Chapter 413: Forgotten History.
Since things had reached this point, he absolutely had to cross the world barrier. So he stepped forward to enter the world barrier.
The world barrier isn’t actually a solid object. It is just a great wall of grey mist. So it looks like it is made of smoke.
With this kind of structure, anyone can enter the world barrier. However, anyone who so much as comes close to the world barrier will be forced to become a part of the world barrier.
So, just as he reached within 1 meter of the world barrier, he felt a strange force descend on him. The force made him feel weak immediately because it was draining all of his energy, including his stamina.
But this weakness only lasted a bit before it disappeared. This was because he possessed infinite energy.
To be exact, it is his Mental World that possesses infinite energy. But with this on his side, the energy-draining effect of the world barrier won’t be able to delibitate him.
Because of his plentiful energy, he was able to move closer to the world barrier instead of stepping back in fear or becoming too weak to move. However, before taking another step forward and formally entering the world barrier, he summoned his Mental World and smashed it against the mist wall.
Smashing is actually an exaggeration. He intended to smash his Mental World against the obstacle in his way, but there was no smashing because the mist wall gave way for him without resistance.
With the Mental World ahead, a path had opened for him in the world barrier. This way, he won’t have to use his body to push his way through the world barrier. But even with this advantage, the moment he stepped into the barrier, a stronger and more insidious force landed on him.
This stronger and more insidious force didn’t drain his stamina and internal energy like before. Instead, it began to drain his lifespan. In just a second, he had lost one year of his life.
As bad as this was, he knew that it could be worse. He knew that if he hadn’t used his Mental World to suppress the world barrier, he would have lost ten times as much lifespan per second.
He doesn’t have an infinite lifespan, so if this force is allowed to continue draining him for 100 seconds more, he would surely die. He didn’t want to die, so he quickly began using divine energy, the energy of divine beings, to negate this force.
He is not a divine being, but he has a stockpile of divine energy from his glory days that he can use to save his life now. This divine energy is also of incredible quality, so a little of it can go a long way.
With the divine energy to help him, he was able to suppress the loss to his lifespan. But he still flew forward through the world barrier as fast as he could.
On his way through, he said to himself, ’And this is just the cost of moving between domains of a single world. How expensive would it be to move through worlds? I am sure that no mortal can afford the price.`
As he said this, he remembered something which made him say to himself, ’Didn’t the Human Emperor create a spatial channel for traveling between worlds that time? I remember that my brother helped him to create the spatial channel so that he could easily move his armies through the universe to conquer worlds.’
Then he sighed and said, ’That was a long time ago, though. Since then, the Human Emperor has been killed. Even my three brothers and I didn’t fare better.’
When he thought of how he had died, he shook his head and said, ’I lost that gamble. We lost terribly. I knew that it was possible to lose, but I didn’t expect the outcome to be so bad.’
’Then again, the Human Emperor also died. He died, and his Human Pathway disappeared forever. If such a thing could happen to such a talented person, what more about me?’
This thought made him chuckle deprecatingly and say, ’At least, I am still alive and haven’t fallen. What more can I ask for when the fate of the Human Emperor is worse?’
’There isn’t even any trace of the Human Emperor still left. No one remembers him or knows that he is the reason humans have prospered throughout the sea of worlds.’
’If not for the Human Emperor, the dragons would still be the lords of this world and the myriad worlds in the universe. Yet, such a person has fallen so low. That war was truly tragic.’
When he thought back to his glory days, when there used to be a lot of pathways and Dao lords roaming the universe, he felt a sense of disbelief and loss.
But after feeling some grief, he has to think about why he had and who had orchestrated his demise. However, this time, he doesn’t know what to feel because, if he is being honest, his loss was well deserved.
As he thought of this, he said, ’No matter what I think, it is clear that the winners have done well with themselves since I was gone. Not only did they win, but they also became stronger.’
’So many people died, and so many pathways disappeared, but they survived and thrived. Then they carved up this world and the many other worlds in the sea of worlds for themselves. They are truly impressive.’
’But the person I am most impressed with is that Sword God. How did a junior like him survive between their teeth and thrive?’
He shook his head in wonder and said in admiration, ’And he came out of that monster’s sect, too. I didn’t think that monster could ever lose something. That’s just unbelievable.’
’I want to see that Sword God for myself. I want to see what makes him so special. I want to see how he could ascend right under the noses of all of them.’
