Chapter 200: The Elimination Rewards
Kai could only release the Spirit Pulse to the ground as the mechanical tentacle was already close to his face!
Boom!
The impact created a shockwave that forced him back. Kai avoided the attack, but the tentacle of the Hunter Unit could lengthen itself!
This time, Kai turned his body, barely dodging the move...
Thud!
The tentacle only smashed into the ground, leaving a deep crack.
"Boss!" Amer shouted. "Are you okay?"
He was really worried just now. To be exact, the others were also afraid that their leader was caught in that attack! It was just too close!
Thankfully, they didn’t see any blood splatter.
Kai gritted his teeth and nodded. "I’m fine! Keep firing!"
The survivors obeyed. They had no time for a break! Their rifles were triggered as they poured bullets into the Hunter.
Clank... Clank... Clank...
Sparks flew, but the monster kept advancing. Its armor wasn’t being penetrated or damaged by their normal bullets at all.
Atom stepped forward and used its plasma rifle again...
Fwoosh!
A burst of plasma slammed into the Hunter’s chest, burning through its cloak.
The machine stepped back, and now, it seemed as if the light in its visor grew brighter!
Mei’s eyes widened. "It’s angry now!"
"Hey! That’s a machine... Why would it get angry?" Aurora reminded Mei before she reloaded her gun.
"I’m sure it will have a similar reaction..." Mei replied.
At this time, the Hunter spun with its blade arms, slicing through the air!
The tentacles lashed out, sweeping across the courtyard.
Survivors ducked and rolled, barely avoiding the deadly strikes.
Aurora shouted, "Stay spread out! Don’t let it hit us all at once!"
Then, the cooldown on Kai’s skill finally dropped, so he used Specter Step to get closer!
He reappeared at the Hunter’s side, his afterimage confusing the machine for a moment.
"Atom, cover me!" Kai yelled.
Atom fired another volley, plasma bolts struck into the Hunter’s armor! The survivors added their shots, forcing the monster to focus forward.
Kai took the chance. He raised his hand and released another spell that cost 70 Spirit Points!
Spirit Pulse!
Boom!
A wave of Spirit energy burst from his palm, slamming into the Hunter’s side. The cloak ripped apart, and one tentacle was blown back, sparking violently.
Thankfully, all their attacks from the very start had already dropped the Hunter’s durability!
"Yes!" Amer cheered.
"You hit it!"
But the Hunter didn’t fall yet. It steadied itself with the remaining mechanical tentacle and charged at Kai with both blade arms.
Since the Specter Step was still on cooldown, Kai used his leg strength to back away!
He didn’t have the confidence to block its attack with his axe after all.
He might be able to endure the attack, but his axe might get cut in half!
"Too close..." Kai muttered.
The Hunter then made a grinding noise like its mechanical gears were overheating...
But then, it started attacking any Survivor that was caught in its line of sight!
The Hunter dashed and slammed into a wall, smashing it apart!
The Survivors were able to dodge in time but the Hunter was quick to recover. It tentacle moved and swept across the ground, knocking two survivors off their feet.
"Help them!" Aurora shouted, rushing to pull the fallen men back.
Mei darted forward, with her Silent Veins skill, making her concealment better...
After seeing an opportunity, she struck at the Hunter’s leg with her blade!
Clank!
The blade hit its target, but the armor was too thick. Sparks were there, but no damage was caused.
"It’s too strong!" she cried.
Kai clenched his fists. "Then we work together. Atom, keep burning it! Everyone, aim for the tentacles! Mei, distract it!"
Everyone moved at once.
Atom unleashed another plasma volley, forcing the Hunter to step back...
The survivors aimed carefully, firing at the writhing tentacle...
Bullets were finally chipping at the joints, slowing its movements.
Mei also kept her presence close to the Hunter to ensure that she was being targeted by the enemy.. After all, she was probably the fastest among the group, and being able to take the aggro would be the best for everyone.
Soon, Kai charged again with Spirit energy gathering in his palm. "One more time!"
Boom!
The Spirit Pulse slammed into the Hunter’s back, tearing off part of its cloak and removing its last tentacle!
The machine stumbled, and its movements were now slower!
Aurora shouted, "It’s working! Keep pushing!"
The survivors cheered as they could finally see hope!
But the Hunter wasn’t finished. Its visor glowed red, and suddenly its cloak changed!
In an instant, it vanished.
"What?!" Amer gasped. "Where did it go?"
The survivors looked around and started panicking....
Kai frowned as he relied on his Keen Sense...
"It’s not gone..."
The courtyard fell silent, only the faint hum of Atom’s plasma rifle filling the air...
Then—
Clank!
The Hunter reappeared behind two survivors, its blade arms slashing down.
"Look out!" Aurora screamed.
The men dove aside, one barely escaping as the blades cut into the ground... Unfortunately, the other survivor was not lucky enough to dodge it!
Kai used his Specter Step again after its cooldown was dropped and appeared at the Hunter’s side. He swung his glowing hand, releasing another Spirit Pulse.
This was the last Spirit Pulse he could use!
Boom!
The blast struck the Hunter’s helmet, cracking the visor. The machine stepped back with its cloak malfunctioning...
Finally, Atom seized the chance.
Fwoosh!
A plasma burst slammed into the Hunter’s chest. The armor glowed red, then cracked.
Mei also moved as she struck the exposed joint and made the Hunter kneel...
As Kai and Mei stepped back, everyone else fired their guns...
Bang! Bang! Bang!
The Hunter staggered, its movements slowing.
Kai raised his hand one last time. This time, it wasn’t to cast another Spell but to use his fist!
Bam!
The Hunter’s head exploded with a punch containing all of his strength!
