Chapter 31: Star Network
After the two chatted for a bit more, Xavier left the bedroom, giving Freya a chance to freshen up while he checked on something. He didn’t say what it was, but Freya guessed it was perhaps work related.
Once he was gone, she grabbed some items from the shopping bags before putting the rest to the side. She didn’t want to unpack until she had moved into her new room.
When Freya entered the shower, she couldn’t help but let out a sigh of relief, enjoying the hot water hitting her sore body. Today had been eventful to say the least.
But at least now she had a chance to learn more about this world.
After she was done showering and getting dressed into some shorts and a t-shirt, Freya grabbed her phone device. It had already been set up since she needed it for payments, so she could easily access the internet now.
Of course, it took her a bit of searching before she found a browser. And the first thing she did was look into Star Network. Because it would be a lie to say that she wasn’t interested in what was being said there.
After finding the platform and going onto it, Freya did a bit of scrolling to get an idea of the platform. It seemed like a Twitter clone to her, but with more features on it.
Most beastmen seemed to use it the same way humans did back on Earth which made things easier for her. She could get a better understanding of this city’s culture from things that were trending.
Which was the next thing she looked into.
Most was entertainment and gossip news that was trending. However, she didn’t find anything about Xavier and her. Guess that was the damage control Wilson did.
Still, she did find something else interesting.
It seemed those with abilities, which she also learnt were called hunters, were treated like some kind of celebrity. There was even a ranking system and an entire side of the platform with dedicated fans rating and commenting about hunters.
Out of curiosity, Freya decided to see where Xavier ranked, however, didn’t find him in any of the rankings. Nor did he seem to have any fans. In fact, it was the opposite.
Guess he wasn’t kidding about the Snake Clan having a bad rep. Freya mused to herself as she read some of the posts.
There was also a ranking system and fans for guides too. And boy did that make the hunters seem like some niche topic. She’d never seen so many hardcore fans in her life.
Which said a lot considering how big internet culture and some fandoms were in her world.
After scrolling through it for a bit, Freya eventually decided to leave that side of Star Network to search for the marriage thing using the explore feature. And when she hit enter, she was shocked by what she read.
[Breaking News: Unranked Hunter General Xavier Has Married.
It’s been confirmed that General Xavier has registered for marriage at the FPA. Details about his partner have not been disclosed, but the FPA has confirmed the marriage and asks members to respect the privacy of his partner after images were leaked....]
The news post went on for a bit about the whole trending topic and some female privacy act that seemed to give her some kind of protection on the internet. Which she was glad for.
She wasn’t exactly keen on being doxxed a few days after arriving in this world. Granted, the same protection couldn’t be said for Xavier. They could dox him, if those reporters hadn’t already spread those details.
The only thing was nothing personal could be posted about her without her permission. Not without getting the FPA involved which was what happened.
Honestly, she still couldn’t quite understand it all and just decided to scroll on to the comments.
[User3456 commented: Bet the Snake Clan paid a lot for that beastwoman and the FPA to cover up their nonsense again. The royal family should kick them out! They’re ruining our city.]
[CatnipIsMyFavorite commented: A sad day for single beastmen. Even a snake can find a wife...]
[Comment Has Been Removed]
[EatingWatermelon commented: The Snake Clan is so vile. They must’ve threatened this beastwoman. No one wants to be around them.]
[User3203w4 commented: Anyone want to bet how long this one will last? Wonder if it’ll end like last time.]
[User1353-56 commented: Hope they get divorced so he can be exiled.]
[Potatoes245 commented: Must be some ugly beastwoman desperate for money]
The comments just kept going, getting worse as she kept reading. Freya eventually left the post, only to find other posts mostly commenting the same things. To many this was a great tragedy.
One thing she was thankful though was that they didn’t know who she was. Photos had been leaked, but they hadn’t been up for long before they were taken down.
Otherwise, who knows how they would bash her.
She ended up leaving Star Network, deciding that was enough drama for one day. She wanted to focus on some proper research so she could get a better understanding of how things worked here.
And perhaps find a way to make money that didn’t involve the Guide Center. Because that place still seemed quite sketchy to her.

Wilson gazed at his monitor screen, reading the words others had written. He originally was doing this for his brother because he hated how much others dragged Xavier through the mud.
His older brother wasn’t like their fathers. He was a good person that protected this city. He went on countless missions killing monsters to keep them from destroying the city barrier.
And yet, everyone ignored that all because he was a snake.
However, after meeting Freya briefly too, he was now upset about the words others were writing about her. His sister-in-law was nicer than many of these righteous beastmen.
And prettier too.
The thought made his face go red. He couldn’t be thinking like that. That was his sister-in-law. Although some brothers did share wives to not cause trouble within the family and have a higher chance of continuing their clan.
Not that Wilson or his brothers were practically keen on continuing their clan. At least not in a city like this. Any cubs they had would have a difficult life all because they were from the Snake Clan.
Honestly, Xavier was lucky to have found someone to love him as he was. Wilson knew his brother definitely needed that. Xavier was becoming too cold-hearted as the years went by.
And Wilson hated watching his brother’s warmth slowly disappear.
"Wilson..." A voice suddenly called out through a speaker, breaking his train of thought.
Wilson snapped his gaze over to another monitor, finding himself looking at Xavier. He was standing in front of Wilson’s bolted door, waiting for him to let him enter.
With a sigh, Wilson got up and headed over to the door, wondering what his brother wanted. Xavier rarely came over to this side of the house. When he got to the door, he placed his left hand on the scanner next to it.
"Access Granted." An A.I. voice spoke before the thick metal door hissed opened.
Wilson pulled it further open and poked his head out. "Do you need something?"
"I want to ask how things are going." Xavier asked, staying right where he was.
Because he knew better than to enter Wilson’s room. His younger brother guarded the place like some kind of dragon, not allowing anyone near it. And when Ethan tried, it always ended up with him getting injured.
So Xavier didn’t waste his time.
"I’ve completed most of the damage control and got the FPA involved to give out a statement." Wilson stated, stepping outside and closing the door behind him. "But you know how slow they’ll be...."
"Yeah... You can put one out if you want." Xavier said. He was quiet for a moment, gazing at Wilson’s right side. "See you’re not wearing your arm... It isn’t hurting you again is it?"
Wilson instinctively grabbed his right shoulder and shook his head. "No, this one’s better than the last one. But I need some time adjusting to it, so am only wearing it a few hours a day."
"Well as long as it’s not hurting you that’s good." Xavier mused.
The air turned awkward between them, neither one not knowing what to say to the other. They rarely spoke outside of important matters they needed to discuss with the other.
It had been a long time since they discussed casual things.
Eventually Wilson decided to break the silence and asked, "Are you planning on doing a honeymoon? You did rush the wedding, not even doing a proper ceremony.... Plus you have all that time off now. You should do some traveling."
"I don’t know..." Xavier murmured. "Freya’s getting used to the city..."
"Which is a perfect chance for you to explore the city. Show her everything." Wilson retorted. "If you want I can help you."
Xavier pursed his lips. "Let me think about it... I need to get going Wilson."
And with that, Xavier disappeared, not wanting to give Wilson a chance to talk him into it.
