Chapter 38 - We all know who she is!
Two days went by in an endless cycle of cultivation and practice.
Cale was starting to get used to his new technique, the Supreme Nihility Chaos Genesis Scripture settling into his meridians, such a grand name must be somewhat better than others, right.
He could even produce some amount of black flame himself now—violet-tinged wisps that danced across his palms with almost hypnotic beauty.
Of course, the effect it had was way too negligible compared to what the system promised.
The flames barely singed a wooden post when he directed them full force, nothing like the "instant atomic decomposition" the description boasted about. But then again, considering the technique was supposedly created by literal god-level entities before the universe even had proper structure, he’d need to reach the Celestial realm to tap into even a fraction of its true power.
And that...would take around three to four centuries. Even for a genius.
If one’s talent was average? Well, either a thousand years or maybe your lifespan would end while cultivating, whichever came first.
Cale sighed heavily, shaking his head.
’Such is the fantasy cultivation world, heh. My own average twenty-year lifespan wasn’t even lived to the natural end in my past life, and now here I am dreaming of thousands of years of cultivation ahead. What kind of joke is this?’
He dismissed the thought and settled deeper into his meditation, sitting in the secluded backyard of the training grounds where few students ventured. The violet flames danced across his skin—harmless now, almost playful—as his consciousness sank deeper.
Then, while Cale was cultivating in the backyard of the training grounds—
A presence interrupted his focus.
He knew someone was watching him. But oh well, since they weren’t attacking, Cale remained still, eyes closed, violet flames dancing lazily across his skin as he sank deeper into meditation.
And indeed, it was Scythe. He’d recognized her aura weeks ago.
In the cultivation grounds, frustration gnawed at the edges of his focus.
His progression had been flawless until now, but something was blocking him, some unseen barrier preventing the next advancement. His eyes snapped open, jaw clenching.
’Why am I not able to break through? Is this technique that hard? Or should I switch back to the previous basic one again.’
The question echoed through his mind like a curse, his eyes twitched. His qi reserves were more than sufficient, his foundation solid, he even had got a good grasp on this new technique, complex as it though may be. By all accounts, the next stage should have been inevitable.
Although it is wishful thinking to be able to reach next level this quick, but given his speed it should be possible. And its just the Advance Stage, one of the most basic ones!
Or maybe godly techniques have their own toll on users? He can’t keep on switching techniques or his foundation itself might ruin.
Scythe watched from the shadows above, her masked face tilted in amusement. Her deep dark eyes—trained to perceive what ordinary cultivators couldn’t—tracked the flow of energy through his meridians even the bits of violet flames which normally people couldn’t see.
’He...what is he even..." Her fingers curled slightly. "He’s practicing a different technique? They’re not yet allowed to visit outside without permission, let alone get away with such... ominous technique. But well, he is Cale...oh, how handsome he looks even when annoyed."
Not letting her mind drift more, she shook her head and focused more on the new energy. She made a silent note, her gaze never wavering from his meditative form below.
A sudden burst of pure, concentrated heat erupted from Cale’s core.
The flames blazed outward with violent intensity, scorching the ground beneath him in expanding rings. Scythe’s eyes widened behind her mask—this wasn’t anything like gradual progression.
The moment the burst appeared, all the signs of derailment vanished. His qi stabilized instantly, the chaotic turbulence smoothing into a refined current.
Cale’s breathing remained steady as he opened his eyes, feeling the essence drops dissolve into his system. Yes, this was the result of using just a few of those Natural essence drops.
The concentrated energy he’d been condensing over days flowed through his meridians like liquid gold, not forcing a breakthrough but providing the power needed to stabilize his new cultivation base.
His foundation of the new technique had solidified further, stronger despite not advancing.
Hidden in the vast forest, Scythe’s body went rigid. Her masked face tilted downward, processing what she’d just witnessed.
No academy student possessed techniques like that. No normal cultivator could just randomly burst out energy like that!
But then she smiled, tilting her head.
’He keeps surprising me again and again, hehe. As expected of him! D-Did his eye color change!? How did I not know? I-I need to ask the one in-charge past few days. Those neglectful bastards! How dare they not notice it. When did it change to deep blue?’
She made another note—this one far more urgent than the last.
Cale’s body went rigid.
His eyes snapped open, instantly scanning the training grounds.
He knew that woman was watching him, but with such strong gaze...maybe she left and now someone else is here. Why would she look at him as if raring to go at him?
But he could feel it, unmistakably: someone was watching him from above, their gaze boring into his back with an intensity that made his skin crawl.
’I need to check!’
He didn’t wait for an answer. His instincts screamed danger, but something else screamed louder—the hunger for a proper fight that had been gnawing at him since his last duel.
Was it because of his constant wins or maybe because he wanted to check out his new powers. Even the cultivation he did right now was partly responsible.
Cale pushed off the ground with explosive force, he accelerated upward, his eyes tracking the canopy as he moved.
’Who cares, even if its her. Lets just check out her power level then, heh.’
Using Dash, his body became a blur of motion, combat intention radiated from him like heat.
Above, Scythe barely had time to react before he was upon her.
