Freya and Her Beast Husbands

Chapter 32: Taking A Break

Freya switched her phone device off, mind spinning from everything she had read. She had used the notes General Markson had given her as a reference point, looking up things she didn’t quite understand.

Which was a lot.

But at least she got the basics of this world down now. From what she read it seemed that hunter and guide type abilities had only existed over the last two hundred years. Abilities were based on your bloodline too.

Meaning that one could only gain an ability if it existed somewhere in one’s bloodline. And the ability one gained also had to be related to one’s bloodline as she figured. It wasn’t randomized.

The interesting thing was that no one was sure how the abilities came to be. Some theories suggested it was because of the heavy amounts of tainted mana which apparently altered this world.

Because before the whole dangerous outside and safe city thing, beastmen lived anywhere and everywhere. And it seemed they were thriving until something happened.

Then things went south and beastmen society had been rebuilding when all the abilities appeared helping them. Which kind of explained why certain things were quite advanced while other things were more behind.

Rubbing her forehead, Freya sat up and placed her phone on the nightstand. She then got up and decided to go look for Xavier. She needed some time to clear her head and wanted to use this chance to check her new room and maybe go for a walk.

She could certainly use some fresh air.

Once Freya stepped outside Xavier’s bedroom, she headed downstairs to see if he was anywhere. She headed to the kitchen first, but didn’t find him there. Instead, she found herself staring at an android cooking.

The android sensed her, turning around before it said in a robotic voice, "Do you require something Madam?"

Silence filled the air as Freya took a moment to process what she was looking at. After her brain registered what the android had just said, she answered, "Not really! Just looking for Xavier..."

"Master Xavier is currently in the gym." The android stated. "Would you like me to send him a message? Or perhaps take you to the gym?"

"No, that’s fine... He’s probably busy right now. I don’t want to interrupt Xavier." Freya replied.

"What do you need?" A voice from behind her asked, making Freya jump.

"Master Xavier." The android called out in greeting. "Dinner will be ready in an hour’s time."

As it spoke, Freya turned her head to find Xavier standing a few meters behind her. He had changed out of his usual suit and was only wearing a pair of black sweatpants and had a small white towel around his neck.

It seems the only color this man owns is black... Freya mused to herself, trying to ignore how good he looked right now. She had a great view of his toned body which had her mouth going dry all of a sudden.

It didn’t help that his sweatpants hung low on his lips and made her feel a little guilty for the thoughts they were giving her. His hair was messy again and tempted Freya to run her hands through his hair.

"Freya?" Xavier called out, drawing her out of her mini daze. "What did you want?"

"Oh... I was just wondering if you could show me the room I’ll be using." Freya blushed. "Of course if you’re busy that’s fine too. I’ll probably just take a little walk outside."

"I’m not busy." Xavier stated. "Also you should be careful if you go wandering around the gardens. There are still a few reporters lingering out front. They may hound you if you go near there."

"I see..." Freya pursed her lips. "Are they always like that?"

"Only for a few days... Then they’ll jump onto the next big thing." Xavier said as he headed over to the fridge. He grabbed a bottle of water before he asked, "Want one?"

"No thanks." Freya shook her head.

Xavier closed the fridge with that before he twisted the bottle cap off. He then took a swing of water and Freya watched, noticing a bead of water trailing down his chin.

Urgh... What is wrong with me? Freya grumbled to herself. I’m normally not this bad... Is this guide ability affecting me in some way?

She did read somewhere that those with guide abilities would feel a heightened sense of attraction to hunters they were more compatible with and could easily use their power on.

And she was beginning to wonder if that was the reason for this or if she was just plain horny.

Not that either one was good. This was meant to be a respectful relationship where Xavier and her helped each other out. There were clear lines in their deal.

"Let’s head upstairs." Xavier said suddenly. "I’ll show you the room and if you have any issues let Gary know."

"Gary?" Freya asked, wondering who that was.

"That’s the android’s name." Xavier pointed at the android standing a few meters away from them cooking. "He’s in charge of the household."

"So let me know if you have any issues Madam." The android suddenly added, turning to them.

"Ah..." Freya nodded her head in understanding. "Will do."

With that, Xavier and Freya headed back upstairs so Xavier could show Freya the room that she’d be using. As they were walking up the stairs, Freya asked, "So... um why do you have an android?"

"What do you mean?" Xavier asked, a little confused by the question.

"Well, I mean why do you have an android doing housework?" Freya clarified. "Is it a prototype or something? Because there weren’t many around when we were out."

Maybe it was her being prejudiced, but she expected there to perhaps be more androids working around the mall and stuff. Especially when she saw Gary cooking dinner and making it clear it could do household work.

Meaning it was capable of doing other types of work.

"Oh... It’s not a prototype. Androids are just not commonly used for anything except household work." Xavier explained. "The FPA was against them working outside that area mostly because they want to allow for beastwomen to meet beastmen outside their blind dates’ system. Create organic encounters I suppose you could call it."

"Oh..." Freya pressed her lips together as they walked through the hallway.

She supposed that made sense in a way. Interactions and chance encounters were probably better than going to lots of blind dates to find a few that you matched with.

They passed Xavier’s room before they came to a stop in front of the door a few meters away. Xavier placed his hand on the brass doorknob and said, "This is your room. I’ve put it next door to mine, but you can change to the other rooms if you want."

"It’s fine." Freya said.

It would be better if she was close to his room. This mansion was big and she had barely gotten herself familiar with the whole layout. Which would take some time.

Xavier held the door open for her and Freya stepped inside to take a look at it. The room was a little smaller than Xavier’s, but not by much. The walls were painted in neutral colors and there was a door to the left, leading to what she guessed was the bathroom.

It was still being set up with some furniture still needing to be set up. Additionally, there was a plastic sheet covering the right side and once covering the large window at the back of the room.

Which showcased a massive garden at the back of the mansion. Freya hadn’t really seen it before and wanted to go exploring and see all it had to offer because it looked great from where she was standing.

"They’re finishing a closet there." Xavier pointed out at the right side. "If you want to add anything, best to do it now. You can also change the wall color if you want. And the floors if you don’t like hardwood."

"No, this is perfect." Freya exclaimed.

She thought Xavier was just doing a few touch ups in the room, not redoing the entire thing. Still, she had to say it looked quite good even if it wasn’t quite finished yet. She was a little excited to move into this room.

There was not really any need to change the room. She could just add a personal touch to the room with some of her own things that she had bought earlier today.

"That’s good to hear." Xavier mused. "If you’re happy with it, we can go for a walk now. Let me just grab a shirt and some shoes."

Freya turned back to him. "You don’t have to do that! Besides, don’t you want to shower?"

"I already did." Xavier said. "It’s no trouble. I want to show you the gardens. Plus you never know if someone is lurking out back. Sometimes there are beastmen who try their luck..."

Freya sighed, knowing she couldn’t argue with that, "Alright."
