "But hey, did I, or did I not say I would be back, eh?"
William lowered his head. "I thought you said that because you wanted to haunt me."
"Haunt you? Why would I ever do that?" Eve sighed. "I was thinking of reincarnating as a coffee cup or something. But life after death seemed to be a bit different, so I went to hell, relaxed for a couple of years, then went to the Underworld."
She pointed at Rael.
"He came around with my daughter and revived me. It’s really confusing stuff, but I wouldn’t be here without him, so all props to him."
Finally, she stopped pouting.
"Now, William. Can I ask why you forced such a heavy workload on our daughter? I know you’re lazy at times, but come on... She has her own life to deal with, and her own marriage to hold together."
Obviously, she knew just how much of a boring job being a Demon King really was. She just wanted William to do something better with his life rather than sulking around the humans and chopping their trees like some buffoon.
But he clearly didn’t see it that way.
"I feel like you would like this kind of life too, you know." He glanced at the humans off to the side. "It’s strangely calming, and if I know my daughter well enough, then I’m sure she has already figured out a way to automate the entire process of being a Demon King. Isn’t that right, Lilith?"
Lilith flinched, knowing full well that was exactly what she had done. Still, she didn’t let her pride get torn to shreds as she simply puffed out her cheeks and avoided his gaze.
William took that as approval.
"See? Try living with me here for a bit. I haven’t lived here long, but I feel far more fulfilled than I ever did as a Demon King. The small things matter here, and not to mention, the food here is excellent."
Eve couldn’t tell if he was being serious, but after a few moments of silence, she understood that he was.
"Sigh... You’ve really changed, you know that? When I first met you, you were some kind of tyrant who had nothing on his mind but blood and gore and whatever. Now, you’re talking about your hobbies and how you like chopping trees. It’s a bit odd, you know?"
He shrugged. "It’s not my fault life as a mundane human is somewhat interesting."
While the two of them talked it out, Rael fell into his own train of thought.
Why was everyone enjoying it so much?
He remembered being a human. It sucked ass.
Sure, there were good times, but the whole cycle of life was just: be born, age, get money, die. At least to him, that was how it went.
There were people who had more purpose in life, but he was sure that the majority saw life that way too. Despite that, Rael didn’t voice his opinions, since he was sure that with Uriel and Solenne doing this on the side, there definitely was some considerable charm to it.
And so, after just a few minutes of talking, Eve was convinced.
"Hmm. Fine. I’ll give it a week. If I’m not convinced in a week, then you’re coming back with me to the Demon Realm. Deal?"
William nodded. "It’s a deal. Though, you should change your clothes. You look like some kind of saint from the Demon Realm. Wear something similar to what I am wearing. It’s neat, compact, and comfortable."
For someone who was wearing baggy clothes to work, he sure had a lot to say. Not that Rael hated baggy clothes. They were his favorite from his time as a human.
Nowadays, he wore whatever was comfortable, and since his body made everything look good and comfortable, he wasn’t a picky dresser.
"Well, in that case, I’ll be in your care. But remember, if I don’t like it, we’re going to be leaving. Understood?" Eve said one last time for reassurance.
And William once again nodded, giving her a thumbs up.
With that, the two of them vanished. Rael could sense that they were now near a clothing store. In short, while their meeting was brief, they didn’t jump around in each other’s embrace and act all lovey-dovey.
Still...
"We should probably leave them alone. What do you think?"
